The Battlefield 1943 (XBLA/PC/PSN) Official Thread

^^ I've had that on Wake Island, around the airbase. Major flashbacks to when I had my old GeForce video card overclocked a bit too much :)

I wish I could change class at a captured flag or something.

Also, I dislike it when an enemy uses the air raid bunker when the adjacent flag is not captured by their team! I wish it was only available to the team that captured the corresponding flag.

I haven't seen that, but I notice a lot of screen tearing sometimes. Haven't seen it so bad in a 360 game since PDZ.

That's happened to me on a couple of the maps, but it doesn't last long. I also lose the sound of the tank's machine gun and turrets once in awhile.

I so hate on games like this. I downloaded the demo because 1) I wanted to see what the fuss was about and 2) I wanted to test my online connection since I switched from wireless to wired (my router is not being detected wirelessly for some reason).

Demo was addicting. I will leave it at that. :|

:lol :lol :lol
The infantry combat of Bad Company in general was sub-par. Better Battlefield games, like 1942 and BF2, had tanks that were very dangerous in the hands of a skilled player. Every vehicle in 1943 is dangerous in the hands of a skilled player, and that's the way it should be.

So I just hopped in the train. I'm a BF virgin (well, I finished vietnam SP) and I'm confused about some stuff;

How does the radar works? Sometimes its clean and yet I get shot. You only see the enemies in front of you?

What's the use of the Squads and why nobody uses them?

I felt like I had infinite ammo but some have a cooldown, is that right?

I *think*I saw a wrench sign on a vehicle, can you repair them?

thanks :D

Enemies don't show up on your radar unless you or someone else on your team shot at them.

You can choose to respawn nearby your squad members and there are some points and postcards to get through certain squad actions. I think voice chat is tied to your squad, too.

Yes, that's right. You don't have to worry about ammo, but you have to strategically reload your weapons.

The infantry can.

Yeah, it's annoying when it happens. This game has some really odd glitches.

I feel you are very wrong on this. I get kills with tanks all the time, and I'm a pretty decent player in Bad Company, and I'd see people use them all the time.

If wins and points are important in this game, why are there so many Awards related to kills and so few related to wins or points?

I finally got to 1,000 points in a game, but I can't seem to get 20 kills. The best I can do is the 17-19 range and then the match ends...

Let the other team take Ridge on Guadacanal, and then spawn camp the ever-living piss out of them. I think 6 of my 7 "Leathernecks" are on Guadacanal.

I still haven't hit 1k points in a game. Even in games where I had 27 kills. What's your secret?

That's what I get. I'm thinking about just staying in Village the whole time on Guadacanal and get Defensive bonus points for each kill. I dunno. The game I had 27 kills I was still in the 800s.

Stay in a tank, cap a lot of flags...usually a good strategy for tons of points.

So it's official

this made me rebuy BF:BC

In all honesty I'll still play 1943 from time to time for shits n' giggles ....but there's just too many little nitpicky things that prevent it being my goto online shooter ala Killzone2.
I certainly don't see it as a successor to BF2 or even 1942 ...more of a spin-off

Come to think of it, I need to check out Battlefield Heroes...

Yeah its pretty easy to rack up kills on Guadacanal. I hit 1000k sometime last week (havent played 1943 all weekend, though), the most kills i've had in one match was 35, and it was indeed on Guadacanal.

Just wondering how well everyone else is doing with the planes. I have been able to break the 20 kill mark a few times just flying and went a round 23-0 on iwo jima.

I find the AA in the game overpowered. Its so easy to take down a plane with AA. Also I find the bombs a bit annoying. They destroy anything they directly hit but if you slightly miss a jeep which has full health it wont be destroyed which is pretty annoying. Otherwise strafing runs for infantry and bombs for tanks.

Compared to BF1942 the planes are weaksauce. Those bombs were the end all be all and the guns even seemed a bit stronger. Not to mention those planes where more agile.

just to clarify, you dont actually have to shoot at them, you just have to get them in your crosshairs to get them to show up on the radar (and put a triangle on their heads).

Personally, I don't think it's that the AA is overpowered, it's that the planes don't have enough health. From my experience in flying a plane, it's really easy to get killed (compared to killing other airplanes for me:lol ). When I'm in an AA turret, I don't think it's that easy to take down a plane. I've only done it once or twice.

I think that they just are able to destroy planes to quickly. I can jump in an AA turret as a plane passes overhead and take it down in 3 shots. The time is takes is just to fast as a pilot has no time to even try to escape in some situations.

Agreed...I think the damage that AA guns do to planes should be decreased (a bit) and they should overheat faster.

DICE definitely learned there lesson compared to BF1942 and especially BF2 where the planes were ridiculously overpowered and rendered tanks/apc essentially useless.

My brother bought this game on PSN, and I was watching him play for a while and I was slowly being sucked in, planning which bases to take next and little strategies on the fly. So I snuck a go myself, despite not being a fan of online games, especially not ruthless ones like FPS. But I'm pretty hooked at the moment, I'll admit matches tend to degenerate into hopping from one captured base to the next and back again but its a laugh even if I barely score any hits.

Just don't mention the planes, I can barely get off the ground without crashing...

And how many stages are there, I've only been on Wake Island (my fave), Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. I heard there was a fourth stage.

I've never been in that position before, so I can't say. Maybe I just suck with taking down planes.

Well for me planes are free kills. As soon as I spot a plane nearby, I jump on the closest AA gun and take it down before it even gets to react.

Planes might not need more health, but they do need their bombs tweeked. The radius damage needs to be increased.

Also AA guns when destroyed should stay destroyed until an enginer repairs it.

Well the AA guns have a range and you also have to aim ahead based on distance to target like any other weapon. I think the problem is in BF2 you at least heard a lock on first before shit happened and in bf1942 the guns where not as powerful so you could react while in this game there can be instances where there is no time to react as you are dead as fast as the AA gun can firs 3 shots.

The best way to take down a plane with AA is to not fire until they are relatively close because at that point they have no help of escaping at all. Spamming the AA will just get you killed as a good pilot will dive bomb you or take you out from below your angle of fire if you are on a hill as on iwo jima.

EDIT: The only time I am unhappy with bombs is against jeeps. Otherwise I understand they have been nerfed for obvious reasons.

I like them in Air Superiority. I like that it's really easy to wreak havoc on an enemy carrier, until they put a guy on the AA gun. It turns the tables quickly, and stops the action centering on one small part of the map. Back to the middle, capture the flag, rinse and repeat.

Got my highest kill count yet - 17.

Not that great but I've only got about 8 hours of playing under my belt. I got about 10 of them in a tank - I really CANNOT believe they just sit around idle so much. People go for the planes ASAP but tanks are so much more useful.

Also, I always, always, always seem to get stuck on crap teams. I played 5 games earlier and lost them all. It's usually me and another dude with 400-500 points at the end - mostly from capturing flags - while everyone else runs around on foot and gets mowed down. Seems like a lot of people just want to fly the planes and have no idea what to do with them. Or just try to run around and kill people - again, usually on foot.

The game also seems to enjoy placing me on teams of <10, versus a full squad of 12.

Without a co-axial machine gun, tanks were nowhere near as deadly in BC as they were in previous Battlefield games.

Did you ever play Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2, or especially the Desert Combat mod for BF1942?

Experienced tank players in Battlefield 2 and Desert Combat would have over 100 kills in a game and maybe 2 deaths. If you were good with them, you could kill infantry at a range way beyond their anti tank weaponry range with the co axial guns, and the main gun could take out any other vehicles, including attack helicopters and ground attack fixed wing aircraft.

Yeah, they could be used well in Bad Company, but they were still underpowered for the fact that they were tanks. Tanks without a co-axial machine gun for the driver are a joke. Hell, the LAV-25s and Bradleys in Battlefield 2 were more dangerous than the main battle tanks in Bad Company.

Historically, whenever a military has tried to field a tank, or a tank destroyer, without a coaxial gun, the inevitable result is that it gets blown up easily by infantry in the battlefield because they can just run up and plant explosives on the thing.

But then again, Bad Company was just weird all around. I'm glad DICE has come about since then. COD4's influence probably helped a lot.

God. My stats are so one-sided towards planes. For some reason my most recent stats on the website are fucked but the last time I grabbed a screen was two days ago:

25s4npx.jpg

and that's just with the Zero :lol

I've added another 50-60 kills since then. My team basically has three dudes on the ground spotting targets and having me do bombing runs. I've killed so many tanks over the last week with bombs... it's ridiculous. I've gotten to rank 31 with 95% plane points only.

Hour or two ago I had an 800 point game on Iwo Jima. I didn't step a single foot on the island the entire time.

I am pretty much a scout exclusively these days, usually making my camp near a AA gun. I love getting the attention of a far-ish off plane, aggroing them enough to head over my way and to take them down. I find there aren't really that many pilots good enough to take out a single AA gun on their first pass.

Most problems I've had with using AA guns come from snipers, so I keep a good watch on not only my base's color, but the nearby ones as well.

Also, running up to an enemy tank to plant some C4 and run for cover / blow the c4 in time and not getting shot down is exceptionally thrilling.

Defend more and let the "crap" players capture the flags.
I've been playing alone the last 4 or 5 times I've been on and in the last 30 games my team may have lost 5 times using ths strategy. That's pretty good for not jumping in a squad.
Tried this strategy out after losing 40 of my first 65 matches.
Nothing like seeing a boat of 2 or 3 enemies coming to what they think is a deserted flag.:lol

the only comparison i was discussing was between 43 and BC.

My roommate just head shot a guy that was on the machine gun of a jeep doing full speed, from halfway across Wake Island.

I wish......I so fucking wish it was recorded.

We literally saw it for a half second in the scope before it passed behind some trees - he aimed about a full screen in front of it and fired blindly - then the kill confirmation popped up. Headshot!

He ran out of the room screaming and I was on the floor laughing.

He's got 500+ hours of COD4 played and claims it's the best thing he's ever done in a FPS - it's certainly the best I've ever seen in person. Speechless.

Yeah i was coming here to see if anyone knew what was up. I keep getting no games found as well. Are the servers down while being serviced.

Any of you guys tried the MG mounted on the landing craft or in bunkers? It's hilariously good, it will kill anything in the game that is not a tank in 3-5 seconds.

I jumped on it the first time and killed an enemy landing craft, an enemy aircraft , an enemy jeep, and 5 enemy infantry. People never see the guy on the landing craft machine gun.

Yup, one of my favourite things to do when all the flags are captured. Kill everyone who is in the landing craft, man the gun, and shoot all the other landing craft that are trying to get to shore :lol

yeah, those guns are awesome. sometimes at the start of a game on wake island, the squad i'm in will take a craft and cut across towards the enemy creafts abd gun them down.

Yeah I wish this game had a record feature or I had the dough to upgrade my computer to have the ability to record.
On Wake Island last night I was near one tip of the horseshoe. I notice one of my teamates swimming out towards the enemy carrier(interesting). A boat comes along and the driver switches to gunner and kills the guy in the water. Now the boat is sitting still so I snipe the former driver and the guy next to him in the other gun. The guy sitting on the bow jumps into the drivers seat where I snipe him also. The boat never gets to shore.:lol
I'm not even a great sniper but because the boat wasn't moving and it all seemed to happen in slo-mo it was easy pickins.:D
