The GAMES OF SUMMER 2006 (US) Thread

Btw, nice list.

You need to do this for every season :)

Danke. fortunately, now that I'm not 56k this was a breeze that took like 15 minutes. Also, it helped that IGN had articles about this :lol

I like the Mario raving picture... and yes indeed the original FFIII rocks... I think ami is perhaps the only detractor (aside from people who just don't like RPGs in general). Quality game with lots of secrets to discover, a bit of nonlinearity, lots of different airships and vehicles to ride in, unique scenario development, and some extremely tough areas to trek through and battles to fight. Oh and perhaps the most grueling final dungeon in RPG history.

Pac-Man World Rally is also coming to the Xbox. And in a fit of brilliance, they aren't putting it online. Got knows nobody wants a thinly-veiled 'Mario Kart' with Ridge-Raceresque elements that they can play online, and that the Xbox wouldn't be a very good platform for online Karting. :lol

It's only $29.99, get it you bastards!!

Damn. Nothing I want really. The ones I did want turned out to be notsogood.

The lack of 360 titles is surprising.. I figured there'd be a bunch of titles that missed the launch window that would come out during the summer...

Jeeze maybe I buy too many games but I want 11 of them. Bolded titles are definite.

Prey
Titan Quest
Tekken: Dark Resurrection
The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earth 2
Chromehounds
Dead Rising
Enchanted Arms
Saint's Row
Ninety-Nine Nights
Point Blank DS

For the most part, those were the March games. Summer lulls are a given for any system.

Anyhow, I'm gonna pass on MotoGP. I'll wait for nex years... Gonna pick up:
-Chromehounds
-Hitman BM (Moto's replacement)
-Dead Rising (still don't think it's gonna make it)
-Saints Row
-Ninety-nine Nights (depending on improvements)

Summer is exacty when the PS2 originally started to take off. Beginning with the release of Twisted Metal Black, we received a steady diet of great games (ranging from GT3 to Klonoa 2). One could argue that it started with Red Faction even, which doesn't hold up today, but was decent back then and could be compared to any of the 360 FPS titles thus far (in terms of quality at time of release). It was an exception, however, and the 9 month head start prior to the US launch gave developers more time than 360 teams have not had.

The list really should have Loco Roco on it, since handhelds being region-free makes importing a breeze.

god i hope ign is right about dirge. didnt play too much into the jap one but the controls sucked so i didnt really care to get much more into it. if ign is right, that would be cool

couple others to throw out there

This is one I'm looking forward to:

PC: Darkstar One - Out in Germany - July English/US release

Wing Commander/Elite type game with RPG elements. Coming out of Germany, hopefully it will be more exciting than X3:

Really excited about that one too, especially since Ascaron is making it. Great developer imho.

This looks very nice. Had not heard of it before. If the combat part is good it is a must buy. Loved how pretty X3 was but the boring combat killed that game...

That preview seems pretty positive.

Sigh... If only my german was not so bad, I could check out their impressions...

Anyone heard anything of the combat part of the game?

Does anyone know where you can buy Point Blank DS other than Best Buy? That is so far the only place I have found selling it.

Also, Blade Dance is pretty bad. Avoid it if you can.

Where's the gameboy advance games?

I'll be getting Super Robot Taisen: Orginal Generations when it comes out assuming it makes it for the summer.

Is Mother 3 getting released this summer?

Then nobody cares about GBA.

Tr4nce: Yakuza isn't a summer title ;)
What since when? There isn't a solid release date for it yet, Sega still has listed for a general September/Summer 06 release. Summer ends September 22nd and it can still come out before then!

Rule of Rose

Release Date: August 29, 2006

In this game, little underage girls run around doing erotic things and also creeping people the **** out. I can't vouch for the games quality - dark10x says it's a game worth checkin' out - but all I know is that it's creepy. Multiple endings and all. (Article)

Super Monkey Ball Adventure

Release Date: August 1, 2006

Also coming to GCN and PSP, but again I'll cover it quickly here because nobody really cares about this crappy offshoot. You solve puzzles and avoid obstacles in your precious ball that has a monkey in it. In Monkey Ball Kingdoms. yeah. (Article)

Guys I would like you to meet Mr Mike, a member of the prestigious Monkey Ball Adventure development team.

Feel free to ask him any questions about his crappy game.

:D I wish!

I am still amazed the level of hate rained on this game, though.

it's the type of idea that only SEGA could think up, really. The Monkeyball concept is perfect for exactly what it does, not some lame adventure game with a lame story and lame levels.

****, not only do they push Contact back 2 months, it's now the same ****ing day as Final Fantasy 3 DS and Dragon Quest Rocket Slime (at least tentatively).

DO YOU NOT LIKE MONEY OR WHAT ATLUS?

****.

What's it feel like to work on a game that nobody cares about?

It makes me sad, and then I post anonymous things about it on the internet.

No, wait, i didn't mean that!
