The Crew (Racing Game) Announced by Ubisoft

It's essentially Midnight Club and Smuggler's Run merged into one game.

They said it is playable offline, with seamless online transitions. Think Burnout Paradise.

Not according to this.

"Our approach to that is this is a living world," Gerighty said. "We don't really see the point of offline. Did you ever play World of Warcraft? So World of Warcraft, you don't play offline. It doesn't mean you can't play by yourself—when I played World of Warcraft, I played it for about twelve months, single-player only, without talking to anyone. That's our approach."

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the car customization. He took that car apart piece-by-piece... if you can actually customize your car anywhere near as detailed as that it's a pretty huge feature. Really surprised no one mentioned it.

You sure? In this interview with the creative director he implies it's online only:

After my demo, I sat down for a quick chat with The Crew creative director Julian Gerighty. He told me, in no uncertain terms, that The Crew is always-online. Whether you play on console or on PC, you'll need an internet connection to play.

Driver meets Test Drive Unlimited.

Pretty much. Sounds like a good idea in theory. Demonstration looked pretty fun. I will put this on my radar.

Online only? Well...d...balls.

Seriously, there's no reason for that to be the case. TDU did this sort of thing in 2006. So that sucks. Stupid Ubi.

Wow, i'm very impressed by this game.

Being a customization nut, this looks very deep.

Really looking forward to hearing and seeing more..

Car handling and physics seem te be horrible. Cars are having rear wheel steering lol.
Nitrous is also a big turnoff for me.

Could be a nice arcade racer though, it does look pretty good.

The customization is amazing but since I'm not a nuts and bolts kind of guy I don't know how Ubisoft can make something that detailed fun. I feel like I need a mechanical engineering degree to tackle it.

Another thing that thrilled me at first but I'm more cautious about is their claim about driving within the entire USA. Since google pretty much mapped everything I didn't see this claim as far fetched, but then I saw the abstract map of the USA they had and disappointment started to creep in.

The difference in graphics between the game and trailer isn't a deal breaker for me but it's just another example of Ubisoft presenting one thing and delivering another which makes me cautiously excited for this game.

Part Reflections, part a new studio called Ivory Tower formed by ex-pats of Eden Games (TDU/V-Rally.)

Like cookies and milk, right there.
I saw the trailer then looked who did it... I'm impressed. And I loved Driver SF as well. But damn, TDU2 left a really sour taste in my mouth. Parts were great, but the lack of polish and general bugginess of it didn't do them any favours.

Hopefully they turn it around with this.

But man, I'm kind of over driving games shoving the whole "social" thing down my throat. I like the looks of Drive Club and this, but I don't always want to play games at the same time others do.

Uhm, The Crew is also coming to PC, can't believe nobody has mentioned this yet.

Game looks really interesting, like FUEL done right. I don't mind the online-only approach, as long as they use it for interesting and experience enhancing features and not only as an excuse for DRM. And so far the online features look really cool.

One of my highlights of this E3 so far.

Looks interesting. But I hope they actually implement car damage like the trailer shows. All those shiny cars are just bouncing off things like nothin' in the gameplay videos.

Is this game F2P? I cant find any info.

I liked it, because it reminded me Midtown Madness in many ways, but i wont buy it and many people probably too, but as a F2P it could be very good title, especially because it could be cross-platform. There would be no advantage of using m&k on PC vs pad and interface is easy, and this game definitely needs many players to be fun.

Game is using a heavily modified version of the Dunia engine from Far Cry 2, btw.
Loving your work right now, Blim! Somehow you're covering all the stuff I'm interested in ;)

BTW Sure it's Far Cry 2 and not 3? I don't know the difference between the engines of either game, but that's a fairly old base to be building off, I'd think.

Still, great little tidbit of information!

I'm not 100% sure, but this game has been in development for years now, so I would say it's the Dunia used in FC2.

I took the liberty to grab screenshots from the world map. Color me very interested based just on the world map alone. It's not as big as even TDU from what I can gather from these screenshots, but it IS bigger than 95% of racing games out there. It seems big enough that it won't get boring quick! Will be fun to explore every road :)

Great work -bakalhau-, map size looks amazing.

Looking for more information about the game I found this on The Guardian:
The size of the game's environment is the first asset that smacks players in the gob; apparently around 5,000sq km in size, The Crew's map features full open-world cities – we're told the city of New York alone is the size of Liberty City from GTA IV – and all of the back-roads, mountain passes, arid deserts and lush woodland that exist in between them.

World might be really large but I'm hoping it's not just copy-pasted assets moved around a little. In these sorts of open-world games, I have trouble differentiating places because it all looks so samey.

Promise looks insane. The most ambitious looking title with the Division. Driving feels way to soaping, not precise and reactive enough yet. Speed too but I guess that will come in the end game.

Infinite potential. Don't screw this up ubi

This is pretty damn close to my dream racing game. The one I'd make if I had my druthers.

Serious driving variety, open world, loot in the way of parts, total car customization, and Top Gear like challenges (point to point with asphalt vs off-roaders for example), and co-op through and through.

This is close enough :)

I liked what I saw during the conference but the graphics need a lot of polish. The premise of being able to drive around the whole US sounds cool(at least that's what I got out of the reveal), but I'm skeptical they'll be able to achieve this.
