The Conduit Discussion Thread (Videos + Other Media)

Yeah I know. I mean I am really basing my decision on the fact that I have 10 Wii games and only 4 PS3 games. The PS3 could do with a few more games.

I find it hard to beleive someone who has both a PS3 and Wii could find more games for Wii.

I am at:

3 wii games

13 PS3 games :lol

I know, but it's simple. All multi format games = Xbox 360, then theres Uncharted, MGS4, LBP and SC4 (Beat em ups go on PS3 automatically).
Wii I have all the good games + Wii Sports, Wii play, Mario Kart (last game I bought) etc.

I have 18 Wii games, and 6 PS3 games. DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS, CHAMP.

What would you rate this game?
It looks like a rail shooter. It looks like junk, the Wii is simply not the platform for a fps.

Based off what I've seen looks like quake 1 had better AI :lol .

Christ nobody cares about how many more Wii games than own than PS3 games people own or vice-versa.

I know I'm going to get flamed for this but I still think this is the most over-hyped over-rated game on the Wii.

I just don't see whats so special about it.
just call it the Wii's Killzone 2. An exclusive shooter fans can latch onto and pushes the system.

Hey, this Video was the comparison between conduit and James Bond Wii!

Haven't you recognized those hands? :lol

:lol That's what I thought too.

I love Sega for publishing this game.

Oh Mad World is definitely screwed.

I think Mad World would be screwed in any console. It seems like a cooler Man Hunt type game.

But at least Killzone 2 is going for a slower more tactical experience. And that first person cover system is what Brothers in Arms : Hells Highway should have used.

I mean everyone is wetting themselves with the customizable control feature.

I have more games for my wii than ps360 combined to honest...
*shrugs*

Anyway, the amount of effort here shouldnt be a wake up call to just wii devs, but developers in general. Ill definitely do my part to support them.

I'm curious, have you played a Wii FPS with good controls yet? Specifically Medal of Honor Heroes 2 or World at War?

Go read the ign hands on. Its a brawler. Final Fight style. Just has a ton of environmental kills and mini games like man darts thrown in.

so, you don't actually want the game, but want to support the devs?

I'm going to buy it because it looks like it can be an interested shooter, and games like Metroid Prime 3 have shown that fps games could be fun on the Wii--however, the thing that confuses me about the reception towards this game is how it seems like some people only have interested in this game because it is on the Wii. I mean, if you're gonna get this excited over an fps game, then why not try the dozens of FPS games on the PC/360/PS3? It's like getting hyped over Cro-Mag Rally on the iPhone while being oblivious to Mario Kart since it's on another platform.

14 Wii games, 8 360 games, and 2 PS3 games (hope I can make that 5 when I can afford to buy VALKYRIE, Disgea, and Uncharted).

Anyway, I like the customization and stuff, but they really need new artists, Christ.

Personally, I really enjoy the Wii FPS controls. They certainly don't beat PC, but they're the most tolerable on console (unless you count games that support kb/m on PS3). We've seen two games that really take advantage of the controls (Heroes 2, WaW), but one is a PSP port and the other is missing a ton of features for no reason.

I'm excited to see an FPS with good controls that's actually fully featured and built for the Wii instead of a quick port or after-thought.

Holy shit at the customizable HUD. Hope someone plays through with all the HUD elements opaque and right in the center of the screen.

It doesn't look like the next coming of Christ, but it looks like a fun Wii shooter that will control well - a good implementation of the wii shooting controls (in an actual shooter - yes I know about MP3) is a big draw for me.

Should I... should I be impressed by the graphics?
I mean, it's nice that they're making a type of game that appeals to me more than Party Babiez and what not, but when I can get far more technically impressive games on other systems, why bother? The impression I've gotten from PR and trailers is that the main draw of this game is its usage of the Wii hardware, but that definitely isn't enough to get me to buy a game.

I played a little of Medal of Honor Heroes 2 over a friend's house and I hated it. But I'm talking about the game itself like the AI.

I think this game is pretty much for people who only own a Wii and/or people who don't want to play FPS games with dual analog control.

You hated the game or the controls? I can see hating the game (it's not great by any means) but the controls are what made it fun. You can have a personal preference, but the Wiimote+nunchuk is a far better solution for console FPS as far as accuracy and quickness goes. Unless you're one of those guys who thinks dual analog rivals a kb/m too, then I don't now what to tell you. Anyway...

I think it's a little goofy to judge the AI already. We really haven't seen much of the game at all. To be honest, I don't expect it to be great either, but since when does the AI have to be great for the game to be fun?

comedy bomb said:
You forgot one.

Prime 3? Nope. When it came out it felt very fast and responsive, but compared to the two games I've mentioned it feels much slower.

I was skeptical but I'm very impressed with how all the elements are coming together. I just hope the feeling of nailing an enemy doesn't come off as shallow. It needs to pack a punch.

I disagree. The PS3 and 360 have graphics and better online, but the Wii has better controls for FPS games. And if you disagree with that statement you are simply wrong, just like someone who trys to say dual analogs are better the keyboard and mouse, it might be your preference but dual analogs are less precise then KB/M as well as the wii-mote.

This game in particular trys to make up for the Wii's biggest weakness when it comes to FPS's (graphics) by really pushing the Wii hardware.

Yeah, why bother trying to make a game look as good as possible when there are stronger platforms available? Why not just make it look liike shit, rite???

People are excited about this game because it's an original third party "hardcore" title that isn't being phoned in for a quick buck. How does this obvious fact elude so many of you?

Having so many sliders and options just to make the controls work well is not very appealling for me... I mean, I like that it is in fact, quite customizeable. But this is too much, I'd like it if you didn't have to spend 1 hour customizing it to perfection... It shouldn't be that way..
You are not hardcore enough.

Or it’s for people who really enjoy shooters, pointer controls, and would like to play a new game.

It’s really not fucking rocket science. It’s a game that looks fun being released on a singular platform. Those interested will buy it, those who aren’t wont.

I prefer IR aiming on my FPS.

Well being on the Wii means using the wiimote, that's why people are excited it's on the system. It's one thing for a 3rd party to release a Wii version of an FPS, but it's another for one to be made ground up for the system as the only game of that kind has been MP3.

It looks fucking awesome. I'm getting regardless of bad reviews or if the game turns out to be just average. I hope it has a fun multiplayer options! :D

Every damn topic.
We get it, the PS3 and 360 are more powerful consoles.
Does that mean the Wii shouldn't get good, core games?

all i have to say is: deatmatch better not be gimped, as that will decide my purchase.

otherwise, kudos to the devs for actually not trashing the system, and also taking their time with the development - it does take balls to do either.

That second developer diary was nicely put together. The narrator had a pleasant voice and didn't stumble over his lines. The end of the video was quite nice. Fully customizable controls and HUD elements make for a potentially slick experience. They should allows us to save our customized controls/HUD preferences into a new preset, and allow us to share said presets with friends over the internet. Adding numerical values to everything is a nice start, but I like my way better. :D

actually, yeah, the customizable hud thing should be in more games. I like my hud at the bottom of the screen.

The "comparison" video is nothing more than a cheeky marketing ploy but the more I see of it the more game is winning me over. Considering the limitations of the hardware and the (lack of) effort placed in most third party offerings on the system The Conduit looks pretty damned impressive.

The customizable control variables and hud give me the impression that the developers really know what they are doing and that makes me interested in their game.

Can the PS3 fans get the fuck out please? If you're not impressed or you don't care, than don't post, but don't come in here like you just walked out of a car crash.

"Why does anyone wanna play this fully featured fps instead of spending 400 bucks for Killzone 2. I don't get it wahh"

The look is coming together now. It actually looks like a self contained world instead of a texture party like it did before.

It does seem to mesh a lot better now than it did before. The only odd looking bits now are the enemies and the weird flickering around their body. Also the skybox in one that shot still looks bad, but they could still fix that up easily by making the buildings crude 3D models instead.

I'm actually semi-interested in the game now. I'll wait to see how the game turns when determining if I buy it or not. In any case, I hope Sega puts some money into advertising. I think this game more than anything else needs to succeed on the Wii to prove that people are buying more than just first party games and shovelware third party games.

This game looks incredible. I just recently popped MoH:H2 in again, and I forgot how awesome controlling with the Wiimote can be. The Conduit looks to get it right and then some. I love what I see.

Also, I hope SEGA and Nintendo realize what they have on their hands now. I know the Wii market is a "casual" market, but there are really not a lot of good FPS games on the console. Even less dealing with aliens. If I remember correctly, there are more than a couple popular Sci Fi FPS games on the PS3 and 360. While the Wii has... Metroid Prime... and even that's not entirely action and didn't receive an advertising push.

If SEGA advertises correctly, and reaches the appropriate market, this game could do very well. There are a ton of people out there with Wiis that haven't been turned on for about a year who are dying to play a game like this. Most of them don't even know this game exists yet, and I'm talking about the casual crowd. I feel like this game is very marketable, but perhaps I am overestimating the potential of the Wii market?

DeaconKnowledge said:

Agreed. Perhaps it was the effect of seeing horribly rendered footage compared to what it is now, but that first video made the game look very good.

Still seems really uneven and rough to me. Looks like it'll be a very average shooter with great controls, but I guess that's all some people really want out of it. The hype some are attempting with this thing is pathetic. The art is still bad, the AI looks ridiculous, the visuals still look really uneven, and the overall design seems sketchy. Thankfully it looks like they've put in some great controls and control options which should make the game worth checking out.

Right now I'm leaning towards rental and nothing more. I guess we'll have to see if the multiplayer is worth a damn or just your average fps fare.

I know this is a long shot, but I can't shake this thought.

If this game really takes off by having great game play and sales how foolish would Ubisoft, EA, and any other big dev/publisher feel? How would Epic feel if this engine takes off on the Wii and really opens the door for core games on the console. That's money that has been left on the table all this time that HV could be about to pick up.

I'm not saying it will happen or that even has a high chance of happening, but I would love to have a good laugh if it did.
