I'm sitting this one out with my PC and 3DS. Gaming forums are the only places on the internet that raise my blood pressure.
Exactly!! I read through the post listings every day here on gaming side, and every day there's at least one post or thread that make my blood boil. Frankly, more often than not though a lot of it makes my head hurt just reading it. Every day I tell myself this is a waste of time. But the very next day I find myself browsing the thread listings. I guess it's just some weird fascination to see it on a daily basis.
As for the topic: You know, this whole console war thing is utterly ridiculous. And it's an even bigger waste of time than reading through the forum every day! To those who insist on enlisting in one of the three "armies" I guess we could say..why? What possible benefit is there to this? What can you possibly get out if it that's going to be meaningful and make your life better? One of the very first posts got it exactly, and these console warriors and forum idiots need to read it over and over 100 times if that's what it takes: These companies aren't your personal friends, amigos, compadres, as much as some want to think they are. They're in business to make money. Period. That's it. They don't give 2 craps if this forum or any others love or hate them. They're going to release the products they feel are going to make them the most money. They're going to make the future decisions they need to to stay in business and make more money. Doesn't matter if you like those decisions or not. Throwing shit fits on forums won't change those decisions. If people don't like Company X's decision isn't it more worthwhile to speak by not buying the products they dislike instead of screaming on forums? Leave it at voting with your money people. That's the best way. 20 page dissertations on why they don't like the product plus another 3 on why they're now boycotting that company won't make a damn bit of difference.
None of us have any vested interest in these companies. Unless you're on their Boards, develop for them or have some stock in these companies you have zero vested interest, yet some sure act like it and you'd swear it's life or death if their company of choice "wins" or "loses". Literally. And that's sad. We all like games, so shouldn't we as gamers support the games themselves, what makes them good, and what they're doing right instead if slamming it before release and going "F! F!! They're desecrating this series and destroying it! No buy!!!" How is any series really "supposed" to be? Isn't it supposed to be about innovating, new approaches and new ideas for each sequel? There's FAR too much focus on the NPDs, media create, and financial performance going in. It's not your worry. It's the worry of these companies, their partners, and their financial people. That information shouldn't be available for you people to plaster all over online and go next phase of the war!! Lets discuss our strategy!
But what's saddest of all to me is how so many online insist this whole thing is a grand eternal war between these 3 companies, none of them can fall, and it can only include them and no others. Here's a great idea: put down your damn pitchforks, weapons and this whole war agenda. Embrace the games as gamers. Talk about the games as gamers that all love the same hobby! You don't always need to agree but can't there be discussion without any of this silly war business?! Talk about what the games do right and wrong but it should be civil.
I think we've grown past this console war crap guys. I'd sure like to think so. Put down the damn weapons and war agenda and just be gamers talking about games. I've wanted to really write these thoughts down for a while so I'm glad this thread popped up!
