The best sports anthem/theme ever made?

I really liked the old Showtime boxing theme from the 90s. It was either Showtime or HBO but I'm pretty sure it was Showtime. Really great boxing theme even if it wasn't aggressive. Lots of horns which sounded great but there wa sa sax in there somewhere that is typical of it's time.

I just can't find it anywhere.

I personally enjoy the CL theme, but John Tesh is your lord and master.

The Alpha and the Omega.

Roundball Rock. Forever.

You may, if you're a fan of prog-rock from the 80s, know this song as "Sirius," which was a long intro for a medium-sized hit called "Eye in the Sky" by the Alan Parsons Project.

But for the 6-time world champion Chicago Bulls? This was your anthem. This meant asswhippings were about to occur.

This meant winning.

It always amazed me how such a kick ass intro like Sirius led into such a milquetoast song like Eye in the Sky.

Expanding on my original post. For the major four in the United States it goes,

NBA - NBA on NBC Theme http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZKX-cf_p90

NFL - NFL on FOX http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbU4fPYRvcY (I personally think the new NFL on NBC theme is better, but it certainly isn't more recognizable http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Y79g6cywsw)

NHL - National Hockey Night on ESPN http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BuSLqUD65I

MLB - MLB on FOX (Fuck FOX. They abandoned it) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6__Xr3ouAI (ESPN Sunday Night Baseball theme is the more recognizable one currently http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GdeU5u-Ngo)

Epic post I love that old ESPN NHL theme heard it so much on the NHL 98 game I played forever. But, I think the NFL on Fox gets my vote. So inspiring.

The NBA on NBC theme is a lightning rod of nostalgia for me. Every time I hear it I think of those classic Lakers/Kings WCF.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
Nothing beats NBA on NBC. Nothing.

Thread should have ended with the OP because nothing beats the Champions League anthem... most of this other stuff is just loud, obnoxious, and embarrassing.

That man should revoke his citizenship for posting the inferior theme.

The TSN one is indeed a travesy in my opinion compared to the classic CBC version.

The NFL themes are all great in my opinion, but NBA on NBC always wins this, no contest.

Sorry other sports, (real) football wins this one!

If this shit doesn't raise the hair on the back of your neck then you are already dead

You're right, OP. However, I don't find it strange that most of the people here prefer something based on the other football, or basketball. But the NBA on NBC theme, really? Almost all the themes posted here are better, whats the appeal?

It's catchy as hell, captures the excitement and passion of the sport, and it's strongly associated with the Jordan era of the NBA, giving it a strong nostalgic appeal.

Most sports themes are just build-ups to, or variations on a main theme. Roundball Rock is a complete song.

Since this is the right thread to ask.. can anyone find the 1996 atlanta olympics theme? I'm sure it had Dixie as part of the theme..

I retract my previous statement.

The greatest sporting anthem of ALL TIME is Match of the Day:

real football, real music, real fuck yeah. Far, far more excitement and action in there than in that NBA rubbish! Nothing beats the excitement of sitting down and waiting to see the highlights of West Brom's latest show of force. Nothing beats the sheer disappointment and agony that settles in soon afterwards either.
