The Crew Beta codes has been sent, post here your impressions

I have a EU PSN code and an Xbox One code. First few people to quote this telling me what they want can have them.

Me and my friend zig-zagged across the entire map, stopping at some of the larger cities and landmarks along the way. We started in New York and ended in Seattle. It took us 6 hours in total.

I was really impressed by the scope and detail of the map.

Briefly played yesterday. The huge map is the big selling point, but in every other aspect the game is quite disappointing, especially in the graphics department an the story. I like some cheese in my racing game, but that's definitely too much. I can listen to troy baker just suffering through the script.

Also what's up with teleporting me back to detroit? Let me free, maaaan...

Any fix for how any time I tap the brake my entire back end almost rotates around? The handling is really frustrating.

Played for a second last night before I got hit with the STILL INSTALLING roadblock, came back and played a few more hours today. MANNNN, I really want to like this game. The concept of having a truncated version of the entire US to drive sounded so nifty, but, I'm sad to say, the game just isn't very good. The driving feels sloppy and gross, the missions aren't fun and the knock-off Fast and Furious presentation is really goofy and terrible, even for Ubisoft.

Game is just an all around bummer. The only thing it succeeded at was making me want to play Burnout Paradise for another 100 hours to get the taste out of my mouth. Meh, I could see myself picking it up when it gets real cheap in a couple years, ignoring the campaign completely and just driving around to explore the (admittedly) pretty nice map.

I know some folks really really didn't like Test Drive Unlimited, but I really enjoyed that game a lot. There's just something awesome about driving around a place that you know and enjoying the sights. I kinda feel like The Crew should have been an extension of that game. Larger world to drive in, more houses and places to buy, lots of cool motor shows to join, etc. The addition of the story really takes away from what should be the main selling point of the game...to drive across the U.S. and visit all those places you haven't had a chance to go to. Going to Vegas at night in the game was pretty awesome to me.

They should have focused on getting the driving down and tons of cars to buy and own. Honestly, I'm not even against the leveling up system. Lots of potential, but ugh. I'll definitely be buying this game discounted.

The plan is to add weather at a later date.
With the way the game looks like it's going to be a complete flop though, I doubt they will bother.

A little bump in the visuals and some weather effects would do this game wonders... and i really hope their still tweaking the driving mechanics a lot from now to release, they should really put a lot of effort into tightening up the driving, it could make or break it once the novelty of the map wares off.

Very, very brief play today.

I can live with the graphics, really like the open world setting, no issues with the story but OMFG how bad is the handling? Absolutely dreadful. Had been playing Driveclub immediately before and the difference is night and day.

Will probably pick this up discounted and muck around with the open world elements and not bother with the story mode.

I drove from San francisco to New york yesterday in an almost maxed out Camaro ss(afew of the parts are still on lvl 9, with 10 being the beta cap). It took 42 minutes, and it got me thinking Cannonball races across the country will be epic. Have ubi said what the max player count per race is yet ?

Just arrived at the first HQ and I can't leave it to continue playing?

Was about to stop anyway because the game didn't click with me so far. I like open world racers and really hoped this would be good.
Unfortunately, it is not. The pacing is horrible, I don't need that cheesy story annoying me and Troy Baker's performance doesn't fit the look of the character in my opinion.
The graphics are not good and the racing didn't feel thrilling. The UI is a bad copy of the easy ride interface from Criterion and doesn't work as well.

This has gone to I may buy it to yeah I guess not.
The scope of the world sounds interesting so I will wait for more impressions. But right now, I don't want to play for myself to see if it will get better, which isn't a good sign.

Just gave this a quick play earlier on PS4.
I don't mind the visuals. The only thing that stands out to me is the handling, absolutely horrible first impression, it just doesn't feel good nor play well at all. Reading here, seems like it's better with later cars, but i'm not feeling it.

Was looking forward to this, but after playing this beta, it's standing as a no purchase for me now.

It's a bit...dull

Did a bunch of missions with Troy to get into the gang, then that got wiped out and I started over. Right now I'm level 11 and still don't even have my first tattoo. And there isn't enough variety in the events. Apart from basic races, escaping cops/gang members relies on randomness too much, and taking down another vehicle is also very reliant on luck. Was hoping that would be next gen Chase HQ but it isn't anywhere near. And the story isn't really interesting enough to want me to slog through the events.

The other collectables are fairly pointless too. The landmarks are laughable.

The little challenges that pop up as you're driving along are annoying too. When you finish, you get the results plastered over your screen while you are still trying to drive fast, but then you press 'continue' and it fades to black and you're at a standstill on the road again so it interrupts your flow anyway.

Switch your settings and play around with the brake and accelerator. I also got into the cockpit because that helps me some.

Yeah they added the fade to black for some reason. It wasn't like that before.

Garbage handling smh. Graphics aren't doing it any favors either but I assume since its a beta build that they are holding back to keep the file size low. Turning at any high speed just is the worse though. Guess I'll shift my focus more toward Project Cars or Driveclub (whenever Evo gets their stuff together).

Wonderful, even though I signed up for the Xbox one beta, they sent me a freaking PS4 code instead, just my luck.

Anybody got an Xbox one code? I'm more than willing to trade this PS4 code for it.

edit: They sent me two emails, dumbass me just noticed so I don't need that Xbox code anymore.

Since I ended up getting that Xbox code after all, I don't need this PS4 code so have at it, first come first serve

Enjoy!

The online part of this game hasn't really been working for me either, can never find any players for a multiplayer race, just keeps searching for players.

I found some right away using the mission thing(PS4)...couldnt figure out how to quit being with them after though lol...maybe its because I never played Burnout PAradise or TDU or the Horizon Forza's but I am really liking the levelling up and story missions and all in this game...

I don't mind the graphics or story. In fact, I actually enjoy these kind of 'stories' in racing/driving games. I also revel in customizing and tinkering with my car. The sounds are pretty good even though flaws do exist especially with the mixing.

Ultimately though, a racing game is absolutely useless if the driving model is sub par. The Crew delivers 'sub parness' in spades. It is confusing. It's hard to get a rhythm down. A modern Japanese sports car feels very similar to a retro muscle car. Weight, under/oversteer is all over the place.
I tried tweaking the sensitivity and linearity but all it did was band aid a serious underlying problem.

I'm sorry, but this is unforgivable.
I don't understand though. Isn't Ivory Towers made up of ex Ubi refelctions guys?
Driver San Fran was a terrific game with a great arcade handling system. What happened here?

I don't know if they can overhaul the physics with the game coming out so soon but something definitely needs to be done.

The game treats me like I'm some badass with ultimate driving skills but really I'm an awful driver because the cars handling is quite difficult. Sorta breaks immersion to me that the game treats me like I'm Mario Andretti but I drive like Mario Lopez.

So erm... I've played for half an hour.

All I can think of is 'I want to play Forza Horizon 2' or even GTA.

Is there anything I am missing?

Really poor so far.

I really hope they tweak the handling a lot before release because everything else I either really like or could easily forgive.

The blue currency is going to be the real life $'s microtrasaction one right? It's really 1:1 100% F2P designed, they're not even trying obfuscate it?

This thread is depressing.

On paper, this game has what I want - huge world with plenty of places to see and explore, good cockpit view, possibility to hide HUD, seamless multiplayer.
It's like TDU3 which I want.

But then there is the subpar graphics (compared to Forza Horizon 2 it really is a generation behind from videos I have seen), reportedly bad handling, bad story.
A shame. I will probably still get it for that exploration, but...seems like wasted potential.

On my phone so I can't type much but I feel like I'm opposite of everyone else. I'm really liking it. I got used to the handling really quick. The graphics aren't great but it seems like there's a lot to do.

Anyone else having overscan issues? Part of the HUD is cut off. There are no settings for it. Never had this problem on any other PS4 game.

If you liked TDU and were expecting this game to be TDU3, it's pretty close. Yeah if you compare the handling to any other competent racing game, it's way worse, but so was TDU's handling compared to something like Forza or PGR. As a TDU game, it's decent.

I think the main problem is that this isn't just about buying cars, it's now also about tracking down upgrades "Ubisoft-open-world" style and that means they make the handling really shitty at first until you do Ubisoft's collect-a-thon for parts, and then you get decent handling. So it becomes like TDU eventually and maybe it becomes even better than TDU later on, I don't know.

But overall, the "your car handles like shit at first" aspect will turn a ton of people off. You shouldn't make a racing game a chore to play until you unlock a decent amount of upgrades. And an Ubisoft-open-world racing game needs things to collect and they chose car upgrades as that thing you collect. And it makes the game suck in the early hours you play it.

I think it will be a decent game for a bargain bin purchase, but not $60. For me anyway.

You got to level 11? I though I was level capped could not win Troy's dirt race saw the dirt update at level 10 so I did jumps until I reached level 10 dirt upgraded my car but the Troy race still did not allow me to use my own car

the points I was getting for side stuff stopped counting so I thought there was a beta level cap

Maybe I just suck at the game, but I'm actually having a bit of trouble in the mission where you need to take down the car off-road by ramming it in 3 minutes.

Lets say you are right and handling is fixed by search and grind. It does seem more fun to drive the starter car the more parts I find for it

the graphics are not bad enough to give up on but man a world like this with the same shine and visual quality of DriveClub would be so exciting

now as you said Ubisoft's shitty starter car gimmick might have a fix

if you get the gold edition of this game you get 3 cars with full packs so I wonder if it means those cars handles great from you level 1

it might be worth the price for me, pay to fix shitty driving :(

I still suck at missions which is annoying enough for me to stop playing

he it is 52XP I should get so 10 ------> 11 should show 52/2000 not 0/2000

this is the kind of shit I would not want in a game I pay for so hope this is fixed for release

This game fails in two vital areas for me. The recreation of the United States is nowhere near accurate enough for me. My city isn't even in the right place geographically. And the other more important area is the gameplay. Driving in this game just isn't very fun. And that absolutely kills the whole thing.

Ubisoft screws with History all the time was never expecting them to get Geography right lol

Florida and everything about this map is screwed
