If you want to see something really crazy if you cut part of the block out in paint and move it across the screen it slowly fades into its proper colour as it moves out of the shadow.
I think it's supposed to be a window.

Hold out a finger in front of your face and focus on it, now keep it there but focus on something on the wall behind your finger. See how you get "double vision" with 2 fingers? Thats what you need to do to see the 3D image in stereograms.
I prefer this example of the same illusion. The A and B squares are the same color.

Yeah, can't do the cross-eyed thing or similar. They just don't work for me.

Yeah I know but I can't pretend that theres something behind the screen and focus on something that isn't there. It just doesn't work for me. And also my eyes are blurred out the entire time so I don't have any reference to when the images are split like that.
For the one with the pink balls, you need to stare at the dot until you see a green ball going around that's not actually there, pretty cool
Anyway, for this image, that's pretty neat, it's completely in color!

You'll get it eventually. Took me hours the first time, but after you do it once it just clicks. You need to relax your eyes to do it.

I see it, that's awesome. Well I see it in the top half anyway, am I supposed to see something in the bottom half?
Look through the screen, focussing at a point somewhere behind it. It *is* relaxing your eyes, but until you've done it a few times, it's hard to really associate it as such!
The bottom half is the depth data for the next stereogram that would be generated. If you ran that perl script, the resulting output would be a stereogram that would look like a # and a ! raised up, plus would also be a valid perl script to generate a stereogram from the next data set.
This one's good.
I was fucking finally able to get one of these to work the right way. After decades of never getting these to work. It's infinitely better than the cross eye technique where the image is inverted.
I still dont understand if it's supposed to be one big image I'm looking for, or a set pattern of a small image over and over.
Can you focus and unfocus your eyes?
Like, if you're looking at something up close, can you unfocus your eyes so you're seeing it double?

Ok, click on the link in that post. Pause it when it shows the two dots. Stare off into the background without focusing on anything until the two dots become 3.

The trick is to start close and slowly back away.
Before I figured it out I swore I saw the picture in one.
Turns out I'd just gone crazy and my brain convinced me I saw the dolphin to get me to stop.

I don't really get how looking through your screen counts as relaxing your eyes but whatever. It just stresses my eyes out. I just can't do it and I've tried for hours and hours multiple times before (probably at least 5 hours, maybe 10 hours total from all the times I've tried) but all I see is a blurry mess. I think I've managed to 'look through the screen' (or at least I think I have) several times but its still just a blurry mess and i can't put anything into focus and I don't know if the magic image is alinged right or not since its so blurry. The only real advice people can give me is what you just said, and to wait until it 'clicks' but it just doesn't click for me. Whatever, I'll just go my entire life without seeing them. No biggie lol.
Yes, but that doesn't relax my eyes. It stresses them out.
