The Crew Beta codes has been sent, post here your impressions

First Raid race where you have to take the guy out.

What is this bullshit?

Seriously considering uninstalling this game right now. I was having fun, now I have a vein throbbing in my head and almost threw my DS4 across the room after coming so close for the 4th time.

Seriously, fuck this game right now.

That mission was a pain, i had to switch the driving options from hardcore back to sport when i was just getting used to hardcore.. It was damn near impossible on hardcore. After trying afew times with the time running out each try, i ended up catching him when the plane is flying overhead pretty early in the chase..

What you want to do is line up your car behind his and use the nitrous to catch up, but dont ram the back of the car, pull along side it and easily push into the side of their ride so your making constant contact, their health will drop almost instantly and you've won.

Each one of those skill challenges (little green triangles on the map) unlocks a new upgrade for your car, increasing speed, braking, grip, turbo, etc, etc. The handling can get somewhat better.

Has anyone actually finished it? What happens after the installation is over?

more race missions opened up

did a few aborted one and drove to Chicago airport flew to Miami then flew to NYC the whole map is open to explore if you just leave a mission I did at least beat the Raid one first

Ocean State is northeast of the Bronx

Connecticut my home state got gimped :(

edit: Miami was enough to sell me on this game and the fact I was able to escape the story mode so early without issues

The racing is shockingly poor. I've been playing Driveclub and these cars just have no real weight at all. I understand it's supposed to be an arcade racer but similar games have far better car physics.

Also sick of the "working undercover" crap in every street racing game. Laughable attempt at a story.

Damnit,server/lost connection just as I cross the finish line in the race against Zoe...handling gets so much better after the whole barn intro and once you get a decent car...I picked the Mustang...liking the game more and more as I play, this isnt bad at all.

I don't think it's a good way to design a racing game by having shit handling until you do enough Ubisoft collect-a-thons and exp bar filling.

I am not sure why the other areas are so low quality

the servers being down has me a bit worried hopefully the Launch will not have DriveClub issues

I can see losing 100s of hours just exploring not racing

Probably the worst racer I've played in over a decade.

The game barely passes as a PS360 game graphically. The handling feels terrible, like you're driving on ice, even on dry pavement. I had heard the game was in rough shape, and expected it to be bad... somehow I still felt disappointed. Going to go play something better now, like ET on 2600, or Superman 64...

Test Drive U still has the worst driving imh but this game does not have any feel good driving this is for damn sure still want it tho hope they fix it some

I was super excited about this game. Having played it it just seems awful on so many levels right now.

The cherry on top is I finished the race with Zoey a while ago and it said it still had to finish installing from 77%. Well it just finished but apparently all the servers just crashed? Cool. All I wanted to do was drive over to New York or better yet just start there.

Yeah such a terrible idea. In a game where the only thing you can do is drive you should be able to actually drive. The handling is so bad. People say it can be fixed but I have no idea what to mess with to make it feel right. And I shouldn't have to.

Good to know it wasn't just me. I was almost finished with my trip around the U.S. when I got booted from the game. They really need to add in messages and such to let people know what's going on. If they were going to do maint., then they should have prepared everyone for it.

Still, I'll probably pick this up when it's cheaper. I think driving around and just seeing places like Las Vegas and Miami is worth a few bucks. I hate the story, though. It's completely dumb and is unnecessary. Just let people drive around and enjoy the world they've crafted. They gotta work on the handling, too.

They do.
Well I haven't played it to day but yesterday there was a big permanent banner across the screen for about an hour warning of yesterdays incoming maintenance.
Strange they wouldn't put it up today because the maintenance was announced on their forum.

Yeah, its a bit annoying. But im enjoying doing the challenges, and you can just click on them in the map and quick travel to each, you can get alot of upgrades for your car pretty quickly. My Camaro is a beast right now.

I just PM'd you brother! Have fun and enjoy! Be sure to post impressions!

So I got to play The Crew Beta thanks to 3rdamention! Now I'll try to write my own impression about it.

Right out the gate I was annoyed by the main title soundtrack, and few minutes later I decided to just turn off the music volume because I find the OST really bad overall.

The core driving mechanic itself isn't very fun. It feels very slippery and hard to control at times. It really feels arcadey but not in a good way.

The graphics are actually quite bad. Lots of jaggies everywhere it's distracting. It's not extremely bad, but it's nothing to write home about.

Also I think the game is trying too hard to be cool and edgy sometimes. I don't care about single player story anymore in racing games, just cut away the SP element and I'll be happy. The revenge story plot in this game just didn't do it for me.

Overall, I didn't enjoy my time with it. Maybe I'll give it another go next time but I dunno.

My early impressions

It's a game where racing is the main draw but the racing is pretty poor. I don't know how to explain it but the cars feel light. Something is just off with the controls of this game and graphically it is just ok. So far not liking it at all.

The game is growing on me, but serious question:

Is there a way to force a time of day change/hour change while exploring? The game time moves 1 minute for every 5 seconds of real time. That means it takes 2 full hours in real time before the game has completed a full 24 hour period.

I don't want to be exploring at night for every hour out of every 2. If someone knows a way to force a time of day change, please let me know.

Registered for an xbox one code, got sent a ps4 code, registered again last night for an xbox one code thinking I'd screwed up, got another PS4 code today. I don't even. Played the beta on PC, thought the game was very so-so, buut wanted to see what changes they had made.

A few things....

There is loads of wildlife and it varies depending on where you are in the country.Bears, bisons, cows, deers etc
Local radio stations would be great but criticizing a driving game because you can't hear the pedestrians speak is a bit weird.
Killing pedestrians whilst working for the cops would be a bigger immersion killer imo
Individual tracks can still be created and dropped into an open world.Nothing about an open world game stops you tailoring individual tracks for great races.

And I believe there is one or two real world tracks in the game the devs copied.

I agree about the graphics, now I wonder if they had made the game at a lower res if the could have made the graphics look better.
Good about the wildlife, I'll keep a lookout

I don't need specifically radio stations or talking pedestrians. Those are just examples from GTA that make the world your in feel alive.

For running over pedestrians, I think it would be better if they just had harsh penalties for hitting pedestrians. There aren't even that many of them walking around, so it wouldn't be hard to avoid them.

One the problems I find with open world tracks is that I'm constantly looking at the mini-map to make sure I'm making the right turn. I remember many times in Burnout Paradise and NFS Most Wanted where I missed a sharp turn because the route wasn't clear to me. I'd rather have tracks that only go one way.

This shit here. What happened to just racing because its fun. I dont want to solve a mystery, murder, or anything else, I just want to race damn it. I don't care about cops, criminals, criminal cops, or any of the crap that goes with it. Stop putting this tired shit in open world racing games already publishers! Its not that serious

You can fly to another part of the country where it is still day light :)

But no, you can't change the time of day. With it being all ways online it's the same for everyone.
I'm not a big fan of night time driving either.
At least the graphics don't look so bad in the dark!

Deleted it after 5-10 minutes.

'Boring' and 'ugly' are the two words I'd use to describe this game. Why would anyone want to play a PS4/XO racing game that looks like a ten year old game? I.e. Burnout Paradise looks better. And if you do make a game with terrible graphics, at least make it fun to play! In my opinion, this is not fun. At all.

This is starting to sound like From Dust again...

It's even worse...I'm playing on Xbox One and if i quick resume say after 10 mins it not only logs me off but when I go to log back on it freezes on the loading menu. I have to quit application and restart it just for it to work. Am the only one having this issue?

Handling model is terrible. Even in hardcore, it feels like the car is floating and it has no weight or inertia. Makes GTAV feel like iracing in comparison.
The graphics feel dated, but I can give it pass because of the scope of the game, it's a really big world, and the idea of driving across the USA is something I love, but the physics are so bad I don't think I can put up with them.

In the 8.5 hours since it first told me it was "installing", it's only completed 51%. Currently at 73%. jfc, this game... All I wanna do is drive around some familiar places and see how they are in-game.

Is anyone having issues with screen bounds? Info is getting cut off of all sides for me. I can only see the top pixel of the words on the lower-right of the screen (the ones below version buildblahblah, or "rsion" for me). I checked for an in-game setting but didn't see it, and I double-checked the PS4's display area setting. Screenshots look the same when viewed on the console but look fine when uploaded to Twitter. So that makes me think this may be a system issue? But I've never had trouble with any other games.

But, overall, I'm pretty happy with this beta.
It saved me $60.

Third time getting in the beta, this time on XB1. Hated it in the first 2, but I figured I'd download it to see if anything has improved.

Nope, handling model is still hilariously bad. I don't think anyone tested it with an actual wheel at Ubisoft. It's fucking terrible.

It's okay...the story is a cheesefest. The handing is off and drifting isn't easy to so in this. It's also aliasing especially if you see the damage, getting to city to city is tedious as fuck and that raid mission...how the living hell is a RUF not quick enough to catch a Raptor?

EDIT: Oh right the graphics, it's like this was a 360/PS3 but became a XBONE/PS4 game...badly.

The time of day for all players can't be true, because certain story missions automatically advance time to when they want you to race. So everyone MUST be at varying times of day.

so whatever car you buy next keeps the level of your last car or do you have to grind each car from zero?

From what I remember the levelling system is based around you as a driver. You unlock other handling modes as you progress (I think the second is level ten and is much better than the standard, but still not great). Also go to NYC as soon as you can and get the Skyline I found that to be the best car.

I think i've gone through all the story content in this beta, the next story mission is showing lvl11 needed, with the lvl 10 cap i guess thats it for now with ranking up.
You get to drive a Ford GT in the last mission
