the dinosaurs looked decent. too bad the human characters are so janky

Jeff mentioned late in the QL that the game looked decent as well.

Jeff said something about the image being banned in certain parts of the world and because this is a demo they have been showing all over it they decided to use the 'censored' version.

Swastikas aren't banned imagery in Germany. Common misconception. It's illegal to show it if it's not in an education or religion context. This game doesn't really educate, apparently, hence no Hakenkreuz.

Edit: I'm not german. I said "we" as if it was a quote from whoever enforces this "swastika" ban.

But it's really the other way around :lol

You just can't sell a product with a Hakenkreuz 'just like that', or wear it as clothing unless it's religious. Or wave a Hakenkreuz flag at the soccer game.

And there are very specific reasons that are completely justified and not hard to understand for this.

That might change in the next 50 years though, depends on how fast old people are dying, mostly.
 
Finally, some new info on The Saboteur. Looks like inFAMOUS only with a more intriguing premise. Pretty cool, although I'm saddened that once again, the stealth is just tacked on. No one makes sneaking games anymore :(

I thought it looked awesome. It wasn't on my radar until that quick look and now I'm really looking forward to it. Maybe because I haven't played anything like that for a while.
 
Hadn't seen any Saboteur for a while, definitely got a high priority on my '09 games wishlist.
May be the 360 Version for me though, my PC will handle it well i'm sure but i prefer games like this with a pad.. Unless i get the reciever for PC, i'll wait till it comes out and i hear some opinions.

Giantbomb is completely ILLITERATE on computer gaming. They might as well sit in front of a computer, bang on it twice and then scream "THIS COMPUTER IS NO GO" (just like Jeff says, jokingly, in the G-Force 3D quicklook). Even Jeff, who has a computer background, is clearly a Console Gamer.

I sincerely don't understand why IW didn't go with the Left4Dead approach to servers. Sure, make a matchmaking service that takes dedicated servers into account. If you do it properly (creating a new, custom game mode), the dedicated servers around the globe won't fuck up with your matchmaking service.

And that doesn't mean cost do IW anyway, because they don't have to provide servers. They just provide the server code and whoever wants can host them.

This is more a sign of they simply not caring about PC userbase anymore, at least not enough to spend resources on these differences that the PC release would need. Yet, they chose to do a really decent direct port of the console game instead.

And, while I don't like that decision, I can easily understand it.

Also, I don't see why people keep giving them grief for their errors. These are obviously raw recordings and they're usually on the spot when they commentate. I appreciate these gut reactions; much better than those scripted previews from other sites. I enjoy it even more than their own scripted reviews.

I don't know though, in the Modern Warfare 2 (available again) they seemed pretty easy on it actually argueing that it's not so much a step down. But none of this is new, I was just surprised to see them so indifferent or soft on it. Especially how they said it makes sense in this economy, because it only does so in profit expanding way not a cost cutting way.
 
How could you be a reviewer at gamespot and NOT have played the original call of duty. Next he'll be saying he never played Medal of Honor: Allied Assault.

I love the quick looks and really enjoy their format and the random banter that goes on during them. I think some people give them grief because they all made their careers out of writing about video games and a lot of the time they seem less informed than random fans. This can be applied to most gaming journalists.

That would be ridiculous. Everybody on the planet played that one when it came out. It was a fucking phenomenon.

People often forget how much of an impact MoHAA made.

it's funny. no one on Gaf gives a shit about them not knowing anything about sports games. why? cuz Gaf doesn't know anything about sports games, either (I'm generalizing, OK? some people there and there might)

But as soon as they don't know (or appreciate) the details of a specific hardcore game (eg: Demon's Souls) or a specific genre or platform that Gaf happens to care about then WATCH OUT! Here come the pitchforks.

I have to wonder if there are gaps in the knowledge of gaffers around here for other games or history that the GB crew might know a lot about.

I also have to wonder if Gaf thinks the only qualification to be a games writer is to have an obsessive, compulsive knowledge of every single game in existence.

it was COD: classic, a limited edition extra, on MW2 launch day. what the fuck did you expect? It doesn't have anything to do with matchmaking in and of itself. :lol

Also Jeff's comment "I think this is a sign of PC gaming growing up and functioning like the rest of the world"... Good God, these guys shouldn't be allowed to even mention PC gaming without having Dave there, it's like reading a bad troll post here on GAF.
