The Game Awards 2016 Nominees announced [Update: Full list in OP]

I'm a little disappointed by the category.
We should've best level desgin, best quest design, best character design, best mechanic etc, give those game designer some recognition.

Batman VR as a token nominee smh.

Every year I forget how weak the categories are.

No guilty gear for best fighting game? It's not like they had too many nominees.

I was thinking the same thing. I figured that it was because they were going for new fighting games over updates to existing fighters, but KI Season 3 is there so clearly they just don't like anime fighters.

BlazBlue CF got ignored as well.

TGA has pretensions of being a serious and respectable award show. Having Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator and BlazBlue CentralFiction on the list would go against that.

Yikes. Bad year for games.

It's been a great year for games, but it's hard to tell from the TGA nominees list.

Wait so Final Fantasy 15 and The Last Guardian werent included because they were not released before November 24th? What the hell.

Yeah, just like any other award show. And in the same way Xenobalde is nominated for Best RPG this year, those games could get nominated next year

I just finished playing it. I loved the level design and the variety of ways to handle every situation but the narrative was extremely disappointing. It had such a small scope and it really felt like I achieved nothing by the end of the game.

Not every game needs to be "you're jesus, save mankind and the fate of the galaxy from the huge ancient evil".

Damn that most anticipated list is ridiculous!! Like arrgh!! Eerff! Hhrrmmmmmg...

(Sigh) Can't decide on a wrong answer for that one lmao. I think if I had to choose, lest my arm were to be chopped, it would be Breath of the Wild.

Damnit. These awards have the same problem as last year! Why the hell is every game in GOTY in other categories!? Last year, the Witcher won every fucking award.

Overwatch is a super fun, but it's a proven multiplayer model with a ton of polish. Not sure it's GOTY. Same can be said for UC4, it's the most polished version of one of the best modern video game series.

I'd go Doom. Fully unexpected and the most fun I've had playing a game this gen.

Uncharted having 3 best performances is kinda odd. I mean they were good. But I feel like that category should be 1 per game.

Samuel Hayden from doom got snubbed

GOTY UC4 for me. I've also played Inside and it was with alongside Firewatch the best indies this year. But UC4 is a masterpiece for me.

Why did they already announce the nominees? Why aren't the voting opens until December 1st an hour prior to the show? This will never make sense to me.

most major award shows announce nominees way before the show

and voting isn't open until just before the show because your vote doesn't matter. The actual votes that count come from various game critics and industry insiders.

My prediction.

Game of the Year - Overwatch
Best Studio/Game Direction - Blizzard
Best Narrative - Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Best Art Direction - Inside
Best Music/Sound Design - Doom
Best Performance - Nolan North
Games For Impact Award - That Dragon, Cancer
Best Independent Game - Inside
Best Mobile/Handheld Game - Fire Emblem: Fates
Best VR Game - Rez Infinite
Best Action Game - Titanfall 2
Best Action/Adventure Game - Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Best Role Playing Game - Dark Souls 3
Best Fighting Game - Street Fighter V
Best Family Game - Ratchet & Clank
Best Strategy Game - XCOM 2
Best Sports/Racing Game - Forza Horizon 3
Best Multiplayer Game - Overwatch

Most Anticipated Game - Red Dead Redemption 2

How is Overwatch Action/Adventure? I could somehow understand action as it has shooting and meleeing but adventure? The adventure of being salty due to asshole teammates and ELO hell?

Out of their main GOTY candidates, my favorites (and ones I would be happy if they won) is Inside and Titanfall 2. Really loved my time spent with both of those, with Inside being very creepy and mystifying, while Titanfall 2 campaign was strsight up awesome action (and a few cool surprises!)

Whoever did BT from TF2 should've got snuck into best performance.

This

Solid list. I hope Overwatch takes it personally, but I'd be fine with something else winning.

Where...uhhh... is your avatar from?

The only one I have a dog in the fight for is Music. Lessee how bad it is...

*checks site*

Eh, not bad! None will make my top 3 but there's no stinkers this time.

First thing that strikes me is that this is a really poor showing for Nintendo. Keighly always tries to get a Nintendo game on that GOTY list, but there is no denying that they have not delivered at all in 2016.

I haven't played Titanfall 2 or INSIDE yet, but I've got them both queued up. Out of the GOTY nominees right now I'd go 1. Overwatch 2. Doom 3. Uncharted 4, but that is literally what my GOTY top 3 will probably be too. Tough decision between DOOM and UC4...I might have to go back to UC 4 since I played DOOM more recently and try to suss that out.

Dark Souls 3 wasn't a good game. I don't know why this is difficult to understand compared to the other nominees

That's a great list of games for GotY

I'd personally go with Uncharted 4 but I honestly think each of these games deserve it in their own right
