The Bionic Commando Rearmed Official Thread of SUPPPAHHHH JOE!

Me and my brother are having a blast with it (aside from us killing each other with bazooka shots), but we've run into a bit of a snag on one of the levels. We both hate the level that has
spike treadmills and the 2nd Platoon
SO ANNOYING.

Really good game so far (I'm on Area 2 boss now, trying ot figure out how to kill it - Area 4 boss was easy). The only thing that annoys me a bit are unskippable top-down sequences. They are fine first few times, but then become repetitive, easy, and unavoidable sometimes. I know they kept them there for the sake of old NES game, but I think they should have made them optional, with the question "do you want to go into this mission yes/no". You can escape out of these missions by quitting to main menu and continuing the game anyways (that bring you to the map again and you just select your landing location again), but that too takes time and is contrived. I have basically only started the game and this is already a nuisance and very repetitive - I can only imagine how it would feel after few more hours.

Other than that, great graphics, great sound and music, nice traversal puzzles, good bosses, great controls, and lots of fun in general. I was expecting a bit more out of the presentation with so many people praising it, but I feel it's a bit barren compared to what I was expecting (certainly no SSDHD level of glitz). That doesn't really matter though.

I also felt the presentation was kind of ... unremarkable.

Man I have a bad feeling about the sales of this. My 100 person friends list, entirely populated by gamers old enough to have played BC back in the day, maybe 4 have bought it.

Check the total leaderboards instead of your naff friends. There were more than 20k there yesterday, which means it's probably selling on par with GW2 (ie. incredible well).

It could be better, but I think they kept it simple like the original. The only thing I really would have liked to see is a better transition between the map and the game. When you select a mission, it just immediately goes to a loading screen. They should have done something else (perhaps to mask the loading). Everything else is presented well enough.

First time playing a bionic commando. LOVE this game. Awesome sound track, graphics and hard ass campy feel. Recommend this to ANYONE :D

Whoa, anyone in all caps. You must REALLY mean it.

I've gotten all the secrets in the first seven levels (01-06 and 08) so far. The grapple controls on moving platforms is really screwed up, but I suppose you can get the hang of it (try the secret level with the helmet, holy hell). I wish the end of level report allowed you to pull up your leaderboard. Otherwise, I'm having fun even though I'm taking the slow and steady route.

Does anybody know yet if the "Hacking on Hard" achievement can be gotten on Super Hard as well?

(Probably not, MGC.net shows top Gamerscore of 165 so far).

in the 1up interview they say that there are differences between the 360 and PS3 version, what are they?

Comparing now (both demos).

-360 has an extra loading sequence for some reason.

-At the very very beginning of the 360's parachute sequence there is a slight tear in the blue sky. You can barley notice it.

-360 is brighter and more colorful.

-Shadows are softer on PS3 and more pixelated or sharp on 360, depending on how you want to look at it. PS3 looks more natural though, imo.

-Foliage on the ground looks better on 360. Looks like they didn't water the lawn on PS3. Grass looks dead and pieces are missing.

-PS3 has better sound quality. Bass hits harder, sounds are more distinct (barrels I noticed especially), and everything is generally louder.

-Rumble is faster/sharper on 360, slower/more dull on PS3.

-Controls are good on both, yet I feel more comfortable with the PS3 controller (D-pad). This is the reason: In a crouching position it's easier to turn yourself around by accident with the 360 controller. Any slight variation in the way you are pressing down will cause your character to turn. This is much harder to do with the PS3 controller, where you actually have to press part of the left or right portion of the d-pad to turn around.

That confirms it for me. I'm waiting and getting the PS3 version. It's not horrible at all, but I can see the 360 d-pad giving me a slight headache once the game starts getting more difficult. Every so often I will crouch and be turned around. I don't need that. Other than that, they are both full of pros and cons. Neither version being perfect.

Hope this helps some people.

Also, I find it surprising that more people (a few here and Eurogamer) complain about no jump but have nothing to say about not being able to shoot up or diagonal. Which one would be more usefull? Priorities people.

Anyway, I picked up BC:R the second I got home yesterday and Dark Mist later that night. They are both awesome after you change the controller configuration for each (BC:R=config "C" and Dark Mist right stick fire normal weapon). I'm going to have a fun gaming weekend. :D :D :D

Could you help me out on Area 03? I couldn't find the secret in there. Thanks

There is a crack in the ceiling in the outside area for the first one, use a rocket launcher to destroy it. You have to grapple to the top area to the right of the communications room for the second one. If you miss it, you can't get back up so you'll need to die or restart the level.

The secrets are pretty easy if you just pay attention to the area.

.................loading?
Actually, the loading is not bad at all on PS3 (6-7 seconds for the longest loadtime), but they should have hidden it anyways. It's twice as long on 360 for some reason (13-14 seconds).

I figured the PC version would be completely lacking any, though, but no Steam = no sale for me.

1up.com

BJ: Retroactively. It's not going to be with launch, because that firmware isn't in our hands yet. I can say that this will be the only downloadable title to have unique content per platform. There's a lot of unique content. There are some secret areas and rooms that you can only get to depending on which platform that you have. There will be some tie-in that we're going to announce later as well. On top of that, there's hidden content in the game that you have to find. There's a lot of stuff in the game.

0-0.5 seconds on my PC, yeah. And of course a rock solid 1080p 60fps.

Lack of steam really, really sucks, but I wasn't going to let that keep me from the PC version. Had a hassle free purchase on gamersgate.

I think that is the result of the scaling. I'm running on a 768p Kuro and the two look exactly the same in terms of image quality as do screenshots. Neither game is using anti-aliasing and both run at 1280x720. You have your 360 upscaling to 1920x1080 which seems to produce a slightly different image than when the TV upscales by itself.

When testing various 1080p displays I did notice that the 360 handled upscaling better than most televisions did so that is probably where the difference is stemming from. You should try setting your 360 to 720p and seeing if there are any differences.

Yes it's probably a scaling issue on my TV: I tried setting the 360 to output 720p and the menus looks similar now. But the chainlink fence is still much more defined on the 360, but it's a moot point regardless, other than the tearing they're pretty much the same game.

Nevermind, figured it out. Thanks!

My TV is true 720p native, and the XBLA version looks noticeably better. Aside from the aliasing with the PS3 version, something seems slightly off with the colors. Both my systems are hooked up via HDMI, and yes I have tried it on PS3 with and without full range.

Just nitpicking though, I bought it for PSN (only played the XBLA demo) for the controller and it still looks great for what it is.

Does anyone have an MP3 of the Announcement trailer remix?

Its the music that starts with the original theme and kicks into the remix version.

I think you can actually download it via Realplayer when using the Bionic Commando music player at the main site. Thats what I did anyway.

Also forget the leaderboards for challenge rooms. I see why they give an achievement for just doing decent in all challenge rooms...

after playing both versions I also felt that the 360 version had more vivid colors

Im still surprised it runs at 60fps after checkin out those videos of the game.

Also looks like some of the FSA soldiers got their wishes for more advanced weapons and robot armor (alot of that stuff is in Bionic Commando 3d :lol ).

I do, but I can't grab onto the upper-right section unless I grab straight up... is there a way to swing after you do that or something?

Can you use the shotgun in the challenge rooms? That gives you a momentum kick.

What is at the end of the secret tunnels? I'm having a hell of a time making my way through the first one, and want to know what the reward is. I got the hat so far, can't make it much farther. I suck.

NOTHING is at the end of the tunnels. It's literally just one tunnel from one end to the other end. When you get to the exit, it just exits. I believe the secrets in the tunnels are related to the blue switches throughout the tunnels themselves, but there's nothing at the END. I found that out the hard way. >_<

Okay is it just me or do the PSN scoreboards take a crazy long time to update? Shouldn't it be instant? All through the challenge rooms I kept checking "My Score" and my score wouldn't show up even after registering my score. I just thought maybe I suck so much that it doesn't even make the scoreboards. But I swear I got at least a top ten world score on Challenge Room 25, and I didn't see my score on there. But I do see my score for stuff I did yesterday.

So does anyone know how the PSN BC:R scoreboards work? It's just a little annoying because Super Stardust HD is always INSTANTLY updated.

It takes about 30 mins before your score is updated into the system. I'm not sure how it works, but after it registers your score online, I guess the system does other things with it before the main scoreboard is updated. Maybe it does updates every 30mins or something and adds all the scores uploaded in that time frame. Who knows.

I know the 14-17 one (I think it's that one) has blue switches you hit with the arcing laser. When you hit them all, an extra platform appears below the exit (hard to time a jump onto), and that leads to
the Secret Dossier, which helps you find other secrets in the game by appearing on-screen when you're near one
.

Hmm I think i'll go after this before going after all the other secrets.

who did the hand drawn art in this game? looks like the same guy who did CvS2's art.
It is, Shinkiro is his name. The art guy at Grin mentioned in part 3 of the behind the scenes video that he drew the poses and facial expressions, submitted it to Shinkiro, and Shinkiro rendered it in his style. I though that was pretty interesting.

Thanks for the tip!

I've never played BC before, and this, so far, is my game of the year. I'm absolutely in love with it.

Man that was annoying as hell! I got the helmet, saw that there was more (even more insane) lifts behind it and tried for another fifteen minutes or so to get through it all just to find out it was a door to nothing. Oh well, getting through the whole thing probably gave me the skills to pay the bills when I get to the Challenge Rooms.

Wow, the final level really IS fucking long. It's Wily Tower all over again :(

I died on the boss, the level feels like it takes 20+ minutes to get there

If I remember correctly Area 00 had a Building with a Yashichi sign on it, anyone know what it does? Maybe if you get all 12 Yashichi it unlocks the door for something?
