The Deuxcision: LeBron opts out, not one, not two but three teams.

How can Melo force a sign a trade? He's not even a current contracted member of the Knicks, since he opted out of his contract, so there's not much forcing he could do - if he only wants to sign with a team, he can do so freely as long as they have the money to pay for it. Melo can go to Chicago right now...for $15 million after amnestying Boozer, and more depending on how much of the team's depth it's willing to throw away.

It's already been said "no Boozer in any sign and trade", so we don't even need to speculate on why he should take Boozer - it's just not happening. If somehow it was a secret Zen Illuminati smokescreen and really the Knicks would literally help a conference rival sign their star player away for less money than they'd have to pay themselves to retain him, why would it be for anything less than consumption of most of Chicago's assets? Because people won't deal with him if he doesn't help them?
Neither was LeBron in 2010, but salty Dan Gilbert still allowed a sign and trade to take place because that's where LeBron was headed.

I know all about that ESPN article, but it's Broussard and his multiple sources, and even there he claims that NY might still take Boozer as a last resort. The last resort being of course that Melo wants to leave and will sign elsewhere as a free agent.

I'm trying to figure out why these guys even opted out if they were just going to ask for money that would make it impossible to sign anybody anyway. They must not have understood how the new CBA works.

They probably are asking for less. How much they're willing to sacrifice is the kicker, especially when they're clearly going to get ridiculous offers (See: Houston's SuperMAX offer for Bosh)

28 ppg and couldn't get the Knicks to the playoffs in one of the weakest years in recent Eastern Conference history.

What about every year of his career before that, including being in the West? Melo isn't a selfish player...if he had the pieces I'm positive he'd be ecstatic to let other people take the load off of him.

Edit- That Mcroberts deal is desperate as hell.

I think the plan was for them to take less money. Lebron wanting the Max and Bosh not wanting to take 10-12 mil a year might have been late developments.

Lebron didn't force his way to Miami.
He wasn't employed by CLE, he left to MIA, and MIA got a TPE for their trouble after the fact when "salty Dan Gilbert" made it into a sign and trade to at least get the TPE instead of absolutely nothing. In that case, MIA had the cap space to do so. Chicago doesn't. They can't offer a 22M TPE to NY. They can offer some picks and Boozer + filler to make up the difference...but NY doesn't want Boozer, so CHI will need to include ALL picks and filler instead.

Like I said, there's absolutely no reason for NY to help hurt themselves if it isn't completely to their benefit. Either they retain their star player, they fleece a team who can't pay him outright and help themselves, or that player loses 30 million dollars in a hot FA market betting that Phil Jackson is worse than wherever else they go. No other options.

The amount of cap space is determined by how much the Big3 are willing to sacrifice. Riley has the largest pool potentially to work with, but only if they sign for less, because their cap holds are prohibitive. If they want to add a 10M quality player, they have to free that much with their demands. Pat wouldn't be going onto it blind. He's going to know how much wiggle room he has to work with. That's what he's doing now. You didn't hear anything about some signings in the past, like Lewis or Birdman, until right before they happened. Hell, Lewis got broken by the nurse who gave him his physical. Nothing can be done until the 10th. Might as well give Pat until then before questioning his acquisitions. I mean, it's Pat Riley. Dude will do the best he can with the situation. He's made a career of it.

On that note, Bron is on UM campus shooting a McD commercial, and the streets are tweeting that McBobs was was at Sports Grill with Fizdale today. I only mention the second one because it would fit in with what I was saying. You don't hear much Heat news until right before it happens. We'll see though. Twitter makes free agency new a joke. PEACE.
Just had to pat myself on the back. I haven't followed off season NBA news until the Big3, but this has been how it's been the entire time. We won't know anything until it's about to happen. PEACE.

McRoberts? Is that the dude who choke-slammed Lebron in the playoffs. Haha, oh man. Free Agency is nuts.
Pat Riley: So, Lebron. While you were away I have been busy trying to build a team you want to come back to. First I started by publicly calling you out to the press. Creating an unnecessary friction that could damage our relationship. I'm told that Bosh is considering taking a max from Houston and Melo seems unlikely to come here anymore. That Shabazz guy you made me get seems like he isn't going to be worth shit. For my finale I signed a middle of the road non-difference maker that choke slammed you in the playoffs.... So Lebron, do I have your commitment?

But I drafted your undersized buddy you pimped on Twitter!

I don't really like McBobs since he was a Pacer, but I understand he's a good fit for us. Welcome to Miami, Carolina Jesus! We already won! Hey rest of the league, you still trying? PEACE.

Worse things have happened, so we'll see.

The fact that Melo hasn't committed yet with a super max on the table has to be trouble for the Knicks. A sign and trade could be getting worked on as we speak.

Uhh.....

Free agent Danny Granger has agreed to a two-year, $4.2 million deal with the Miami Heat, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

Welp

Seriously, if I didn't know better, I'd think Riley was trying to piss off Lebron by signing the dude who forearm shivered him in the throat and the guy who tried to start a fight with him

Yoooooooo! Granger too? WTF? That's actually not s bad haul so far. Eat it rest of the league. We're winning s championship next season. PEACE.

That Granger signing is a great deal for the Heat. I can see him contributing... when he's healthy.

Even if a sign and trade happens, Melo can't get 5 years and he can't get more than what the Lakers offered.

So again, the only benefit to the Knicks for doing this is getting everything CHI has. Melo can't get a 5 year deal with sign and trades in this current CBA. He also can't get more than 100M. And in doing this to "help him out", he would need to completely gut the team he's being traded to, making the situation as bad or worse than the one he's leaving in the long run (and in the short run in the event that Rose isn't Rose after being Penny Hardaway'd).

I know worse/stranger/more unexpected things have happened, and I know we'll see...but at least these are the facts.

If the Heat keep Lebron and Wade, and then use Bosh's money to improve Wade's backup (Stephenson?) and their big man/bench situation (McRoberts, Granger, keep Ray Allen, hope Napier is better, pick up an additional PG or something), they might be better off.

He said something to the effect of, if he leaves it shows he doesn't have to guts to stay.

This to me seems like a worth while deal. But are the Heat reaching? Like why so many annoucements so fast?

Why are people acting like Granger signing is a big deal?

Also, no coincidence the reports of Lebron's face-to-face this week is supposed to happen right after these announcements.

Tongue in cheek. He's better than the corpse of Battier. It's automatically an improvement. PEACE.

If the Heat sign a bunch of dudes, I have to assume they're expecting to resign the big 3 (since they wouldn't be able to have the mid-level/bi-annual if they weren't over the cap to begin with...and to be over the cap, they'd need to have re-signed the big 3).
