you say this but you are really doing a good job of being the Kinect DF anyway. And for what? for an awkward, slow, imprecise movement system in Rise of Nightmares? eh, pick your battles better

Kinect is obviously limited when it comes to character movement. they have to do things like the hands up auto walk or force the payer to hold awkward “one foot forward” positions (these foot forward movements really require even more space than some people have in their living room)

there are things that kinect can do OK, but at this point they have all consisted of arm swinging or punching. anything requiring more subtlety or basically any form of forward or sideways movement has been pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty bad.

Where did I claim that Rise of Nightmares plays better than something similar played on a controller?

All I've said is that it's fun. I also freely admit that it's gimmicky and that if you don't enjoy the gimmick then you'll most certainly enjoy the experience more with a controller.

Crimson Alliance looks mediocre. No leveling up or minimap? Why even bother making a clone if it's going to be worse.
because its not a clone. its a gauntlet type game, not diablo or torchlight.

Why be angry when you can just not watch? I pay for 500 TV channels but I don't watch the ones I don't like, just like I don't watch Kessler stuff.

People must be made aware on how much Kessler sucks.

And I can't help but agree with some of what he is saying. $40 is a lot for something that's so thin on content.

Star Fox 64 is infinitely replayable. I feel that it's one of a select few older games that is actually worth that price.

Now, if Nintendo tried to sell me Yoshi's Story or Hey You Pikachu for $40, then I'd agree. But not Star Fox 64.

As much as I liked the game on my N64, even back then I felt ripped off.

As much as it pains me to say it, I put hours and hours into this game years ago. I still have my original cart. I'll pop that in before I spend $40 on a new version of it.

Also, watching someone play this game just to show it off for a quick look blows.

I don't know about mad shit, they're main complaint is mostly just the game is short, and for a re-release there's not a lot of extra content over the original.

Valid points, I guess, they seemed kind of hesitant to comment on the games actual quality until near the end(ish) where Patrick said it was "pretty great". But that's not exactly talkin' shit or anything. I mean he did call it great.

I think StarFox 64 is still a great game, there's no reason why it wouldn't be. But then again I still like Rayman 2. I also don't think the game is that short, when you take all the medals and other business into account. I cant imagine anyone being into StarFox64 and ignoring the medals and extra paths, they're like designed for multiple runs to be perfected. It'd be like playing a Sonic level once, being content with a C rank. Or not going for the gold medal in Trackmania.

For the record, I like Kessler, he may be a bit too "fast talking boisterous" at times, but I think that's probably overcompensating for nervousness. He was clearly a fan before an intern. That's starting to settle down though, and his better qualities making it through. He does know his shit about games, and he's a fairly eloquent well spoken guy.

If you guys haven't you should see the episodes of the Metagame, he's played. On the Giantbomb youtube account, all of his arguments were well said and interesting.

I loved breaking the high score counter for Area 6 ! Could never get enough of that.

First time I see a QL with Kessler, I thought he was fine. He was knowledgable on the game and general franchise history, which doesn't happen often on GB. :P

As a score attack game, I suppose you could play it infinitely. Whether you'd want to now, I don't know. Patrick brought up a good point about how when we were younger, we used to play the same games over and over again, mostly out of lack of money haha. I think I'm in the same boat as him as I might just play through it once or twice and maybe pick it up weeks later and play a level once in a while.

Maybe I'm just not that big of a Star Fox fan now. I do enjoy a good score attack game though. Hell I love Pac Man CE DX and that was only $10. Course Star Fox has more production value. Hmmm.

Agree with your points. Star Fox was incredible as a kid. I just can't justify this type of purchase when Radiant Silvergun is hitting Live for less than half the cost of this game.

I paid roughly 150 USD (converted from Dutch florins back in the day) for Lylat Wars+Rumble Pak when I was fucking 10 years old, saved up a years worth of money to get it. Patrick is right in saying I loved the hell out of it because it was only one of maybe two to four games I would be able to afford that year. Thank God for Christmas and birthdays back then.

Forty bucks is too much. Make it 20 and I would bite. Publishers need to learn not everything they make is worth the same price. I'm not saying devalue it up the ass like on iOS and Android but a more flexible price range is fine by me. You can even leave your AAA-games the same price for a longer time to compensate. Oh wait, that's already happening....

As one of my favorite games of all time I will gladly pay $40 for it (and have!).

Maybe I'm like those Steel Diver fans back when the 3DS came out who played that game for dozens of hours ("There are harder modes that change enemy placement, F**K REVIEWERS it's way longer!"), but I loves me my Star Fox 64 and it's a perfect fit for a handheld.

Also I'm obsessed with getting the medals (don't eve remember those from the N64!), and I don't even know how to get some of them (I still need another 100 hits on the asteroid field!).

I would have loved it if they had gone and put a LITTLE more effort into adding some new stuff like they did with Mario 64 DS. More playable characters, a new level or two, new stuff in the old levels, that kind of stuff. I'm never going to touch the multiplayer, and that seems to be where the bulk of the new stuff went.

I don't usually like to comment on the skill level of whoever is playing because I get that they're trying to talk and play the game at the same time, but Matt Kessler is terrible at Star Fox 64 in the Quick Look to the point where he can't even really show it off. It is really annoying to watch.

I don't like Kessler because he's an annoying fat douchebag who acts like he's entitled because of where he is. I don't have anything against fat people. Jeff and Ryan are both pretty hefty, but they're likeable funny guys. Kessler is fat AND not likeable. He's not funny, his personality is not a reason I visit giantbomb, he's only there at giantbomb because they want him there for some reason.

I love the main guys at giantbomb, and would love to support them, but people like Kessler are a reason I don't even have a subscription on whiskey media. When subscriptions were introduced last year, they kept acting like they would be adding so much new content for plus members making it worth their money. They never really made good on that, and this year when they tried to get people to resubscribe, they seem to use the subscriptions as some sort of charity to keep the site going, with more vague promises of new content for subscribers.

I would be totally fine paying a subscription if giantbomb was a little more respectful and perceptive to what their viewers actually wanted. They always seem to shake it off, as if their viewers opinions don't matter. As popular as giantbomb is, their community isn't THAT big where some of these criticisms couldn't be addressed. It's obvious a lot of people DONT like Kessler, but they keep him around. If they must have his fat ass get other people coffee or soda, have him do that, but keep his dumbass out of the content I go there for. Keep him behind the scenes, because his personality is NOT a reason I visit giantbomb.

Someone told me in the comment section of the SF643D quick look to go "die in a fire" because I just said no thanks to a kessler/patrick quick look. That's all I said was "no thanks". They are two personality that did not lead me to visit giantbomb in the first place. Patrick is ok, he's more likeable than Kessler, but no chance in hell could I stand to watch something with only them.
Who cares?

$40 for a thoughtful port of a short N64 classic is a rip-off. Replay value, you say? Don't make me laugh. I play games only once. I pay $1 a pop and swipe them off my display. Hello? Who's that speaking, please? Pristine quality? $200? I love arcade machines! Haha!

You won't pay for a Giant Bomb subscription unless they fire Kessler? They're better off without your money.

What people don't understand is that with these ports and 3DS games in general Nintendo is targeting kids. Kids who have never played these games and will be brand new to them. So making it a full retail thing kinda makes sense from that prospective. The nostalgia crowd is only a small percentage of people who'll buy these games.

Did Kessler murder your family or something?

.

They are perceptive to what viewers wanted as a member. What happened was basically "FUCK THIS SHIT WHY CANT I WATCH THIS GB SCAM SITE NEVER PAYING 2 WATCH THIS SHIT SITE AGAIN".

And people, like you, over react to Kessler. He was annoying at the start but has gotten MUCH better. The content he has been doing with lemon and other interns on their youtube channel has been pretty great. Yet no matter what he does people like you go "he's a fat fucking cunt and I hate him". He's one guy on an internet site, get a life.

These kids will be even more pissed about the length of Star Fox. They didn't grow up playing arcade shooters.

Kessler doesn't bother me, but it shouldn't be that hard for Giant Bomb to find interns who don't piss off what seems like a large part of their audience. PC Gamer have interns on their podcast all the time and they are generally good value, and never objectionable.

Why don't you read the next sentence?

Why don't you see that you brought up his weight for no damn reason, then proceeded to attempt to counter-act it by saying that you're not prejudiced against fat people because you like Jeff and Ryan. "They're my fat friends, everybody!", as if you like them despite them being fat, as if that should have any bearing.

Really, you're just doing a piss-poor job hiding your prejudice.

I'm also not a fan of Kessler's, by the way. I cite my love for the rest of the interns as proof that I'm not jealous of him. That, and game journalism is only something I wanted to do when I was younger. Now, I see that there's no money in it, the hours are poor, it's boringly repetitive, and it's "journalism" only in the loosest sense. That, and even if the love of games drove me to keep writing, there's not many jobs available that pay well enough to live off--and those that do are given away via connections and not skill, like most jobs.

That was a longer rant than I intended, haha!

At least one intern who cares about niche japanese games would be nice so they could get *some* coverage.

999, Trails in the Sky, anything from Gust/NISA/Aksys/Xseed that's coming out this fall...

These games won't get much coverage as is, I'd like to see someone do it
