Did they actually say the PS3 has an incredibly small install base? Because it doesn't.

GT5 won't come close to Cod Blops' numbers, but I think it will sell better than previous major PS3 exclusives like MGS4, Uncharted 2 and God of War 3. If not in the US, then worldwide definitely.

They mentioned the installed base as a reason it probably won't do too well. The thing is, I think GT5:P paid for a huge chunk of GT5's delayed production. It's like when people buy stuff like Mine Craft so that the full game could be tuned better. [sarcasm]Not sure if people are still crazy for the game they pretty much paid for in advanced [/sarcasm]. I actually skipped GT5:P because I wanted the main dish, tons of cars, features, modes. Not just the driving aspect.

I think one of the best things about GT has nothing to do with the fact that it's sort of a sim (that's just the way you play it), it's the fact that your car might be in the game. Your friend's car is in the game, that car you hate is in the game. The car count kinda give it a broad stroke of who it could appeal to. Car collectors, pokemon type players (not saying the type of game pokemon is, just the type of "ooh that white car tore me apart, need to track it down and buy it"), and more.

In short, for some reason it sells well, the simish gameplay isn't the main draw. If it stops selling well, Sony will lower the time PD can put into it, and all these car companies will tell Kaz to go away.

Have they said anything about that? I saw the quicklook and was wondering why they never reviewed it.

They aren't really RPG players. They'd rather not review a game at all than writing a review that isn't competent.

They mentioned that the current install base is why it probably won't be as big of a system seller as it was, not that the game will sell as well as it has.

If that's the case, the whole "is it a system seller though" angel from the game media is so lame. Seeming so uninterested because it don't give the impression that it will sell systems? Do Halo Reach, Mario Galaxy 2, Starcra.. ok this one sells systems I'm sure (working on mine hah, Valve power ).

System seller, what's the point in that argument anymore. I don't have the mp3 anymore to listen to it again, kinda just put the whole comment off until the Gamespot preview gaf had fun with. However I'm sure sony will do another GT + Playstation pack and people will buy them because it's better than Playstation only, just like the past GT's, who wouldn't get it over no packed in game? Motorstorm the system seller!

System sellers!

It was brought up because they mentioned how well GT bundles sold in the past, and whether GT5 would also get a bundle, etc.

So hostile, so defensive. Yeesh! :lol

I'm not trying to come across as hostile. Just searching for GT5 fixes, I look at Quick Looks a lot, and if they aren't interested they probably won't do it, or it'll be like Demon's Souls (played seemingly forcefully, not enjoyable to watch). They have quality direct feeds so it'll look better than youtubes of tv screens. They would also probably go into the different menus and try stuff that people haven't done yet (at a good quality at least). Not if they aren't interested. You see? Quick looks is like getting the game early for a few minutes.

I know, it's the internetz, everyone that want's good coverage on a product they like is too defensive. Fanboys (lol sorry man, just waiting on GT5, been through a lot should have gotten Prologue a long time ago, but GT5 will blow my mind since I didn't I'm sure).

It'll be like what they did with Forza. But if it's true that a lot of the driving aids have to be unlocked, I wouldn't be surprised if they complain (particularly Ryan if he's doing it).

Someone should ship those guys a Fanatec wheel, maybe then someone will try to be more serious about sim racing. :lol

Even if all the major American press sites flub it all of Europe is gonna lose their shit once it hits so there will probably be enough coverage from other places, and giantbomb's limited staff is better spent covering products they care about.

Is GT still hot shit in Europe? Or has everyone moved on to Forza?

There isn't exactly a ton of stuff coming out now, but yeah I'd totally understand if they decide to skip gt5. Hearing them talk about stuff they don't know jack about is cringe inducing.

They say in I Love Mondays that they're covering GT5 in the short amount of time they have this week. Expect a review after Thanksgiving weekend.

GT is still huge with the casual crowd. Or rather what we used to call the casual crowd before the wii co-opted it. The audience for it in Europe is actually so slanted towards people who occasionally play games that I don't think it would matter one bit if the video game press flat out ignored it, because the newspapers and lifestyle magazines are gonna be where people read about it.

Just like Nintendo is Super Mario, Playstation is GT.

There are cars and racetracks. Some people like it some people don't. What's to understand?

Good to hear the IT guys again.

I think GT will be a million-seller, I'm not quite sure it'll be as successful as this franchise has been in the past though. I mean, it's been a long time and all that.

But maybe I'm underestimating the PS3 gamers' thirst for some awesome sim racing action, I don't know.
If I'd be going by GAFs response to it, I would have to assume it should sell favorably, but as we all know, it rarely works out that way. So I'm cautiously pessimistic. It looks like it'll be an incredible experience either way though.

Sean got asked to say The Wizard?! He was never part of Idle Thumbs. He was part of the completely unrelated The Idle Thumbs Podcast.

What? To me Sean was a special guest but then became a really contributor to their casting of pods. He is an IdleThumb in my heart.

Well, Prologue managed to sell a little over 5 million worldwide three years ago...so with a larger PS3 install base and much more marketing, I'd say they'll do quite well.

Yeah, that always puzzled me. But hey, GT was always pretty good (if you ignore the fucked menu systems they used), so the more copies being sold, the better.

He is a fantastic part of The Idle Thumbs Podcast series, which is completely and inarguably not affiliated with The Wizard.

To be fair, GT5:P also had a cheaper price point.

It also don't have the advantage of having a full set of features (cars, events, license tests, rally, etc.) so you get what you pay for (it still cost a bit much to me). I skipped out on it because it was just a prologue.

I don't know what this means :(

GT Prologue, usually less tracks, way less cars, a lot of missing features from the main game that will come. Never played GT Concept, or the other GT small game spinoffs either (although they never came to America so i had no choice).

It definitely catches you off guard at first but the more you hear it, the more I think it starts to "fit", and you go "Yeah, I guess that really is Tycho."

The problem with that voice is that it has been used in other Telltale games, and I already associate it with other characters.

It's a sequel to TV Party instead of Go Home? :( That's too bad, I'm not jonesing for another minigame collection.

This QL is great, though. :lol <3 Vinny
Vinny makes everything awesome.
