what the fuck is so revelatory about "off tv gaming"? it makes the unit a handheld for console games -- and which specifically is the COMPLAINT many nintendo dirtpeople have about sony handhelds. BUY A VITA

"gamers" assessing a platform based on screenshots and not gameplay is a sadder one.

Those are some pointed quotation marks there, sir! Crikey, they'll have someone's eyes out. That they use. For a visual medium.

Vita's cool and I want one, but its problem is that it's too expensive and has no future from what I can tell. Wii U despite its warts (and despite being overpriced too) will have some quality Nintendo games. I'm not even sure Vita will be supported a year from now.

Yup, same here. The only Nintendo systems I've owned were the SNES and GBA; I'm a Sony man and have owned every one of their systems (including PSPGO) multiple times over. The WiiU I'm actually somewhat interested in but I can't even be arsed to cock my head sideways at Vita when walking past a demo kiosk.

At least with the former, I know there will be content that can only be experienced there. Sony has done nothing to convince me that Vita will get anything more than warmed over ports that I'd enjoy more on my PS3. Gravity Rush is the only game I have any interest in and I'm confident it'll get ported to PS3 eventually.

Still having to rely on the same old non-collison, no-AI, Zelda tech demo gifs approaching a month after the console has actually launched is a pretty sad state of affairs isn't it? To not have one game in there that really shows off this new box's power is just so weird when the system should have launched last year or Spring at the latest.

Well, that's how things go and we know the reason for it:

- Current-Gen-Ports
- Zombi U started out as a X360 - game and got changed three times
- Pikmin 3 started out as a Wii - game

Nintendo Land and Wonderful 101 are the only "real" Wii U - games currently and both look very good, but most people choose to ignore this because of the art-style.

Rayman Legends looks also good, but Origins did too, the art-style doesn't allow big improvements.

When the Vita came out we saw endless threads about how awesome it was. Yet, when the Wii U comes out, I tend to see very little but negative reaction from people who don't even own one.

Perhaps this is a drunk thread, but I'm genuinely concerned. People want to have fun with the consoles they buy. I saw thread after thread about how awesome the Vita was in adversity to sales numbers and perceived lack of titles available for the system. Yet, in the last week I've read so many so many negative Wii U posts.

Yes, some are legitimate. It has a slow OS, and the tablet has a weak battery. I really would like to buy one once I can scrounge up the money, but I'm not seeing much evidence.

If I listened to anecdotal evidence from my friends, I would have never bought a Vita. If I listened to the general consensus of GAF I might not buy a Wii U. Perhaps I'm just looking for a reason, or some confirmation. I want to have fun, I want to have a unique experience.

Sales aside, battery life aside, wifi distance aside, lockups aside, is the Wii U fun? Please, you guys convinced me the vita was worth it wherewithal the negatives aside, what's the deal with the Wii U?

Ummm.....

I disagree with this entire assessment.

The Vita had a decent launch - but it seems a lot of GAF - were hoping for overall better performance from Vita. The Vita was, in theory, supposed to right some 3DS missteps and attract gamers enthusiasm. Prior, the 3DS wasnt selling all to hot, a lot of people were proclaiming "doom" on Nintendos handheld. Nintendo stepped up suppprt (in Japan, at least lol) and stole Vitas thunder.

Shortly after Vita launched, not selling through JP inventory, negarivity began to spread. When that systems sales began a downward descent, in all territories - its been a nightmare on GAF. Every week, gamers would post memes about its failure, threads about its failure and people (who have never used one were parroting what they read)turned their backs on the system. A lot of core Nintendo fans also seemed to take their wrath they endured over 3DS out on the Vita, with a lot of glee. It still goes on, all the time.

I don't know where you've been, to think this is new for WiiU?

Enjoy whatever system and think for yourself.

Well if all you can bring to your hardware launch period is a bag of excuses, I don't think GAF and the internet's somewhat sour reaction can really come as a surprise then, can it?
