Darkest of Days quick look did not disappoint! Wow, what a game!

You know what also takes skill? Using your future BALLS!
So how varied is the rest of the game? Besides Custers last stand, WWI and Rome any more fun ridiculous parts? :D
I like the Civil War area personally. (Also I never use the balls, always shoot them in the leg)

You can kill the blue guys so future dudes come in and the kill them (to take their future weapons) :lol
Makes the rest of the mission go by faster, but using the musket in the old battles is actually pretty tense, plus it makes you really value your shots.

You actually fight on both sides in each main area (WWI, Civil War) because you did too much for the side you were fighting on :lol
Mowin down the Union with a automatic shotgun that holds 20 shells and reloads in 1 second plus the stupid comments from the Confederacy is just great fun.

It just feels video-gamey (which you could say is low-budget), but I'm enjoying it a lot.
I know others will call it the worst FPS of the year, but it's just fun.

but they are talking about your actual health meter. shield depletes and then you have a health meter that doesn't recharge. but they keep saying that Halo 1 was all rechargeable.

Wait, The Endurance Run ended and no one posted it or is talking about it? (Currently at work, but last night I checked the site and it said that 155 was the last one)

I mean, I barely watched it yet I can't believe its over... what will Jeff and Vinny do with the free time?

It was discussed a lot in the Persona 4 thread. Wrapped up on Friday, hiatus time until they decide on another game to play!

I feel so empty without the ER. I really wonder if they knew before hand how to get the True Ending?

I don't know if something like Demon's Souls would be that great for an ER, if what's been said about the difficulty is true. Although they died a few times during P4, most of the time they were making steady progress. Watching people repeat the same sections over and over may not make the most interesting viewing. Also DS hasn't been released yet, so even if they take a break, it might still be too fresh on the shelves.

The colorful dialogue and characters in P4 added so much to the ER as well, it gave Jeff and Vinny a lot to play off of. So many Demon's Souls episodes would be exactly alike by contrast, as it doesn't seem like there's a heck of a lot of story. Something like Valkyria Chronicles might be better.

Then again the co-op and competitive aspects of Demon's Souls could be pretty entertaining.

How do you get a bad ending, do you have to pick someone other than
Adachi
as the culprit? If so, I doubt they knew beforehand. It seemed like they were using sound logic when they chose him.

Actually I had him in mind pretty early into the endurance run, he just fit that
it's-always-the-last-person-you'd-expect-Scooby-Doo
pattern so well.

You know, i've been thinking.

The Endurance Run was a perfect feature. It provided daily content, that users would come back to see more. However, such a project kinda puts a strain on whoever is playing it (i mean, they HAVE to record enough content for a daily video, no matter what), and it's really hard to catch the perfect game for it, with a interesting enough story and action that's good to watch.

I'm pretty sure they're relieved that the ER is over (and you catch a glimpse of that with the jokes of "OH GOD NO MORE", like the beanbag thing at today's I Love Mondays), but in reality, the loss of the ER is HUGE.

On the PAX Thing, Jeff said that they could've build a lot more content on GiantBomb in the 100 hours it took to make the full ER (not counting video editing and etc), but would've brought so many people to the website every single day?

Even if they don't continue the ER right away (which they wont), they kinda have to figure out something else to attract viewers to the site.

That one hour-ish time slot that would, daily, be occupied by the ER, is now free. That's a great opportunity for them to fill that hour-long section of time of the viewers time with something else.

To get the bad ending:
Get any of those 6 questions Yosuke asks you in the hospital wrong, or pick someone other than Adachi three times

I think Jeff knew how to get the true ending, which involves more decisions on the final day, or at least had an idea that there was more going on, I know he knew about the final boss because he allowed Vinnie to finally read that P4 comic.:lol

For the Bad Ending -
When you confront Namatame in the hospital room and Yosuke wants to push him in the TV if you choose a wrong answer during the series of response prompts you get the bad ending.

I have just recently discovered Giant Bomb. I like it a lot and it is now a bookmark. When I was bored by the NFL games yesterday I watched quicklooks. The Dreamcast ones for 09/09 were pretty great.

Brutal Legend quick look was great. Definitely piqued my interest in the game. The combat looks decent, or at least what was shown, but I love that the game is oozing with personality.

Quick Looks in general are fantastic; very helpful in forming an opinion on whether to make a purchase.

I'm struggling to come up with any game that would be suitable as an Endurance Run though...

Persona 4 had it all really:
The high school dating sim part was great for character development and set up a lot of situations where Jeff and Vinny could riff on shit.

The combat is fairly deep so the back and forth discussing different approaches was always good, plus with a turn based game like this both Jeff and Vinny were just as much in control as nothing (except getting starting advatages in battles) required fast reaction.

The over-arching story was quite competent and while it ended as such it wasn't all about "You, maladjusted teenager, is the only one who can save the world from certain DOOOOOOM".

And there was a fuck-ton of voice acting -which obviously allowed pauses to avoid dead air as they read a text prompt- and really, most of it was spot on.

I can't think of another game that would lend itself to the type of commentating and keeping it interesting with what is actually going on in the game as well.

... Persona 5? :\

They have sold me on a few games but some of the shittiest games make the most entertaining Quick Looks.

Both the Brutal Legend and ODST quick looks increased my interest in the games. I'd consider Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, as well, if it wasn't for the avalanche of games coming.

I think it would almost have to be another JRPG or other turn based type thing, as that allows both people to contribute almost equally to the proceedings.

Even though I highly doubt they would ever do it, they should do the Xenosaga trilogy. Mostly because I want to see their reaction when they get to some of the most ridiculous plot twists I've ever experienced in a video game.

It's funny, as thanks to Giant Bomb my interest in ODST has plummeted. The front page of GB is so obnoxious now it hurts.

-HEY HERE'S A HUGE BANNER ABOUT ODST
-THE BACKGROUND? SHIT YEAH, ODST, WHY NOT?
-HAVE YOU SEEN THE ODST QUICK LOOK YET?
-HOW ABOUT THE ODST REVIEW?
-DUDE, EDIT THE ODST WIKI AND RECEIVE SOME PRIZES
-YO DOG, BETTER PUT ANOTHER AD (MAKE THIS ONE SQUARE, NOT A BANNER - INNOVATION!) UNDERNEATH ALL THE OTHER ADS...just in case
-WANNA WATCH A VIDEO? HOPE YOU LIKE A 17 SECOND ODST AD PRIOR TO EVERY VIEWING

Christ. It's actually lowered my respect for the site quite a bit.

I think in the end the most important aspect of an Endurance Run game is well developed appealing characters. That's pretty rare. Persona 4's characters are really fleshed out and consistent.

They've got to make money somehow. I think the way they've handled the ODST ads - their first major campaign on the site - has been commendable.

The ads before every single video are a little out of hand. But besides that, it doesn't really bother me.

Dudes have to get paid! As long as the ads are for good games, I don't care.

The main problem is that's only one game. If the video ADs cycled through a couple games on the videos, it wouldn't even bother me - i mean, every review site does it.

Ads come with sites like these, they are like a necessary evil. But I agree, they've handled it well. Except for the ads before every video, it gets to be a bit much after a day or so.

I also like that "disclosure" bit after Jeff's ODST review regarding the ads.

That should be a bug according to a not so recent twitter post from Dave.

Edit: I can't find that post, so take the post for what it's worth.

god some people are whiny.

they give you so much awesome free stuff, and don't demand a dime.
STFU and look at a couple of halo ads for godsakes it wont kill you.

I don't mind any of it.. except for the ODST 17 second spot things.

I don't mind once in a while, but EVERY video ;_;

But. If I cared I'd turn on AdBlockPlus for that site. But I like it too much to take away $$$ like that.

It's not like it's Kotaku with ads that if you look at them they go full screen with sound and flashing and are completely obnoxious.

So true. They have to make money somehow. Just deal with it and stop complaining.
