The Battlefield 1943 (XBLA/PC/PSN) Official Thread

Am I crazy or was it 560 points instead of 600? Either way, picked it up earlier and it is pretty damn fun. Reminds me quite a bit of 1942 for the PC, but I guess that was their intention. Definitely worth the points.

Hadn't played Battlefield in a long time, but that was pretty fun. I did crappy on foot, but I was decent (for consoles) in a plane.

Got this game as it was on sale. Had a bunch of fun play the maps I did, but I haven't played a console shooter in a long, long time. Any general hints/tips?

I still play the hell out of this. Only shooter I have ever been any good at. Too bad they are dumping a ton into BC2 and not adding a few more maps to this, I really don't want anything more complicated.

Airstrikes are awesome, I get so happy when I get into that little bunker. Feels good, man.

Is even better seeing someone running furiously to a bunker and then make him eat a rifle nade on the head just before he enters....

Oi. Having that dreaded "Game is unavailable blah blah blah" error. Are there any fixes, or is this EA's problem?

I think it's EA's problem. I used to be able to connect to BC1 online just fine, but now I get that error there. :/

Started playing it again for the first time since August last year, goddamn this game's fun. Maybe it's me getting used to a semiauto gun in MW2 but I don't remember kicking this much ass in 1943 back when it came out :lol

Then again those people who got good at it have probably moved to other shooters permanently

The party system is still a but dodgy in the PS3 version :( More so than the BFBC2 beta actually :lol

Shame but the game is still damn fun.

Thanks to the BFBC2 Beta, I warmed back up to the franchise and started giving 1943 some love again.
At this point, my only one big complaint I'll always hold against it, is the small player count. It always feels like wastelands in matches, even if they're full =/

Now don't get me wrong, I love love smaller scale MP. Always preferred it over clusterfuck experiences like Resistance2 or 20+ player KZ2. But with Battlefield, it was always a necessity unless the map scaled accordingly ala BF2.

The competition in this game is now non-existent. I played again last night for the first time since about September and was absolutely dominating.

I like finding new ways to enjoy this game.

For example, every time I'm on the Japanese side I whip out my sword and proceed to run around islands just trying to cut people down. LOL moments galore :lol

Yeah, maybe is the wave of new people getting this...
I got this Thursday, because of the sale (560 MS Points)..completely ignoring everything about the game, aside pics here and there ("wtf? this game is an online multiplayer game only?"..was my first reaction.. :p )..no training, directly into a match..

And ended being the highest scoring player in my team, and the second overall (out of like 16 players)... :lol ..mostly shotting at random, grabbing a few flags (which many were just ignoring in favor of driving tanks)..and runnign around with a sword..

But really liked it..looks nice, it's fun, fast... and for like $6.. :)

I just get so sick of seeing dudes run off into the hills by themselves and then glancing over two feet to see a perfectly good jeep sitting there (>__<)

I'm trying to enjoy this game, but it seems if I try to play late at night or in the morning I'm matchmade into extremely laggy servers. I guess the player population is getting pretty low or something. :/

i played several times this week on both consoles and didn't see any lag...

Fancy seeing you here... yeah I played a few matches today trying to finish off the 100 match achievement - I guess I stopped a little short, and it was unplayable on Air Superiority. Each time I had just gotten off an extended stretch on MW2, so I'm positive it's not me. I looked on the EA UK forums and I guess Sweden and the West coast USA are seeing problems according to some folks... I tweeted GVD and the official 1943 peeps but no response :(

I've had a little trouble getting into full matches lately on PS3. The player population has taken a hit. Shame this game never got atleast one map pack.

In other news my left analog stick has now become almost unplayable. It's sunk deep into the controller shell and sometimes falls to either side. It makes sprinting so damn hard in this game since I have to pull the analog stick up with my fingers then push it down. :lol

More people need to play 1943. I wonder how low the player count will get once Bad Company 2 launches?

I was going to double dip, but don't have enough party members to get on PS3.

On 360 we can't even log in atm -_-

I got much better and I mostly just dick around now. It's extremely rare that I get shot down by another plane. I can blow up tanks and stuff pretty regularly with the plane now. Owning points is fun.

2 neat shots that stick out in my mind.
Sometime I like hanging around a flak cannon, but don't use it until all the pilots are accustomed to overflying it. Then when they're ready open up. I defended Mt. Suribachi for a bit, then hit the flak cannon and downed all 3 enemy fighters in quick succession.

I've shot down a fighter with my rifle grenade.

lots of other stuff

but not being able to login is making me wary of buying BFBC2
I've had almost zero problems with lag, but being able to join a game (and now login) is a chore

*I think the current player/map count is just about perfect. I'm always encountering enemies, but there is enough room to maneuver. Holding a point against an enemy squad is extremely fun.

Is this down for anyone else on Live?
It's down for me on PS3. I wanted to jump into a game last night, and a message popped up saying "not available". It's been like that for me for a while because I tried to jump into a match just before the BC2 beta and it was the same thing. Anybody have an idea what's going on?

Competition was a little better last night. I think all the old vets must have got word that people are playing again (due to the sale).

My favorite thing to do now is just sit on the carrier on Iwo Jima in an AA gun and snipe the island. I can usually get 10-12 kills from taking down planes and countersniping. There's nothing more satisfying than killing someone whose head is about 4 pixels in diameter.

The EA servers were down all day for us yesterday. (BF 1943/Dragon Age/ Conquest/etcetc)

Now the servers are full. I'll try and join with a party later. That normally works a little more reliably. If the servers weren't such crap I'd have already pre-ordered BFBC2.

:lol
I thought I was the only one. I mostly do it just because I'm lazy. On Leyte Gulf I've taken down the entire bomber formation from the carrier a couple of times. Another lazy activity is to park a boat near one of the tips. A lot of hot shot pilots will try to blow you up, but the MG is deadly to fighters. I did it at first because I wanted the stamp. Now I do it occasionally when I'm board.

When an entire party is parked there with a couple of boats the results can be rather comical. It gets even better when we don't have any deployment points and the enemy tanks roll in.

I'm currently trying to master the 'low pass anti-aa run' from the airplane. I can hit it correctly about 33% of the time, but that needs to be higher. I've known some pilots on that are awesome at it.

I haven't been able to play for almost 3 days. I can't get into a game. I'm very unhappy about it. The only official word I've read was something about lag issues. I can't even connect to a game to see if it lags.

Many people still playing this here? I've started playing again recently due to my lack of time and the games wonderful pick up and play nature. Currently #289 on the leaderboards, highest rank was in the #150's a few months ago.

DLC coming:
http://www.oxm.co.uk/article.php?id=16842 / http://planetbattlefield.gamespy.com/fullstory.php?id=161504

Karl-Magnus Troedsson, Executive Producer for the Battlefield series, has told OXM that premium DLC for Battlefield 1943 is in the works.

Advertisement:
We asked Troedsson about the possibility of a sequel to last year's Xbox Live Arcade hit, Battlefield 1943.

"We will see more of those in the future? We'll see," he replies. "As a franchise, we're going to focus on the near future but that doesn't exclude that we can do more of these smaller products in the near future.

"However, there's one important piece to this puzzle, and that's that we need to take care of our products post-launch. We haven't released any premium DLC for 1943, for instance, which feels like a natural step to take."

Check back tomorrow for the full interview!

Wow, in this case better late than never is not exactly true, at least for me. By the time they come out with this DLC I will already be playing BC2. I stopped playing shortly after cracking into the top #1k and before I got my "truly elite" stamp, so I pretty much spent as much time with it as I ever will. The server issues will come up again when BC2 rolls out as well, I remember another friend who was a big BC fan raging up and down the party chat when '43 dropped because they seemed to redirect a lot of their resources to the new game, even though it was an arcade title.

Love this game, just got back into it after a long time off (months).

It's fun getting into grudge matches over certain flags with the same people over and over.

I'm surprised they're working on DLC, to be honest.

I thought that at this stage they were just hoping people would migrate over to Bad Company 2.

Reading that blurb, I'm not so sure that they are. Sounded to me like he was saying they dropped the ball a little and they're going to do better with BFBC2. I hope I'm wrong though because Id buy a couple of new 1943 maps.

IF this game had Airplane controls like Warhawk, I'd be on this about 24/7. Otherwise. *thumbs down*

Warhawk->Pro flight
1943->Pro flight by default.

Not exactly the same thing, but nearly. I think you have to invert controls in Warhawk for flight to match 1943

And they want us to buy it. :| BC2 better be getting free maps in a patch like PS3 BC1, otherwise DICE is going to feel my MW2 hate coming onto them quickly. (Don't piss away your goodwill, basically)

So they decided after all to make some DLC for this... bit late imo.
I think when they realized that they would be too late to get the DLC out near launch they waited until Battlefield hype was rising again due to Bad Company 2.

It's the only reason I can see why it took this long.

With BF BC2 out in about a month they better get these maps out quick. I think they missed the real window for paid DLC. Some free DLC would be nice however.

I'm not surprised they're working on DLC, it sold great and it's the perfect platform for DLC - what surprises me is they're so god damn late with it.

They probably never expected it to make so much money. I doubt if EA has seen a hit this large vs. the amount of money spent against it in the last few years in the console space.

This. I played the hell out of BF1943 for weeks after it came out. Hopefully its free DLC. If not, I probably won't redownload BF1943.

Just downloaded this after criticizing EA for having a timed demo, not just a per session type of thing.

I'm not too bad either, it must be the time I spent with the BC2 Beta or something. Anyone here still play?

I play quite a bit. PM me for Gamertag if you want to play sometime.

Also, holy shit holy shit holy shit at the news of DLC. If this game had been fleshed out a bit more, it could have been one of the best online FPSers ever. It's incredibly balanced.

Any word on what the DLC will consist of?

Screw DLC at this point. Really late, and BC2 is around the corner. Make BF: Vietnam.

Not after I just spent 15 duckies on this. I know i'm LTTP and I know that there was a deal not long ago but dammit I want to play this game and DLC would be awesome.

I've played about 10-12 games and i still feel like I am in the demo. I have literally only played Wake Island and Iwo Jima.

Last I heard from GVD and the 1943 twitter team, they were still working out kinks in the servers. Theres been so much lag on the west coast US that they had to post a custom hashtag to get replies to localize the problems.
