Well, if the old SW trilogy versus the new SW trilogy is any indication--actors having actual set pieces they can interact with versus standing on a green screen stage and being expected to "get it" is not conducive to getting a great performance.

James Cameron also saw the value in doing a hybrid shoot for Titanic and AHBUHDAR.
