Tried it on PS4.
- I played until after I got my first 'Street' uograde and raced Zoe (?), who is someone in the game I know somehow. The game has a story to it, you get put in prison for being accused of killing your brother, then 5 years later you're out. Anyway, onto the important stuff.
Handling.
The cars sure are weighty, perhaps too much, even for a Mustang and the 4x4 at the start drove like shit. It wasn't really much fun to drive the cars around, and it has the type of floaty handling where you never feel in control of the car, you are just holding on for dear life to see if the car falls off the road or not. There is a 350Z which probably handles sharper, but the choice was pretty much muscle (which being Detroit made sense, I suppose).
I don't know what it is about Ubisoft games, but they don't seem to want the player to have fun. The instant you drive in this, you have oncoming traffic trying to kill you, police trying to spin you out, or perfectly placed track side stuff that wants to fuck you up. Just back the fuck off for a bit will ya?
Framerate.
Shit. Sub 30 with frequent drops and tearing. WHY?
Visuals.
Looks alright, FH2 is much prettier and easier on the eyes than this, as is a generation old Burnout Paradise and Driver SF which runs at double the framerate.
So far, you drive from waypoint to waypoint getting missions, listening to characters introduce stuff and tell you about features. I would imagine driving around with your friends co-operatively could be potentially fun in this, and the map looks really huge. Who knows how much of it is worthwhile though? Can't really say for now, I just know this isn't for me.
The wait for a top tier racing game on PS4 continues.
