You start on a carrier and the planes constantly spawn.
 
I figured I might as well buy this game too (PS3), or would you guys say it's too late to jump in for some trophy whoring and FPS fun? I'm not super-skilled or anything, you think I might have a good time with it?

Absolutely. The guns are easy to pick up and learn quickly. It's just great arcadey fun.
 
Third restart of the game, and I can choose Air Superiority. But what do I get then? Yeah, "Failed to connect to EA Online."

Edit: got in on my fifth attempt.
 
Well it's more terrible than expected. Coral Sea has always been little more than a diversion. Once you're done goofing around you'll return to the proper maps. But at least in BF1942 there was the carrier bombing and repairing aspect of it. Also there was a point to the AA guns on the carrier. And there was at least some stuff on the landmass. Big artillery-ish gun IIRC, and you could try to snipe fools.

The objective is king on the hill, stay within a circle and don't get killed. If you try to bail out you die automatically, if you try to take a lift on a wing you die automatically. So basically it's team deathmatch with planes.

As a silly jokester map they should at least provide enough planes for the entire team. Standing around like an idiot on the carrier isn't very fun. What is there? Six planes for each team?

I have to agree with pretty much everything said here. I think one or two more rounds and it's back to the normal maps for me. I'm just glad this won't be in the rotation, I would probably stop playing the game altogether.

Nope. I just boarded an enemy carrier and I kept destroying their planes as they spawned with their own AA guns. :lol
 
At least you get 10 points for killing whoever lands on your carrier. Waiting with three-four others for planes to spawn are mind-boggling stupid though. Just spawn me in a plane damnit (maybe with a longer respawn timer or a queue system).
 
What the hell, I just got three separate messages from random people saying "to anyone I've played with recently, come join my private game"... What is the point of playing a private game full of people who recently played in public games with you?
 
spent about 3 minutes of game time on a carrier with 5 other people fighting for planes while on the other carrier 2 planes were always available :lol So im guessing theres never 24 planes in the air from the way the spawn works.

If you're as good as you say you are, then clearly their team benefits by taking you out (by any means necessary).

You were right, thanks! This game is great fun, and eventhough I suck I managed to grab some points in the games I played, and some trophies too (even the dreaded "Best Squad" which I never thought I'd get).

I liked Midway, not a lot, but it was fun. You know...I miss the battleships. They were sort of stupid, but it was fun to just bomb the hell out of the airfield on wake, lol. I know it's a small game (just over 500mbs), but I wish it was more in line with 42. I liked having to bum rush the island when on American and with only the 1 carrier. It is a lot of fun, but it's not entire similar to 42
 
People never learn anything it seems. A single Scout can hold down the lighthouse for the entire match. just lay TNT on the flag and in the door. Hide/snipe in the middle or at the top, when it gets taken, blow it up, take it back. Rinse and repeat this almost forever.

People literally never learn. They will continue to come back and get blown up over and over. Or try to climb up and get chomped down repeatedly. It's sad.

I finished playing a couple of rounds just minutes ago, no problems whatsoever. Surprisingly smooth and all (all the games I played were practically full), no lag issues.

If someone wants EU PSN partners, add me (same nick as GAF handle). I'll be playing this game the coming days.
 
Well Coral sea sucks for multiple reasons

-No ground combat, Only planes and the occasional plane that comes by your carrier
-The spawning sucks, It seems to spawn 80% of the time on one of the carriers. So you have 5 waiting for planes, and the other one has no one but 2 spawned planes
-If someone gets in a plane and doesn't move....awesome grief
-You can't move the carriers nor sink them, so it's just a Deathmatch in the air. Pretty much decided on which team has the guy who can't fly.

Midway or Invasion of the Philippines would have been much better choices. Personally, I think they should give those 2 away for free.

Bring out a Western Front Expansion, and Eastern. Both with 4/5 maps each and 1 or 2 that will be free over time if you bought that expansion. So then we have all the maps ^_^

If they remake that map, they need to put in the flying fortress. That was always one of my favorites. It would be cool having a squad in the bomber, a pilot/bomber, and everyone else being gunmen to protect it from planes.
