The console screenshot thread (Read Rules)

Some fantastic pictures you are all posting. Thanks for that, these consoles show that when art and technical direction are married together, there's some fantastic imagery that is to be beheld.

Unfortunately, i don't think there is (haven't heard of it). But that game would really shine with higher resolution and framerate.

Damn. =( It would have been nice to play the game for a third time after ten years, especially as its visuals have been upgraded.

EDIT: Anniversary edition looks great when put next to the old one, but the more bright and colorful interiors kinda bother me, particularly the increased yellow in them.

Popped HR in to see how it compares to Beyond..

Damn, Beyond's models look like they're from another gen compared to HR's, and I remember being blown away by these loading close-ups!
The difference becomes even more noticeable ingame. Beyond's ingame models come pretty damn close to the menu model during close-ups, while HR's really don't. Then you remember that besides the much better looking faces Beyond also fixed the horrible tearing that plagued HR, has a more consistent framerate, better AA, better IQ, bigger environments that also look more impressive than some of the houses in HR, much better lighting, textures, clothing, hair, reflections, camera effects, particles (my god those particles) and shadows.
The only downside really are the black bars. But my god I gladly take them if the result is an insane list of improvements like here. It's almost Uncharted--->Uncharted 2 level. It's just nuts that both games run on the exact same hardware.

To summarize the jump in quality: Heavy Rain, a game which is focused around police investigation and features police officers in every other scene, has models that look like this:

Meanwhile in Beyond, cops are only present in one scene in the entire game and they look like this:

See, that's a proper remake there. Rebuilt from the ground up using today's game tech, but otherwise sticking 100% to the original game design and layout. Wish more people would do this sort of thing.

Actually, it's just a rendering engine that sits on top of the original Halo PC engine code. Not sure if you've played the game but the "original" shots are just him pressing the Back button to switch to the original graphics.

I know what program you used but how on earth did you combine these pics with the hud and gun?

Does the Anniversary edition let you turn off the hud or something?

It's basically luck with MICE/HUGIN combined with heavy image editing in GIMP/PS.

Halo Anniversary does not really let you turn off the hud, there are 2 skulls that let you get rid of 2 elements but you still have to deal with the rest and the gun modell on screen. I imagine that when you are very good with setting up control points manually for deformation in HUGIN that you can make a panorama picture out of any image, hud or no hud. But my attempts at that are rarely positive, they mostly turn into a horrible mess of a picture. The gun modell seems to be especially of a problem when going automatic (control point magnet). Sometimes the hud appears in the composition where it should be and i let it sit there instead of painting it out in PS/GIMP.

In this case i edited out all hud elements beforehand, sometimes that works better, sometimes it doesn't seem to have any effect on the outcome.

Nbnt, those ascension shots are incredible.

I've always been frustrated because sony never produced shot of the games most astounding moments. Super underrated entry, way to shed the light.

Thanks :D

Warning, Uncharted 3 spamming:

Some of the environment details are just incredible, but those jaggies :( wish they used a better AA solution.

You all know that DOA5 photo-mode is awful. Photos show bad compression, are full of artifacts, ton of aliasing and marred by a poorly designed watermak. I worked on them as best as I could. These are the results:

Game has no AA which explains the aliasing. This is the best I could do using PNG:

Alll things considered a pretty good port. Dirt and Leifang look absolutely hideous, but that's about my only gripe with it.

Will a new thread start with the launch of the PS4? Will be awesome being able to take direct 1080p shots via the Share function.

I will be doing a whole lot of it.
