The Crew PC Beta Starts Monday July 21st

I did state in my previous message that i recon the requirements are based of what you can set in game and not via a config file edit, as such due to the 30fps lock in the beta the hardware requirements (which are for the beta) are way over the actual hardware needed - you simply don't require a GTX580 (or even a GTX480) to run the beta maxed out (minus the 8xMSAA) @ 1080p whilst maintaining the beta 30fps lock.

I don't even like racing games that are locked to 30fps on console. To play a racing game on PC at 30fps is just insanity to me. And they do have a frame rate limiter in the options, so I'm guessing it will be able to do at least 60 on release. And if it doesn't, this game don't even deserve any sales. Locking a PC game to 30fps is the dumbest shit ever and should not be encouraged.

The fact that the game can't even maintain a solid 50fps with my 680 with a few settings turned down while looking kind of bland is pretty bad.

I'm getting weird black blocks flickering over my screen as well after the last update.
FXAA seems to cause the black boxes, or at least it did for me. I noticed it when I was going through the video settings to see which worked best. In the end I left AA on 4xMSAA and it was good.

Does anyone know how to play online? Hell, I thought this was an online only game. I haven't seen anyone in my game and I can't invite my friend.

Stuck at the black screen right after I start the game, The Crew.exe stopped working. I tried many, many things that people on the forums were saying (firewall stuff, remove peripherals, verify integrity, modify xml settings, etc) and nothing worked. Oh well.

i'm having a blast with this game. the car physics really remind me of TDU 1/2 though. hope they improve on that

The world is really well realized, and I love the living feel as you run across other players. But the car physics are really terrible. Like a copy and paste of TDU2, with no improvements, so I don't expect things will change between now and release. If they could get Forza Horizon or even a NFS feel to the driving, it would be absolutely great. But is it stands, I find it barely playable.

This game feels like a new version of Test Drive Unlimited 2 in ways other than just the handling too. The way the heat from cops works is similar to TDU 2, the finding car wrecks to unlock a new car was also in TDU 2. It even has a version of the stupid FRIM system from TDU 2. I am mostly bothered by the graphics, the pop-in is really bad and if it would be fixed even with the current graphics quality it would appear much better.

Not being helpful here but everywhere I went there seemed to be at least 4 or 5 people within a few hundred meters. Wasn't entirely sure whether they were AI or real people because it seemed so seamless.

I'm confused too, when I try to start a mission and hit Quick Co-op, I get "There are no players in your session."

Any help?

Think you have to invite people into your session. The game mentioned some player list, but I didn't bother trying it since I don't really care for the online component. Was glad that it seemed optional, in fact.

There did seem to be AI's roaming the streets though. I'm assuming they're AI's anyway since they were all typical american first names driving very safely.

If their nicknames are real names they are AI. Meaning, if their names are like John, Emily, Thomas etc. you're seeing AIs.

Yeah, imagine they were AIs but a few rammed into me headon like real players would so I wasn't sure :P

Any spare codes?

I would offer a Destiny beta code for the Bone or PS4, but I've given them away. So I am here cap in hand;p

Left the game on for a bit and players are starting to appear. Heard some people over mic. Guess it connects you over time...I think.

Yeah, my encounters with the AI have been like ricochetguro's. The AI drive recklessly in my opinion, just ramming to you with no regard for where they need to actually go. In races they seem oddly passive.

Hmm. The AI roaming the world did drive slightly more reckless than the random cars, but still rather safe and no ramming even when I stopped in the middle of the road to check something.

Races were a real mixed bag though. The first race I don't even think they had collision detection because I swear I drove through one a bit, lol. I mean that could have been a bug, I dunno. Outside of that the AI just seemed to ram into the random cars, rather than me.

Yeah I drove through an AI in the first race too. The freeroam AI is stupid, I stopped in the middle of the road to check the settings and an AI rammed into me and just pushed my car until I was out of its predetermined path. This beta makes the game seem real half-baked in its current state.

I'm having this really strange issue where every so often, whether it be during a cutscene or in-game, the video will freeze up and the audio will skip. After a while, the game catches up and everything resumes. Can anyone help?

Anyone else think this game isn't impressive at all? Driving doesn't feel natural at all, and it just feels weird seeing areas on the map like Niagara Falls, then you drive up to it, then the Falls aren't there whatsoever. All of New York State just looks like what someone who's never been to Allegheny Forest would assume that looks like. It feels like they built a few big cities, gave them some things, then decided to make the rest filler, just so they could say "You can drive all around the US!". I know I shouldn't expect my hometown to be there, but come on, they didn't even have the patience to copy and paste a small prefab town here and there.

If this is how the game is currently, I wonder what it was like when they were planning to release it last Fall.

Try browsing the official forums. What are your computer's specs and what settings are you using?

I won't be able to help you out now because I need to sleep, hopefully someone else here can.

I agree it doesn't feel too impressive, Test Drive Unlimited did the large open world better because it didn't have to be scaled down. The game's approximation of Pike's Peak is weird, if you're going to have real world landmarks at least make them appear realistic and high quality. At least it isn't quite as boring as the apocalyptic wastelands seen in FUEL.

You using the 60 FPS tweak? I get the same thing when it drops to 40-50 FPS in a cutscene.

It was doing that before I enabled 60 FPS.

Check that you aren't using TXAA? It made my framerate tank. If that's not the reason I've no clue, as you should be having no performance issues with that setup. This freezing is happening only in The Crew? There is no slowdown or anything in any other games you've played recently?

Couple questions for people in the beta. Are upgrade parts universal or do you have to unlock them for each car? Also have they said how many cars will be in the game? A handful? Dozens? More?

They seem to be car specific, or at least the game takes note of which car you were using when unlocking it. There's a handful of cars in the beta and the list on the website is small which is really disappointing.

It's not a performance issue. I put the settings on low and it still happens. Don't get the problem with any other games either.

this game has definitely grown on me over the course of playing this beta, at first i was a bit overwhelm with the scope of the game, but once you settle in an upgrade your cars it gets a lot funner :)

Looks like once it says "Okay go to St Louis" you're basically online. Up until that point I believe it's only solo. Actually, I really don't know because I was playing with a buddy and he was level 2. I didn't get to the part where it says to hit up STL until I was around lvl 4 or 5.

Blah I dunno what's goin on with this game ha.

I want to try the game on my laptop. Is there anyway to copy the files or am I going to have to download the whole thing again?

Definitely a valid question as I think Uplay may be the worst downloader I've used in the past decade. My connection is not amazing (20Mb) but jeez uplay was destroying my net. I could barely view a website (would take like 30-60sec to load a text site). I can download on steam at full speed and still watch youtube videos no problem. Even twitch, and browse any site.

I liked what I played so far. Only two bugs found yet:
- I can't put 4xAA without seeing a big black square on 50% of the screen
- When I start the game on uPlay, it freeze my computer for about 30-45 seconds (mouse stop responding). But after that, the game start and everything is fine.

And I don't think this one is a bug but: On the mission where you have to destroy a target truck with a buggy, I've crashed into a tree really hard and got a "Mission complete"... weird, haha !

Very Strange. When I first booted up the game I was able to run the game locked at 30fps with no dips at all with all settings maxed and 4xMSAA. I tried bumping it up to 8xMSAA just to see what it would dip to. It went from a locked 30 to ~15fps and then crashed the game. Since then the game has become unplayable no matter the settings. Even if I set everything to low/off I barely manage 24fps.

This game has the worst aliasing I've ever seen in a recent game. Looks terrible. No where near as good as the trailers. Nothing else is too impressive either to help the game standout. I honestly think Burnout Paradise had better graphics.

Running it on Ultra 1080p, and tried all available AA settings. Is there a way to downsample or force AA outside of the game?

Bold.
I can agree with that. Frankly the FXAA looks better than the 4xMSAA (it seems to smooth things a lot better), and it has a heck of a lot better performance to (obviously) - and the 8xMSAA is basically broken IMO.

Italic.
This i can't agree with. Burnout Paradise maxed out on PC still looks pretty decent, but to me The Crew easily looks better and it has a lot more going on to (try driving near an airport :D). For me the Crew looks almost like a mid way between Hot Pursuit and Rivals (when both are maxed out) - its by no means the greatest looking racer ever, but its a lot better looking than some are trying to make out.

As someone who downsampled Burnout Paradise from 4K yesterday to see how it held up: you're very silly. Game looks old in a way I wasn't expecting at this point.

Really having a good time. To me the game looks great and runs at a locked smooth 30.

Im impressed by the scale of the map.

The driving physics are a bit disappointing, but maybe I'll get used to it. Worked well during the offload portion of the opening.

How do you STOP this stupid beta from adding a Russian Keyboard(WTF?!??! UBI) to your system EVERY TIME YOU START IT!

I think for The Crews graphics some people really need to understand just how much this game has available and how it works, and then readjust what they are expecting in terms of visuals because of it.

This game has 6213 miles of roads (i think it actually may be more than this) and also all the open areas around those roads (basically anywhere you can see, i wouldn't even want to guess at the maps size in square miles), all this is available to seamlessly drive on after the initial loading screen. Just take that in for a second, after the initial loading you can driver the entire 6213+ miles worth of roads in one strait run and never see a single load screen, all whilst having a seamless SP/MP system on top of it - due to this you simply aren't going to get the most cutting edge of driving game graphics.

Considering how big the game world is and how it all seamlessly loads, its quite remarkable at how good it actually looks. Do i wish the game looked better at say Rivals (maxed out) levels of graphics?, dam right i do - but i fully understand why it doesn't.

Does anyone have benchmarks?

How much vram does the game use?--at 1080p--1440p
On my PC at 1080p with full ultra and just FXAA, it gets to around 1200mb of V-ram usage.

As for a benchmark, i drove from New York to LA and then from Miami to Las Vegas whilst having my computer usage displaying, I run a GTX480, 8GB of ram and a PII X3 450 CPU unlocked to be an X4 @ 3.8ghz - at the above setting i averaged 30fps with a minimum of 30fps and a maximum of 30fps, it basically never ever drops from the 30fps lock..
