Man, this was one wild movie! Way more fun than the first outing with crazy violence, gore, and action pieces (jesus christ at the opener alone!)! Lots of humor, too, in the "down-time" scenes with one-liners and jokes. Loved it when they referenced lines from their own past movies!

A straight up guy flick with testosterone cranked up by a factor of ten, Expendables 2 was a straight-up riot and good time!

The close-quarters-combat-shaky-cam that was in the first Expendables was gone in this one, thank god. Some minor quibbles first: The asian girl's acting wasn't the greatest, but it is what it is. Some of the cgi was hokey, like
in the mine scene where Arnold enters. There are a myriad of other scenes that use big set pieces where the cgi becomes extremely noticeable.
And aside from some noticeably bad cg blood and
no Jet Li in the final fight
the movie was everything I expected it to be. The action and one-liners were fantastic.

Chuck Norris was great, too. I loved the
airport scanner kill.

Also, Seagal needs to be in the next one. If they go on and film a third one, there's no other action star that makes more sense to be in the film than him.

rumours state that they are asking about getting Clint Eastwood and (finally out of jail) Wesley Snipes to the next one :D

I hope Kurt Russell gets his head out of his ass and joins too :D

Hehe, just remembered that Chuck Norris was obviously having fun as he's just smiling in every scene :D

The only complain about character usage i had with this was not with Couture but Scott Adkins
didnt have much to do besides hangaround even though the final battle against Statham was pretty solid.
And spoilers about the ending:
Just hoped Statham would have uppercutted him in the air against the bigger blades :D

Supposedly he's an over the top certified cock sucker and no one want to work with him. Besides he has an over the top tv crime drama now where he play a certified cock sucker. Not that I wouldn't like to see him in the next one, but I doubt it will happen.

Plus I believe Seagal doesn't get on with the producer. Van Damme doesn't get on with Seagal either (dunno if they still hate eachother but they did nearly (?) get in to a fight a while back). So yeah, not looking good for Seagal's chances.

Had points sitting in my account on xbox live. Decided to download the Expendables game. Stallone's voice "actor" is fucking LOL worthy.

It's crazy how much better this film is than the first one. Without Stallone taking the reigns as much as he did on the first film, it wouldn't have gotten made. Once it was a success, he was smart enough to step back and hand stuff off to other people. So the first film, as flawed as it is, really paved the way for this one to be as good as it is and I can respect that.

It takes a humble man to admit his faults and delegate work to others who are better suited for the job. Sly should teach Lucas a thing or two about admitting one's own failings, lol!

I think the first one doesnt get made if Stallone doesnt pull triple duty. People always seem to doubt the guy. I remember people laughing at the Rock Balboa trailers. But that turned out great. In no way do I think he had a grand vision for this franchise ( wanting to cast JCVD in that lame Gary Daniels role for Part 1) but he was able to get enough things in place for that movie to be surprisingly successful. And now look, they made a better sequel. A much better sequel.

People can say this is what the first one should have been and I cant disagree more. When the team first appears, driving over that hill, the adrenaline started pumping. 1) Because of the energy of the scene and 2) because I know these guys..I have a whole other movie where I saw them do a bunch of crazy shit. I like that this is an actual sequel too, where events and non-team characters play into the plot of the second one. I dont like when movies are PART 2s or "Movie Title:Subtitle" but they stand completely apart from the previous movie. Now, Im not implying you NEED to see Part 1 to understand EX2. Not at all..but if you ar familiar with it, they really do tie together nicley.

It was magical and everything I could possibly want. Chuck Norris was gold and everything with chemical engineering.

Damn. Yesterday my German Punisher Lundgren DVD came in from Germany with the workprint version, but it'll keep. It'll keep.

Hyped to see this now. Wasn't a big fan of the original, but still enjoyed it for seeing all of those guys together on the big screen. Glad to hear this is a much better movie.

Just read an article that the early buzz could get this thing to $40 million this weekend.

Sure hope so. The original movie didn't live up to its potential but they really nailed it this time around. I'd like for this to be a huge success.

Just got back from this and I loved every minute. Awesome unnecessary over the top violence and gore with cheesy dialogue and bad puns.

Van Damme was a great villain. Chuck Norris telling a Chuck Norris joke=fantastic.

Can't wait for tomorrow.

Should be added to the OP:

Testosterone-fueled The Expendables 2 -- featuring a who's who of action stars -- might not be able to match the $34.8 million debut of the first film, but it's still widely expected to win the weekend crown and bump The Bourne Legacy from the top spot.

By early Friday evening, Expendables 2 was trailing the first Expendables, which opened on the same weekend in 2010 and quickly transformed into a sleeper hit after grossing $13.3 million on its first Friday.

Estimates show Expendables 2 grossing in the $11 million range on Friday for a weekend debut in the $28 million to $29 million range. The film could catch up as the night and weekend progress.

Ok, so the first movie was an absolute embarrassment of gargantuan proportions, completely outclassed in the action department by SCOTT PILGRIM that released the same weekend, never funny and that one dreadful monologue by Mickey Rourke at a failed sense of pathos before shaky cam boom-boom-bang.

Is this one any less bad for someone who enjoys these action heroes but wished they were in a better movie?

Was great, much better than the first one. Lot of self aware humor and a lot more action with no shakey cam or constant quick cuts like the theatrical cut of the first one. It is exactly what it set out to be, just alot of dumb action fun of old school proportions. Theres a few meh dialogue scenes though they kinda have to be there to set up later parts of the movie, but unlike the first film they keep a good pace going with having lot of action scenes. The opening is pretty much more action than the entire first movie almost.

Spoilers I guess...

Theater had a decent crowd at an early showing today, but people were cheering at pretty much every single moment Chuck Norris was on screen. And also was surprised since after all these months so many thought it was Jet Li that was gonna die off in this film since we knew he was barely in it. Was pretty predictable when they gave all that focus to Billy though early on what was really going to happen.

Dialogue felt like it was written by a fifth grader juiced on mountain dew. Seeing these grown ass men deliver these god-awful, awkward lines was incredibly cringe worthy and little embarrassing.

That aside, holy hell what a friggin blast this was to watch! Highly recommended to anyone who's a fan of the shlocky action movies back in the 80s.

Biggest problem with the first one was the slow middle part when it tried to go all story and politics on ya.

Should i be worrying about this for 2?

No they paced it out much better. Theres many more action sequences spaced throughout this one so you don't have that big boring gap the first had

I'm planning on seeing it tomorrow. How was JCVD and Chuck Norris?

Fucking perfect. Chuck Norris has the most badass intro you can imagine.
He quickly kills about two dozen bad guys, blows up a tank, and then recites a hilarious Chuck Norris fact.

This movie was everything I expected and more, much better than the first.

What is up with
Jet Li
though?
He was in the film for a total of 5 minutes...

I thought the first one was a bland, boring piece of shit.

I didn't want to see this one, but got dragged to it by my friends.

And I've got to say that...I loved it. This was everything the first should have been and more. Just an amazing action flick with tons of in jokes and nostalgia.

Norris and Van Damme were amazing too. I wish Van Damme had been in it more, though.

The third one really needs to assemble an evil team of mercenaries as the main villains. It's lame when it's the whole expendable team vs. one super villain, his lackey and a bunch of mooks.

Just got back from Red Meat and Expendables night. Movie was a hell of a lot of fun, but the ending seemed a bit abrupt. It just didn't have the build up to a finale like the original had. It just seemed to end. And that last fight was way too short.

For the next one they need to get a better fight choreographer.

Best kill in the movie:
Crews swinging the guy face first into the pole. Followed closely by "one guy left."

Just got back from seeing it and hoooooooly shit that was awesome. Awesome kills, awesome pacing, awesome cast, and most importantly, awesome one-liners. Was marking out like crazy during the action scenes. Easily my favorite movie this year. Can't wait to see it again tomorrow night.

Feel asleep during this pile of horse shit.

What did you expect going in?

So this movie redeemed the first one, huh? I guess I will check it out this weekend.

I really enjoyed the first one but this one was on a whole different level of great. If you're fond of 80s/early 90s action movies then you really owe it to yourself to see this in theaters.

I saw it in the morning.

Theater was pretty much empty except for few old people with white hair. No crowd enthusiasm whatsoever except for laughter here and there.

What was
Chuck Norris's fact joke? While I was watching I thought to myself how funny it would be if Chuck or Sylvester recited Chuck Norris's facts and asked if he was hung like a horse. But reading the spoilers I see they did use Chuck Norris joke. Just not sure which one it was

Chuck Norris was bitten by a king cobra. After five agonizing days, the cobra died.

It went something like this:
Stallone: Rumor has it you got bitten by a king cobra a few years ago. Is that true?
Norris: Yeah. After five days of excruciating pain, the cobra died.

Best kill in the movie:
Crews swinging the guy face first into the pole. Followed closely by "one guy left."

So many amazing kills in this movie. My favorite was
Norris killing a guy on the airport baggage check conveyor belt and his bullet-riddled dead body going through the x-ray machine and setting off the metal detectors.
