The Crew PC Beta Starts Monday July 21st

A question for anyone who has played:

Is Dallas a city you can drive to?? Its in the south.

Yep, saw it on the map, didn't look too big though.

I saw this on reddit yesterday.

Can't test it myself because Ubisoft has yet to send me a key.. Hopefully the above works for you, though.

Phew, thank you. And they hid the option pretty well, the UI is a bit of a mess anyway.

I stationed in Dallas at night before I logged out the last time I played. It's a medium sized city. Has Dallas been featured in any game as an open city before? There are 4 major cities, NY, LA, Chicago and Miami, 2 big cities, Las Vegas and Detroit, and a bunch of medium sized towns. LA is huge and a very good example is Miami - it's bigger than Vice City by a good margin. I think considering everything you'll like the size.

Edit: below medium size there's small towns like Salt Lake, and then finally tiny villages. That should give you some understanding about Dallas' context in the world.

Can't believe I just got a code.

Got it from the stream Bloodworth is doing

But damn, Uplay is bringing my internet to a crawl. It went down for like 5 minutes as it using all available bandwidth. I try to cap it in the program itself as my internet went back up, and it is still using all of it.

I had to limit it to half of my maximum speed to stop that from happening, pretty annoying but eh :/

okay this was cool

I do agree that it's a bit rough regarding the LODs, and it's been a bugbear of mine watching Twitch streams. Since this is a beta and we are looking explicitly for feedback and bugs, I'd be surprised if it was out of line for me to respond to this.

I'm certain there have been some improvements to this outside the closed beta build (which is a revision of maybe a few weeks old now). But if not, it will be something I'll be suggesting definitely. It's only very noticeable on very expansive vistas, where - as you mentioned - you see huge canyons and mountain ranges or cityscape LODS popping in very jarringly and it doesn't look so hot. It's to do with how the game streams in content via 'sectors' which are these square chunks that piece together the whole world. For some of the aforementioned areas that LODing needs to be more gradually streamed in instead of 'jumping' from a low res distant sector to immediately populated with all art assets.

the txaa doesnt seem to be working properly, i think the temporal filter is broken. is this a design choice or a bug? hopefully its a bug and will be fixed. this game has a lot of shimmering.

Opted in to beta. See that it's 15 GB.

Nope. And now I feel really bad for not giving it to one of you guys.

But to those that have played it, how goes the beta? All that we hoped for?

Was just reading this.
http://www.gamepur.com/news/15518-c...west-and-1080p-medium-high-video-setting.html

This can't be right or is one heck of a overestimate, i run a GTX480 and a Phenom X3 450 (unlocked to be an X4 though, but it still has no L3 cache on it), i can set every setting to its max bar the AA (as that take a massive hit at 8x) and it maintains the locked 30fps perfectly with not a single drop (as shown above, i drove from New York to LA).

No way does this game require a GTX580 and an X4 940 to get 1080p with medium/high settings, with that CPU and GPU people should easily get 1080p and Ultra settings.
That's probably what you need for a locked 60.

Don't know what it is with this beta, but after the controller issues, tried to play it again last night and it downloaded an update. Great, I thought, this might fix the controller. Nope, it made the beta worse. It doesn't display any graphics now - just a black screen with the audio playing in the background. It reacts to inputs, but I can't see what's going on so it's pointless.

Tried other games after this and they work fine, so it's not my PC. This needs some work before it's ready for release.

Got into the beta yestedays, playing with a a 360 controller and I don't have any problems. (Well, PC crashed one time). Played several missions so far, enoying it a lot.

Im playing with the 360 pad, had about 30mins play time until the nVidia driver crashed.

In a nutshell: (Yes i know its beta)
Graphics are crap but im not sure why. If you stop, the surroundings have decent texture detail (buildings), but cant put my finger on why overall it looks muddy and unimpressive. Road and pavement textures are shoddy.
Sound is awful - Cars and Sound tracks (Watch_Dogs?) There is 0 dynamic range and no LFE.
Car models are so basic, you can barely see their emblem.
Cockpit is nice - Grid level of detail, maybe a bit more. You have look back from cockpit like GT5 style where you see the rear seats.
Wheel option is there, havent tested yet.

This game so far feels like Need For Speed Rivals but really bad graphics.

Also in my time, i had no interaction with other players, just ramming the occasional player to see if they are alive.

You can skip the slowmo crash replay (thank god). I have no idea how it syncs with other people however, possibly they just see you car stopped at this point.

I play on a 720p Plasma, GTX 780, everything max settings and hold consistant 30fps without the card going over 800Mhz (1100Mhz is my overclock). VRAM usage was around 1500MB last i looked. I used 4xTXAA.

Verify the files (click on the arrow next to the play button). Uplay downloads almost always have issues with corrupted files.

Figured a bunch of codes would be coming out this morning. Maybe they did, or maybe they are.

davidsaurus - Have you given up your code yet? I sent you a gif. Hope you like cats.

I don't think so, these are the advertised beta requirements and not the final game requirements. In the beta the FPS is locked to 30fps unless you edit a file to change it, it wouldn't make sense to state specs required for ini edited settings (remember, those are also stated for medium/high settings).

I'm not to bothered about it to much as it nice that my specs are lower than the recommended, and yet i can get a lot better than what it states i should get, its just quite a bit of an overestimate

finally got a code.. but i have an issue loading the mission " a little nudge". the game just gets stuck at loading screen

Did Ubi released system requirements yet? I got the code, but I'm not sure it will work fine on my aged Radeon 6870.

edit - I will be fine

As i stated above, when it comes to the recommended they are a bit over the top for the GPU (at least for the beta), you don't actually require a GTX580 level card for medium to high settings at 1080p, a GTX580 level card should easily get full ultra settings at 1080p (my GTX480 can do this).

I played last night (shortly) and it almost feels like how FUEL should have been, only with a much bigger map and more arcade driving mechanics. I really can't wait to get home to play some more.

Detroit what?

Just got a key, so have at it people.

I've never quite understood the line 'If the key is already taken you will not receive a reply. Replies may take a minute or two.

Am I meant to get a message back from modbot? '

If you win you will receive a PM. If you don't win because someone else did, or already has won then you will receive no message.

Hoping I can get a code at some point today, will join the begging :P

It simply means only the winner gets a PM from modbot with the key (and that it can take a minute or 2), so if you enter a giveaway and a PM from modbot never shows up - you didn't win.
