TheHeretic said:Just got this, very mixed impressions thus far. They completely redid the visuals yet for reasons unknown decided to keep some pretty terrible gameplay mechanics. When theres a barrel right next to me I can't jump over it? Seriously? But when I use my arm I fly right through it?

The arm only firing at 45 degree intervals feels archaic as well. I really wish the default gun didn't require you to press down each time you want to fire, thats just stupid and has no reason to be in the game.
Apart from those (none of which is close to gamebreaking) running into "vehicles" in the map screen is seriously annoying. I've done the same retarded level like 5 times now, its not fun at all.
The overall game could use some explanation as well. Am I supposed to do the levels in order? I started a level and couldn't get past a wall 4 seconds into it. Is figuring out the order of the levels part of the challenge? Am I supposed to buy new weapons? Why are there so many friendly bases? It seems like the game gets to pass on some obvious flaws "because its a remake".

I was actually going to counter-argue your post until I realized how ridiculous it was. I thought the laughing smilies were quite fitting. And "shut up?". This is a forum.TheHeretic said:I wonder how the great debaters of old would feel about coherency being replaced by laughing smilies. If you have something meaningful to say, say it, if not, shut up.

maxax said:The game requires you to learn its rules, and that may take some time depending on your skill. If you don't have that time, the game is probably not for you.
I learned and FUCKING LOVED this game, and I have never played the original BC so there's not even nostalgia here.

Oh, you mean like the tutorial in Bionic Commando: Rearmed?TheHeretic said:All games should subscribe to the "learn my rules or fuck off hater" philosophy. Why bother explaining anything when thats just the challenge of the game!
taku said:Oh, you mean like the tutorial in Bionic Commando: Rearmed?
Thing is. You don't have to like this game. We all have different kind of games we prefer. It's okay!(You bring up some pretty weird points though)
maxax said::lol :lol :lol :lol
You just NEED to find something to bitch about in this game right?
You get a weapon later on that does continually fire, btw. You'll probably bitch about the fact that it has to reload though. Another weapon even charges up when you hold the button!
TheHeretic said:You have to press a button for each bullet to shoot, when holding the button down should simply continually fire. Its annoying in a lot of older games and existed seemingly to sell those retarded "turbo" controllers.
Hmm. I think you have a problem with the general game design of the game. Maybe this isn't your type of game. It's like you're trying to play a genre you hate..TheHeretic said:I've just started, and all the tutorial did was explain the arm mechanics. I don't dislike the game, but it has some pretty obvious problems right from the get go. Why can't I jump down through platforms? Why can't I shoot up?
Why the fuck would I want to spam a button when I could just HOLD IT DOWN? Its annoying and its stupid, period.
Wow, and I thought that I was lazy. You need to tap the button three times to kill a guy, it's not that hard really. Later on you'll kill people with your swings and grapples anyway.TheHeretic said:Why the fuck would I want to spam a button when I could just HOLD IT DOWN? Its annoying and its stupid, period.

I just feel I need to ask this for the good of mankind.. Have you ever played a sidescroller before?TheHeretic said:It has nothing to do with being lazy, its an obvious oversight that would be called out in any 2d shooter today. Of course its not welcome here because this thread is a giant circle jerk.

Because most guns are semi-automatic. Because it's all about the game design. Because it's a remake. There aren't many fully automatic handguns out there, mind you..TheHeretic said:What an obnoxious question, please inform me of the good reason the gun should work that way. Sure, its not that big of a deal, but since you guys are so adamant about defending every aspect of this game, lets hear the excuses roll in.

But especially, because this really is a design choice. And you'll probably understand a bit more if you keep playing the game. Oh and there are multiple weapons in this game.

Basically this game is not for you Mr.Heretic. Do not play this game.TheHeretic said:The parallel between firing an actual gun and shooting orbs at enemies is ridiculous. If you want to go "there" the vast majority of FPS's will continually fire pistols by simply holding a button down, including HL2 and Halo.
Holding the button down should continually fire the gun, the fact that people are even arguing otherwise just shows how ridiculous you all are.

Fully agree.Wurm said:Guess what, Bionic Commando isnt a FPS. Its not about the mindless gunning down of legions on enemies, its about tactically swinging from platform to platform picking them off. You might as well be saying "OMG Why doesnt Halo have a DMC combo/gun juggling system for the plasma sword?!?!?!?"
It is also a faithful remake of a NES GAME. It has the classic Megaman mechanic of only having 3 of your shots on screen at once. You cannot jump because THAT IS THE POINT. You have to carefully grapple your way up the enemy bases, thinking about where you are going. This isn't a run+gun, its a tactical platformer.
WTF? This has to be a joke.TheHeretic said:When theres a barrel right next to me I can't jump over it? Seriously? But when I use my arm I fly right through it?
Learn to play through tutorial?TheHeretic said:The arm only firing at 45 degree intervals feels archaic as well.
This game is not that kind of game where you have to deal with tons of enemies with rapid fire.TheHeretic said:I really wish the default gun didn't require you to press down each time you want to fire, thats just stupid and has no reason to be in the game.
Kind of agree with this, pretty pointless mini game IMO.TheHeretic said:Apart from those (none of which is close to gamebreaking) running into "vehicles" in the map screen is seriously annoying. I've done the same retarded level like 5 times now, its not fun at all.
