BF43 sucked up all my gaming time this weekend. The game is pretty genius in every way.

I have one huge complaint, though:

WTF at the indestructible "road signs" all over the place? Nothing chafes me more than having my tank grind to halt because I failed to notice a rake thin piece of wood sticking out of the ground.

Fix this shit, DICE.

I just found out how awesome this game is yesterday, so I bought it today and I'm hooked. If anyone wants to play my gt is Isosceles Lock.

There is three maps, dude. You can't even play more than Wake Island on the demo. The game is a FPS, on a console. As such the default controls are RT/R2/R1=FIRE GUN. LT/L2/L1 = CoD4 "look down sights."

Did you never play a console FPS before? Because the controls are pretty "pick-up-and-play" IMO. Yeah, flying the plane is the main barrier for the controls (as is the LT/L2/L1 = Gas for the tank/jeep), but if you spent 30 mins flying nothing but the plane (instead of actually... trying the ground work/playing the game) then you can't really blame anyone other than yourself for playing that way.

Also wasn't the demo extended to 60 mins/1 hour, I remember the ticker talking about an extra 30 mins for people.

Being a sniper is real fun on Guadacanal. I just love moving from hill to hill and picking off the other team's Air raid camper.

A sniper that can lead shots (instead of just killing other still snipers as a "counter-snipe") can feel damn good if he kills a dude that is trying to kill the other person on his team capping that enemies base. :lol

Infantry is definitely my favourite, the SMG is deadly at close range, the rocket launcher makes short work of tanks, and if you want to tank camp then the wrench makes you practically invincible.

Spawn Camp Grenade Spam, Feels Good Man:lol It's kinda funny actually. Even though I can't spam grenades at Spawning areas like I was able to do in BC or 1943 by finding an ammo crate and just staying there. I think made it much worse in this game since I can now do it from anywhere instead of set locations. :lol

Almost broke 50kills today on Hilly Map.

Also, there is no better rush in 1943 than running up to an enemy tank, planting c4, and running back and hitting the plunger before the tank fucks you up.
 
I love this game but I'm sick of getting stuck on teams with people who have no interest in capping bases. :lol

Sniping is pretty sweet but I love being an AA gunner. I had 11 kills one round just doing that. :D

I'm experiencing this too, the rumble is broken IMMO. The controller doesn't vibrate when you are being hit but only when the player dies. This is very apparent in planes, there is very little feedback that you're being shot by another plane.


EDIT: The sound is partially broken too in the same manner
 
I like to think im a pretty good pilot now. Consistently having a 4:1 kill death ratio of the last 10 games. I said I was going to learn to fly and while I probably started out with a 1:4 k/d ratio, the practice has payed off. I took out 3 planes in the air last night that were all trying to take me down.
 
Is there something wrong with my headset or does no one ever seem to talk in this game? I would've thought this would be the perfect game for some headset teamwork.

Not my experience....perhaps you just picked an hour when everyone was playing Fat Princess...$30 for these two games = best damned gaming investment I ever made.

PS3 version's voice chat breaks often. But even when it is working, very few people talk.

Depends on where you live. Americans use it more often then europeans, because they usually don't have language barriers.
 
A few beefs with this game.

1. No grenades for the sniper.
2. The sniper is the only class with a pistol and considering the reload length the other classes really need a pistol.
3. Shoot less the 5 shots with the snipe and attempt a reload and the animation shows you reloading all 5 bullets making it nonsensical and a unnecessary time waster.
4. TNT must be real heavy because the sniper can't throw it more then 6 feet at any given time. A little more distance on the TNT toss would've been nice.
5. Spawn camping is to be expected considering how the game is set up but considering so many flags sit out in the open and you always spawn next to the flag it makes the game far more frustrating then it should be, especially when there's a tank camped in the near distance - and there always seems to be. Personal stats can really take a beating this way too and it's not the fault of the player. Spawn points really need to be thought out a little more.

That's it, basically. For 15 bucks it's a great game and if my first 3 complaints were to be addressed, I could more then live with the other 2.

Complaints 1-4 were the same way in Bad Company. The Recon class (the sniper class) was the only kit that had a pistol as a secondary weapon, and didn't carry any grenades as well. Same with the TNT, in Bad Company the Specialist class could only throw their C4 a few feet. I would imagine this is to discourage players from trying to use them as grenades.

It might just be because I've played Bad Company so much, but none of these really bother me. DICE has made some pretty smart balancing decisions between the classes (such as not allowing players to fully aim down the iron-sights on sub-machine guns so people don't try and use them as long-range weapons), none of them feel particularly under/overpowered to me.

Although I do agree that reloading five rounds every time regardless of how many shots you've actually taken is annoying, I've just gotten used to it by now.
 
Thanks to me, the team I was on just did a perfect sweep of Wake Island. I always drive the boat and almost always cross cut the island and go for the base that they will likely hit first. Sure enough, they took their first base and then we rolled in behind, stole it and lit their backs up.

After that we had all the bases and all they could do was drive boats and planes at us. For whatever stupid reason their boat drivers meat grindered into the same damn positions over and over again and every time they were sliced to ribbons. It was beautiful.


BTW Iwo Jima... WTF!?! The mountain is not the be all and end all. The back end with the airstrip is just as important and is always stupidly ignored by the team I'm on. The enemy will take the mountain and then the meat grinder goes into effect and sure enough they will come down and start taking everything else that isn't nailed down. Get a base and hold the damn thing, you don't need the mountain! We keep getting killed 2:1 or worse when the team runs up that damn hill to their death. If you want the hill, at least go around the back in a boat.

I don't think many people use mics for this. Even when I'm in a squad no one seems to talk.

I love trying to take the montain. Granted if you spend to long on it you could cost yourself the match. It's just the challenge I suppose.

I usually try to hold a base but the problem is when I dedicate myself to a base my team starts losing so I have to constantly keep moving to help them. This isn't the case in all the games I play but it is the majority.

I was the same, but for me, carrying an SMG is critical if I'm driving a vehicle. And I've started driving a lot more tanks when possible. The only map I can't use an SMG is Iwo-Jima; it's too open midfield and close to the mountain and I seldom defend solely the bunker and airfield.

When used correctly, it is. If you take it, and just keep a group of like three guys, it's perfect. From there you have the high ground to shoot down into the Fishing Village and the Lighthouse. So your team should hold those two, and you should be able to defend it pretty well with just the guys at Suribachi alone. Not to mention you have anti-air support from there as well. Seriously, if 2-3 guys hold Suribachi and use it to fend off enemies from the Fishing Village and Lighthouse, the rest of your team should be able to hold 3 bases and win the game pretty easily.

Haven't played 1943 in about a week. Probably going to get some games in tomorrow.

Ehh, I don't agree with that. Airfield is probably more important. It is extremely close to the bunker, so that flag is pretty much yours.

But, it also comes with a plane, 2 tanks, 2 jeeps, anti-air, AND an air raid. The 2 tanks alone is massive. The air raid will wipe out anyone at Suribachi anyways.

You can hold the Airfield and Bunker all day, and you still lose. A small team can hold Suribachi and defend the Fishing Village and Lighthouse easily, while the rest of the team pressures and contains the other team at the Bunkers and Airfield sticking you with 2 bases while they easily hold 3. Wiping out the opposing forces at Suribachi won't do much good unless you have people there to take it. And considering your closest spawn is all the way over at the Bunkers, timing it right isn't all that likely.
 
Grabbed the trial on PS3 a few days ago and gave it a blast. Really enjoyed it, loved the differences in a capture point with its buildings intact compared to the end of a battle where everything is leveled. Didn't fiddle with my favoured BF1942 class of Sniper as I didn't really see the need to try on a gamepad.

Also are tanks overpowered or was it just me? Basically took all of Wake Island invading in a single tank. Now that walls can be demolished its probably harder for infantry to hide in the event of a tank rolling in, and the secondary machine gun literally mows them down.

Suribachi isn't THAT close to the light house. Maybe closer, but I could probably travel from bunker to light house quickly.

Plus, like I said, airfield has the tech. Two tanks roll in on light house, travelling down the airfield and they'll be there in no time and all the snipers in the world from Suribachi aint gonna do anything to it.

Yeah, and i'm perfectly content to let a few guys keep Suribachi while I take the rest of the island with my team. :)

Geographically no, but Snipers and skilled Riflemen can shoot into the Lighthouse and the HMGs can also tear up people running around the Lighthouse. Anyone with good aim can keep enemies out of the Lighthouse from Suribachi.

how will those guns stop a tank?

i've seen people try and pull this off lots of times and what often happens is two tanks and some other people from the airfield roll in, killing whatever enemies were advancing towards the bunker, one tank takes the lighthouse and takes out any stragglers, then the other tank either rolls onto the beach or camps on the hill overlooking the beach and then lays waste to it, then the other tank arrives and starts shooting up at anyone on suribachi crazy enough to peek out.

I'd really love to be on a team that actually played like this.

The best I can get is maybe a squad of 3 working together, and one of those guys is my roommate playing in the other room :lol We can usually coordinate attacks pretty well together, but if I'm capturing/defending a flag with some random people there's never any sort of coordination or plan whatsoever.
 
Played some 43 this morning after not playing for about a week. Won both games, and got about 20 kills in each. Haven't rusted a bit. God I love this game.
