Played the game a bit and I can't wrap my head around the fact the they shipped the beta with those shitty control preferences. Definitely change to hardcore for driving aids and try to adjust the other stuff in the settings menu. It makes the game muuuuuch better. The graphics are actually pretty good outside of the horrible aliasing/ low resolution (Xbox one version here). I can see me playing this game a lot.
 
So I beat the prologue which you can play while the second half of the game continues to download.

Handing like I posted above feels like a dreamcast racing game, the back of the car will continue to slide around and it can be hard to correct yourself at speed without snaking all over the road, you can help this by braking but it still feels off, maybe this improves as you upgrade your car.

Visuals look alright to me, a few places on the map which feel like last gen but the game itself has plenty to look at, the cars all look nice too.

I can't say much about screen quality because i'm playing at 720p on my tv, if it's downscaling I can't tell.

o Raid Car Pack- available April 2015, includes off-road vehicles, highly recommended for all-terrain missions
o 23 additional tuning kits unlocked to spec out the Season Pass car line-up for premium performance on any terrain
o All official paintjobs and rims for each car
o An exclusive sticker delivered with each car pack
o New PvP mode available beginning of 2015

With the release of each content pack included in the Season Pass, there will be new missions corresponding with each pack’s theme, available to all players free of charge. New customisation options, paint jobs, rims, interiors and tuning specs will also be released on in-game stores.

Sure why not before the game is even released. Nabbed a code not from here and tested it out..the controls are horrible if you come from Driveclub or even Rivals these are abysmal. Graphics are okish but holy damn the sound is awful using a 5.1 surround sound i cannot hear the cars or music.
 
I still have the previous beta installed, can I access this updated beta from that?

I ask, because I got send another code just now, and I don't want to waste it.

Dunno. I input my code in the Store, and the logo of the Beta appeared with the red PSN bag (already bought). Now i don't know if i wasted that code or not :(

Yes you can, that's how I did it.
On X1, there was a 2.5GB update.
 
No code for me on the PS4 =\. I was actually kinda excited for this game but wanted to play it first. I'm trusting your impressions now gaf! Don't fail me!

I agree, it's one of the poorest looking games I've seen this gen.

Yes it is open world, but it's only streaming a finite amount of the map at once - just as Horizon 2 does. And Horizon 2 looks like a generation above this. The image quality is appalling in The Crew.

The size of the map shouldn't excuse it for how poorly displayed the current section is.
 
This isn't very fun so far. It's also one of the worst looking games on current gen systems. To be fair it does have a gigantic map which is pretty cool, but I think I'd rather just buy GTAV and drive around in that. Open worlds don't really mean much to me if they are inhabited.
 
I don't make much of it. Doesn't look like a NG game, and it keep disconnecting from the servers every so often.
 
I really don't understand the appeal of this game. It feels like the by-the-numbers open world racer, and with all the extraneous (and in no way original) stuff, the driving model seems to have been forgotten.
 
First impressions from the first couple of races:

Graphics are the worst I've seen this generation, it looks like an unimpressive last gen game, the scale of the map looks huge but that only excuses so much.

It's nice that there's wildlife like horses and birds on farms and I don't want to run them over but just passing through them looks really poor (couldn't they have them move out the way in time like pedestrians in the first Driver game?)

Story feels shoehorned in and totally unnecessary

I could put up with all that but my biggest problem is the handling, it's awful. I read it's been improved since the last beta, If that's the case I'd hate to see what it was like then, just ruins it for me.

It's sad, a little over a month ago I was torn between which driving game to get; This, Driveclub or Project Cars. Now, Driveclub is broken, project cars is delayed until next year and this isn't anything like what I hoped it would be.

I'll give it some more time but I can't see it getting much better

That is really not good, especially since it is less than a month away from being released. Can't believe it's STILL in beta even though it's this close (in the sense that they are still trying to beta test the game with people this close to release). I have a feeling it's going to be released and still feel like a beta.
