The Bionic Commando Rearmed Official Thread of SUPPPAHHHH JOE!

Wow this game is fucking awesome. Best downloadable game of the generation so far for me. I am glad I tried buying it from the HK store.

never heard of gamersgate.com, but the PC version is there for $15.
I've bought games from that site before, they're okay. I actually like it better than steam.

... although the European versions costs 15 euro there. Why does the entire game industry feel okay with specifically raping Europeans?

Am stuck on level 04. I made it to the computer and hacked it, and then proceeded to platform up and to the right of the door. I can scale tiny platforms almost to the top, but I can't make it any further. Any help would be appreciated

There's slowdown occasionally, especially when there are tons of enemies, 2 players, and an explosion or two from grenades. Nothing really serious or annoying. Btw, am I wrong about the game being 30fps?
Sounds about right. You were wrong about the 30 fps, though. The game is most definitely 60 fps (thankfully).

why is the shooting button red on 360? why not x (blue) like every other game like this? very confusing I kept pressing the wrong button and couldnt get into the game at all.

Because it's just like on the NES controller with A and B.

Is the JPN PSN version in English or all of the text in Japanese?
It seems to play in whatever language your PS3 is set to, though the title screen and XMB icon is different (I didn't realize the JPN version of the game is called "Bionic Commando: Master-D Fukkatsu Keikaku (Revival Plan)" till downloading this demo).

in game text is in english, poor japanese people
The game runs in a variety of languages depending on your XMB settings.

Yay! In that case I may as well download the JPN PSN version since the US version is still not out yet.

Good to know that the language is determined by XMB just like the Asian version of SIREN. As for the title, I figure that's the title that they'll use in Japan after I saw the anime trailer.

I changed to control layout C, which has shooting on X, arm on A, and grenades on B.

That's another thing I'm wondering about. The loading times on 360 are twice as long as the PS3 version for some reason. On 360, the demo level requires ~14 seconds to load while the PS3 demo requires ~7 seconds. The 360 also has a lengthy ~35 second startup load that isn't present at all on PS3.

I'm thinking it's the result of extra compression needed to fit the game on XBLA.

Maybe that's it. It's quite frustrating though. Especially when you load the game, go to the map, load a level, then realise you can't play the level till you get a new item. The loading times and V-Sync issues are the two lingering things holding this back for me.

So the surprise is an additional challenge room. Good times.
Heh, in all honesty, the big surprise for me is the fact that the PSN version uses v-sync and loads twice as fast as the XBLA version. :D That's a pretty sweet deal (and pretty shocking as well). Heck, the fact that it is 60 fps is also a huge surprise.

I knew the game would rock, but I didn't expect it to be as technically sound as it is.

I am pretty surprised at that. I'm also curious about the PC version for that reason. Since the 360 architecture is very similar, I would think it wouldn't be that different.

That said, I'm stoked the PSN version is so awesome because I haven't got a 360 yet. :D

Yeah, the PSN version is tempting me to double dip... controller feels so much better!

Impressions from the PC version...

4:3, 5:4, 16:9 and 16:10 aspect ratios are supported.

Game doesn't seem to be demanding at all, so as long as you don't have an ancient computer it should run smooth all the time with insanely fast loading times (I counted and the longest loading time I got was one and half second). There were no settings for AA or vsync ingame, but I'm assuming you can easily force that on graphics driver settings.

Keyboard and any gamepad is supported.

The only feature missing from console versions are online high score lists.

If there's one advantage the PC version has, I'd say it's splitscreen coop. On the console versions the framerate will always take a big hit once you go splitscreen, but on the PC you won't get the problem as long as your computer is good enough. Well, another big advantage is that you can use basically any controller you want.

Arg. Has anyone gotten the plasma rifle upgrade yet? That's the only one I need.

The plasma rifle upgrade was in area 06. When you get to the section with all the barrel droids, drop off the far right of the bottom level and immediately grapple left. You'll need to position yourself so that you're on the second or third tile, so you may need to drop and re-grapple until you're in the right spot. Then do a blind drop. You'll land on a small platform with a door leading to the plasma rifle upgrade.

Is there a PC demo available?

Played the demo on both platforms last night: You really can't go wrong with either. BC is still as fun as hell, and once you get used to the swinging mechanics and timing it's a total blast to play.

Controls - Went in and changed the options to type "c" on both. This just seemed to be the best one, probably should have been the default.

Regardless, as a BC veteran I had no problems whatsoever with the controls on either version. They are fine and as long as you aren't trying to hold diagonal to shoot the arm that way (a rookie mistake) then I don't see how the controller choice is anything but preference. My timing seemed slightly better on the 360 but this could be due to any number or factors besides the controllers themselves.

Graphics - Got to give this one to the PS3. Just seemed a little bit sharper/crisper with slightly more vivid colors. To be fair, my PS3 is hooked up via HDMI and my 360 via component. No idea if that makes the difference. But really they are super close. Don't have the full version yet so I can't comment on Vsync issues.

Sound - Have both systems hooked up via TOSLINK and could not tell a difference using my surround setup. The PS3's mix seems to have the music slightly louder but I did not notice any extra clarity or surround effects on either version.

The bottom line is to buy the game no matter which platform you choose. I'm probably going to pick up the PS3 version tonight but really they both play well, and look and sound great. If Vsync bothers you and you have a choice stick with PS3, but DO NOT be put off from buying the game if you only have 360. The game is still worth every penny despite the vsync and slightly longer loading times (which I noticed but really are not worth complaining about.)

Why they would put configuration "C" (shooting on X, arm on A, and grenades on B) as the last option is beyond me. The default setup is ass backwards and I truly hope that Grin refrains from allowing who ever set up the buttons for BC:R from doing so in future games.

Yeah, I figured this out last night. Turns out I can shoot diagonally by not pressing the stick at all.

Hmm, I was incorrect about what aspect ratios the PC version supports. It lists all different aspect ratios in settings but the only real aspect ratio is support is 16:9, if you have a 4:3 monitor you'll be playing in letterbox.

Ok I am stuck. I think I cant beat level 7 and 9 right now. I think I need the laser that bounces of walls anyone now where I need to go?

That's fine. How about the resolutions? Does it go highter than 1080p?

The wait for the PSN store to update is going to be hard. Being the impatient person I am I might just buy it off the JP store along with a few PSN games.

This is how you remake a classic game. Fucking Epic.

I cant wait for the 3D Bionic Commando game now.

Yeah, i would have preferred a remake of the arcade version (also, i would have liked real 2d graphics, but anyway) but i agree the nes game is much deeper and better suited for home fruition.
Game's great, third downloadable game i bought this gen, after rez and omega five.

Anyway, speaking of the 3d bionic commando, any idea when it's coming out ?
Shouldn't be too far off, and latest trailers had me quite hyped.

Spring 09

Ok those backpack soldiers suck. They can not expect me without the wall lasr to beat those right?

Almost beat the game in co-op. We got to Area 12, but I died at the boss. The only thing stopping us from beating it now is hand cramps. :lol

Really well designed game, lots of fun. There are tons of secrets too, so it's going to be pretty replayable. I haven't touched any of the Challenge Rooms yet but I've unlocked all the normal ones. The secret ones are a BITCH to unlock since they're hidden in #&%# locations in the normal stages. :D

what ? ??
damn, with all the media released recently i was under the impression the game would be released this fall, like oct/nov.
That sucks
On the other hand, i'm happy because i'm sure Strider is next.

I've only found one secret area so far, the one in area 4. I love how it isn't "blow up a wall, here's your reward!" Instead, there's a long and pretty hard swinging section.

probably one of the more pathetic things I've read on gaf.

This game is gorgeous. Besides the fact that the 360 D-pad is a total bitch the controls are solid. Did anyone else notice a little screen tearing now and then?

Best way to play on a PC? I'm guessing DS3 via USB (or Logitech equivalent).

When does Steam normally receive new content? Or does normal not describe their updates?

You obviously haven't been reading this thread :lol

I was impatient and bought the 360 version yesterday...there's tearing, but I couldn't care less really.

May even grab PSN version later as well to support 3rd party games on it, and also because the game rocks and I know I'd use remote play at some point.

Thinking about the PC and PS3 versions. Mainly so I can play while on business trips.
