The Dark Knight Rises' Oscar Hopes

I feel like I really missed something with TDKR, it didn't seem like a good movie at all. The plot was bad, and the little action there was wasn't anything special. Honestly looking past the high budget gloss, it was kind of a bad movie.

Not a chance in hell this will be nominated for anything outside of some technical awards, MAYBE.

Argo is my go-to pick for the Best Picture nominated Blockbuster.

I don't think TDKR even has a chance at the tech awards. Maybe noms, but no real shot at winning.

Say what you will about the overall movie itself, it's still a technical marvel. I'd expect cinematography (people in the industry are still impressed with what Pfister does with IMAX), sound, effects and maybe production design, perhaps even editing. But yeah, I don't expect it to be a big winner. Although it could still get the "last movie" recognition for the series as a whole.

And again, people are taking this way too seriously. You're gonna see ads exactly like this for FAR WORSE movies before the awards season is done. Alice in Wonderland had ads saying, "For Your Consideration in ALL CATEGORIES." Alice in Wonderland for goodness sakes.

And far worse movies are going to be nominated.

As I said in the TDKR thread. These are the Oscars we're talking about people. They are not about film quality. TDKR's chances at a nomination have little to do with how good or bad the movie actually is.

I thought TDKR was great but there's just no way it's getting a nomination considering the competition this year. Argo, Lincoln, The Master, Django Unchained, Zero Dark Thirty, and there's probably others I'm forgetting.

Super hard and incredibly close. Or whatever that movie was called.

I honestly don't think Pfister has a chance in hell of getting a cinematography nom this year.

Les Mis, Anna Karenina, The Master, Skyfall, Lincoln, Life of Pi and Django alone will all give TDKR a run for its money on the cinematography side of things.

It might get a concession nomination for BP, but that's it.

And I liked the movie, in spite of its many flaws.

The Academy really blew it with TDK though.

Not really. Can you really say it deserves to be nominated more than the other five films? Maybe the Reader. But I would've put in the Wrestler instead.

You are gunna do dis for evry movie now?

I hope he does it for ASM, just so we can enjoy some more of Dagger's antics.

The only reason it would get a nom is to "apologize" for TDK not making it.

If a big budget film gets a nom, give it to Skyfall.

It's definitely a crowded field this year. I just think there's still something impressive about seeing TDKR in a true IMAX that no other movie this year quite reaches. Skyfall gets pretty close with it's IMAX presentation though, I'd easily say that's my favorite for a cinematography win.

Considering it was easily one of the most revered movies of its decade, and that no one is sitting around discussing Frost/Nixon or Milk four years later, and that the Oscars changed their entire nomination process based on snubbing it...I'd say yes. They fucked up in not nominating TDK.

.... What. One of the most revered movie of its decade?!? Since when? By who?
