The Game Awards 2016 Nominees announced [Update: Full list in OP]

If last December game can get nominated, where is Seige? It's like the only game Ubi made that is close to GOTY.

I don't have too much complain about the nominees. Just please don't let UC4 win. Walking simulator with so-so story must not triumph over actually good gameplay.

Why did they already announce the nominees? Why aren't the voting opens until December 1st an hour prior to the show? This will never make sense to me.

My selection :

Best Narrative : Oxenfree
Best Art Direction : Firewatch
Best Independent Game : Stardew Valley
Best Action/Adventure game : Hyper Light Drifter
Best RPG : Xenoblade Chronicles X (since it seems it counts...)

Others nominees for the others categories don't fit my tastes.

And now I realise I've been mostly playing indie games this year.

Doom 2016 is an easy choice for me. Pure exhilaration. I haven't gotten around to Inside yet though. I definitely intend to since I loved Limbo.

For me it comes down to Uncharted 4, Titanfall 2 and Inside. I love Overwatch and DOOM, but as a story guy I would leave Overwatch out, and though DOOM is amazing, I feel that it didn't leave a huge impression on me after finishing it. I played it, had a great time, and then moved on without thinking too much about it afterwards.

I've played 3 out of 5 games from the main category - Doom, Uncharted and Overwatch and while all three were excellent I think I enjoyed Uncharted 4 the most. I'm still waiting for a sale for Inside and gonna hold my TF2 purchase until next year.

I also find it quite fascinating how 3 of 5 GOTY contenders released in the span of 2 weeks in a May.

Ask hollywood. They do it all the time. Both games have gone gold or would have gone gold by December 1st. Critics get to play the game early anyway.

no is not the same

you want them to included games that are not out yet. not every critic is going want to play a 80+ hour jrpg with a deadline

Jesus, the absolute difference between Danny and everyone else on that list. I have no problem with any of them, but when you compare the type of content they all put out, Danny outdoes them 100x over and is an actual gift to the community.

Who is on the jury this year? Has anyone involved learned any lessons from 2015?

The site is broke/slow for me, so I honestly cannot look.

I've been lamenting how disappointing of a year this has been for gaming, but now I recognize that I only played 2 out of these 5 GOTY contenders. Maybe I just haven't been looking in the right places.

That being said, Overwatch > All.

I'd also be curious to see how Final Fantasy XV reviews turn out and if maybe it could've been considered for a few categories had it not released so close to the awards show. That's the problem with having it in early December, that it doesn't really represent the entire calendar year.

What is it that the year a major Naughty Dog game comes out, the rest of games are so weak? Had Uncharted come out last year it would have been devoured by the other GOTY candidates.

lol what a ridiculous thing to say.

2013
-TLOU
-GTAV - 97 metacritic
-Bioshock Infinite - 95 metacritic
- Dark Souls 2 - 91 Metacritic
- Super Mario 3d world -93
- Tomb Raider reboot

2011
- Uncharted 3 (didnt win)
- Batman Arkham City
- Skyrim
- Zelda
- Dark Souls

2009
-Uncharted 2
-Batman Arkham Asylum
-Assassins Creed 2
- Demon Souls
- Modern Warfare 2
- Killzone 2
- Left 4 Dead 2

Naughty Dog games win because they are just that much better than the competition. Of course, Uncharted 3 wasnt as good and was beat out by Skyrim, Zelda and Batman AC. I doubt Uncharted 4 will clean up like TLOU and U2 did all those years ago. It even had a backlash.

I like Overwatch, but I don't think it deserves a nomination for best game. It should have been replaced with Dark Souls 3 in my opinion.

hmm now it's got me thinkin about where i'd rank their choices...

Doom>Inside>Titanfall 2>Uncharted 4>Overwatch

Deus Ex should win RPG of the year. Excellent game.

I just finished playing it. I loved the level design and the variety of ways to handle every situation but the narrative was extremely disappointing. It had such a small scope and it really felt like I achieved nothing by the end of the game.

Xenoblade X nominated for best RPG?

raw

It's going to loose obviously but it's nice to see such a good game getting some props =3

I'm going to need some sort of explainer on the subtle differences that got Deus Ex and Dishonored assigned to different genre categories.
