The Darkness: The Official Thread

I finished the game 2 days ago.

Good things:

- Story, really cool shit here, and some of the story telling made me smile, like the real time flashbacks
- Gameplay, guns feel good as do the powers

Bad Things:

- Animation could be better
- Walking on empty streets blows
- Maybe too short, i kinda felt my 70e could've been better spent

I really liked, but the value factor kinda left me a bit unpleased somewhat. And the ending rocked, garnnet and whatever don't know what they are talking about.

I am interested in buying this game after playing the PSN demo, some questions:

* Is there a open world of sorts, not huge and expansive but kinda like you can roam freely?
* Are there a lot of cartoons and movies in it? Are they in full and is it true that it is a PS3 exclusive feat, I read that somewhere....
* Are there a lot of sidequests?

You can roam around a couple of subway stations and hit any of the above ground areas whenever you want. It's still pretty limited though.

There are quite a few old movies and various other stations you can tune in. PS3 has more content.

There are a good number of side quests, but most are some variation of a fetch quest.

Just finished it. I would recommend renting this instead of buying it, unless you really get into th insidiousness aspects of the game.

Game had pretty damn good graphics, and the cut scenes during loading were cool as well. The voice acting as also top notch. Not a bad game, but unsettling to say the least.

I liked the videoclips playing in some music channels. The first time I listen to it, I take some time to figure where the sound is coming from.

Finished the game yesterday. Really liked it. Wish Starbreeze would patch the game and fix the lag in the multiplayer. Could be fun for some fast and furious action when you're looking for it. A few questions.

A) Can you get the multiplayer achievements in Player Matches?

B) I heard there is a comic series being launched based on Starbreeze's version of The Darkness universe. Has it started? Any more info?

I played some of this a few months ago, got it for 10$. Loving the graphics, but the framerate oh god! Atmosphere is awesome and so are the darkness powers. I am liking this a lot, really underrated game imo.

Why did I think this was a comic game rip off? Although I hate the gunplay I love playing around with darkness powers. There's just something really satisfying about crawling behind an enemy and ripping their faces off. I just finished
WW2 / Hell
section and I definately didn't see that coming.

Also, Patton <3

The most underrated game this gen imo. Brilliant story and atmosphere along with great gunplay. Time for a replay.

I agree. Even with a sub standard graphic in terms of quality it has been one of my favourite FPS of this gen.
It has a good and solid story/narration to follow and few really good ideas regarding the gameplay.

I advice to anyone to give it a try.

I don't quite co-sign the sub standard statement. If it weren't for the lack of AA I'd be hard pressed to tell that the game came out so early this gen. Especially the texture work is top notch. What really give away the game's age, in my opinion, are the small confined areas. Here I was just finishing
Turkish Baths
and, hell, the area was about the size of my rental apartment. And I'm not living in a very big apartment.

And I really am not feeling Kirk Acevedo's performance at all. Voice - Face mismatch or something :|

The Darkness is on sale on Xbox Games on Demand for $14.99 (Darksiders and Prey are also on sale for the same price).

BTW, yes I'm sure you can get a used copy for less then that but some of us prefer digital so just thought I'd share.
