I was directly underneath the bridge, across from where they were filming. I'm not sure what that street name was. If you saw an extremely bright light next to the bridge, I was right there.

I said "falling" off the roof because they went over sandbags and fell maybe two feet onto a thick stack of padding.

I'm heading over to where I think you were talking about right now. I'll see if anything's going on.

No. Dude was barely present for TDK anyways, and it really hurt that score for me. The 50/50 partnership from BB was aces. You had JNH's subtletly and hauntingly beautiful tracks to balance out Zimmer's bombastic cues. It was a great mix. On TDK, it was more like 75/25 in favor of Zimmer, and on TDKR, its 100% Zimmer.
Zimmer pulled off some really beautiful tracks in POTC 3 (could've been in a better movie, but yeah), so he may get some of the softer stuff in Dark Knight Rises.

I walked around to the area where I think they were filming... all I really saw was a big black barrier that prevented anyone from seeing inside the tunnel where I'm guessing the action was taking place. Ooh well.

I'm obviously not going to bump one of the old Dark Knight threads for this, so in here it goes...

When an action scene goes bad: Jim Emerson meticulously dissects one of Nolan's chase sequences from TDK.

I watched ten minutes before shutting it off. While his analysis is good, he constantly undermines himself by saying 'Lines are cliche!', or 'Here, look at these quotes from reviewers who didn't like the movie! See, I'm not the crazy one!'

He's pretty much a high-minded version of this guy:

"In episode 2F09 when Itchy plays Scratchy's skeleton like a xylophone, he strikes the same rib twice in succession, yet he produces two clearly different tones. I mean, what are we to believe, that this is some sort of a magic xylophone or something? Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder."

Those that can (Nolan), make beloved billion-dollar blockbusters.

Those that can't (Nerd), bitch about beloved billion-dollar blockbusters.

Nah, Emerson just has a hard on for hating Nolan. He hates all his movies, and wants everyone to feel like he feels about him.

I remember he wrote something comparing Shyamalan and Nolan using The Prestige and Signs last year.

Man, that's one ridiculous over analysis.
I don't even like that entire section of TDK all that much, and would prefer it cut entirely. I am not a fan of car chases/action scenes involving cars in any sense.

Yea, I find Emerson pretty enjoyable except for when he goes off on Nolan. It gets pretty irrational and over the top trying too hard, like it's personal. I'm not even bothering to check out this video, but I remember when talking about Inception, he complained that Nolan used 8 frame to start his film to communicate info that could've be done in just two. I dunno how he knew Nolan's exact intentions with each individual frame, but he sure seemed like he had a long talk with the man and knew all of his intentions and didn't approve.

She's really not imo. She always looks like a goofy clown (the red lipstick doesn't help, this almost never looks good). I've seen maybe 2 or 3 shots where she looked attractive in a sexual way. Every other picture she looks like one of those girls you'd have as a friend because she's funny and sweet but never want to do anything sexual with because it would be weird.

If Nolan manages to make her as sexy as Pfeiffer in Batman Returns I'll eat some mighty crow but I don't see it happening. inb4 reference about people who thought ledger wouldn't be a good joker.

I don't understand how Anne Hatheway being hot or not could possibly be an issue. I think if you are looking for fucking sex appeal - go read the comics and jerk off to that shit cause you aint eva gonna see Catwoman the way your nerdy fantasy wants to in Nolan-verse. There was already Pfeiffer for that. I want a compelling story - not some chick to goggle at all movie.

Catwoman is supposed to be attractive though in a seducing kind of way. That's part of her character, she knows what she's capable of and takes advantage of all her capabilities. Anne Hathaway looks like a humanoid gumby. I picture her falling over sets and tripping everywhere she walks because she looks like the type to lack coordination and physical prowess which is the complete opposite of Catwoman. I don't care about goggling I don't watch Nolan movies for that either (although Scarlett Johanssen in The Prestige...omg...).

Fuck this Emerson ass hat. He talks as if he'd me able to make a better movie. This guy is over analyzing what is Nolan's style of directing. Who gives a shit if he thinks Dent was sitting on the wrong side or if Joker's truck/shotgun scene was too brief? Whatever ended up as the film is what Chris Nolan intended. Yes, dick weed, films use trickery. This nerd is a joke and his voice is incredibly obnoxious.

.

My thoughts on the video:

1. How do we know Dent wasn't asked to move to the other side of the car for better protection or something?

2. Agree that getting rid of the quick joker shotgun part would've made it more ominous for sure (and I actually kind of wish this was taken out now that it was brought up, taking out is a much better idea imo). However I like the shotgun part as it shows how careless/ruthless Joker is when it comes to people so I'd keep it in the movie but just put it somewhere else around this sequence.

3. The part where the bat tank flies up and blocks the rocket launcher definitely bothered me the first time I saw the movie. It was like um... wut. It didn't dampen my enjoyment of the scene or anything else but I could see an editor getting pretty annoyed by that kind of stuff and he has a point that these kinds of mistakes can't be let go imo, even though most movie goers don't care I'm saying if I was personally making the movie I'd feel like it would be a mess to keep it like that.

4. Almost all the rest of the stuff feels like nitpicking inconsistencies. Sure there's some spacial stuff that doesn't make sense or things that are flipped and end up wrong like the van going into the river on the wrong side, but it's not something that drastically alters what's going on imo. If you're an editor I suppose you'd notice this stuff more but even if Nolan found out some of it was wrong it probably cost way too much money to re-do scenes just for the sake of continuity. (Kubrick would've done this though since he's the boss but Nolan is making a great action movie not necessarily the next 2001).

you sound really butt hurt over this guys video. you don't have to watch it, nor will his input have any affect on DKR.

chill bro.

Dude, it's not like this is the first instance of bad editing in a Nolan movies. His films do have flaws and editing action is one of them.

Ah, the old "critics don't make movies therefore nothing they say is valid." I'm sure the people saying that are all successful filmmakers themselves.

Edit: Watched it. Some of them are nitpicks (Harvey's position in the car is established when he gets in and can be assumed never to change) but overall, he's right that the direction and location of elements doesn't flow at all. The scene is a clusterfuck at first watch, I thought that the first time I saw the movie. It's a known problem with Nolan. I shudder to think what Emerson might do with the ice prison sequence from Inception.

I don't understand the logical application of the new vehicle in Nolan's world. It was difficult enough with the Tumbler... but this? How many engineers, scientists and weapons researches did it take to build that thing? How many contractors, companies, and government agencies put money into it? And he just flies it on the street like nobody will notice? Maybe it's because he painted it black... or maybe he'll just pay Mr. Reeves to tell all his friends to keep their mouths shut, or maybe he'll go out and save all their lives in intersections.

Really?

After the Tumbler's "stealth-mode", you're surprised about this?

You mean where Batman turns off his lights?

...It's just hard to buy, that's all. At least I feel that way within the perimeters of the Nolan universe or whatever it's called.

Batman barely works in Nolan's version. The plane is just another detail that will be glaned over with a quip from Morgan Freeman.

Hey Batman!
Find Batman for us!

Only Batman can find Batman.

What? That sounds terrible. I thought Nolan was all about practical effects.

This ...
and I trust Nolan when he uses CG - he seems to have good quality control. Only thing iffy was the train in Batman Begins, but that was awhile ago.
