Also why are the humans on this planet? and why did they create this insane avatar technology when they can hang out on the planet, only not breathe the air?
 
Didn't someone wear a Dashiki at the end of the Abyss? Total high point of the movie for me.

Hehe, yeah. I should watch it again sometime. It's been a while but the only part I can remember is that awful scene where Ed Harris is sinking in his suit.

Sometimes I wonder if the whole ignorant thing is all an act. I mean, towards the start of the video when he's looking where to go, he runs to the door and has a giant yellow Y button appear, then runs away. I think Vinny is the one to tell who is playing that he should go back to the door.

Yeah, blame the ignorance. Not the plethora of transition screens, the cheesy flora/fauna info capturing, the mundane combat, the fact that the whole game looks like circle strafing, not to mention a story so full of holes you could drive tanks through it. I'm not surprised he didn't see how to open the door, cause I would've been half asleep too if I was forced to play that for 40 minutes.

The Halo comment was funny given the leeway most modern shooters take with lifting entire elements from Aliens. If they say "Game over man, game over"...

The whole concept just looks bland to me. Its like Fern Gully's heavy handed conservationism/environmentalism "we were here first" message rammed head on into Aliens and this thing came out, complete with blue skinned exotic looking creatures and a story that's so mundane even the producers couldn't come up with anything better than "modern day Pocahontas".

I don't mean just this game. They've either gotten a lot worse at these games (Brad's influence) or they just intentionally play poorly for entertainment value.
 
I think it's just tougher to pay attention during walking around parts of games when you're also trying to explain and entertain.
 
I think they just thoroughly attack the sticks whenever they play. It only happens when Ryan and Jeff play if I recall. It happens often. Even just scrolling through a menu sounds like they are involved in a tense SFIV match or something.

Unless those mics just pick up ish like crazy.
 
:lol I love the tiny practically flesh colored star stickers that is the difference between nudity on and off

Edit: I love the clicky sound controllers make, I always abuse them while playing to get some sweet menu clicking
 
Saboteur looked pretty nice. maybe it plays worse than it looks but I think I could easily get into it.

it might just be the capture (or maybe it was the flash video) but it looked like there was serious slowdown and tearing during the driving sequence. otherwise looked nice and smooth.

still, with all the releases out there… I might still wait till spring before picking it up. :|

edit: after seeing a bit more… some control issues become more apparent :(

I feel the same way. I'll pick it up earlier if I can find it for $40 or less though. But I think it's a relatively interesting concept that seems to be worth checking out.

I'm kind of sad it didn't review well, I was hoping this one will turn out to be a gem, not sure if I would pick this up now.

About the quick look, it's kind of fun to see them dicking around with the game a bit but after awhile it gets generally pretty annoying having to put up with them punching meat and getting lost looking for that french guy and then blowing the disguise and crashing the car.

It's not as though it's running against a giant list of A+ dramas, so I don't get the hate either.

Frankly I want it to be good and surprise people.
 
Saboteur looks pretty fun, albeit suffering from the Mercenaries 2 problem of looking like it plays like a last-gen game. Think I'll end up checking it out after all, barring the PS3 version isn't severely messed up.
 
I'm really hoping The Saboteur ends up being decent. Between it's developer being all-but wiped out, being the last notable release of the year (decade?) and having to contend with MW2 & AC2 (which I do believe are it's two primary competitors) it really is going into the holiday season as the underdog. Not to mention it's a new IP.

One can only hope there will be a relatively decent marketing push for it. Either way, I'm planning on picking it up, unless the reviews state it's some sort of crippling buggy mess.

But that's as far as you can tell from the trailer. Trailers are notoriously bullshit, sometimes even going so far as to edit footage of the movie in a way that intentionally deceives you (for better or worse). There are some high ranking movie critics who outright refuse to watch movie trailers for these very reasons - Gene Siskel would actually get up and stand outside of a theater until they were over.

Neither am I saying it'll be really great, just that a trailer is not a movie. I find it's much better to look at a director's pedigree and weigh that against word of mouth once the movie's already out - because there's always the people who go see every movie.

There are much better reasons to be unimpressed with The Avatar game then hatin' on the game's source material.

Well, those are only the reasons I chose to state. There are plenty of others.

Also, I maybe read Bridge To Terabithia years and years ago... but saw the movie? or saw a trailer for it and know how that's relevant? not so much.

I do agree that trailers are bullshit usually, that they're largely controlled by PR managers and producers, but I also know that if those parts are how they're choosing the portray the product... its just not something I'm interested in. I still haven't seen Titanic so I can't speak to that (never really interested me on a theatrical level even though I've seen the exhibit and enjoy the historical bits), but I wasn't a fan of The Abyss, and I'll be the first one to pick a fight over people who say Aliens was a better film than Alien 3 (not that I'm saying Alien 3 was better but rather that they're two very different movies with very different goals in mind). Terminator is an obvious classic. True Lies was corny campy fun.

I guess my point in saying these things is that, James Cameron isn't a guy who I feel any sort of fan loyalty towards. I certainly don't feel obliged to see Avatar, a movie being hyped as "the biggest movie of all time" and other sorts of ridiculous things. The marketing and PR people who are handling it have royally screwed up and I'm sure Cameron is pissed about it. A movie that'll probably be a commercial success and most likely a decent movie never had a shot at living up to the hype. It took way too long to come out of the pipeline, and only has one place to go from "biggest movie of all time", and that's down.

I usually don't watch trailers for movies I'm looking forward to, since I find I get more out of the experience if I don't, but I genuinely could care less about Avatar. Just get on with it already.
 
Was hoping for more from Saboteur and now I am disappointed. The fighting system, both melee and guns looks awful. Voice acting is bad as well.
 
Man, the Saboteur looks very... not good. Just got around to watching the quick look, and it likely didn't help the game's case that I just stopped playing Assassin's Creed II before watching it. Kind of understand it getting sent to die now if the whole game is just a lot more of that.

It generally works the other way. The trailers are the best parts of the movie pasted in to make the film look far better than it is. None of Avatar's trailers even look very good, which might be telling.
 
Hey there! The Saboteur doesn't look as bad as I thought it would, but then again it doesn't seem to impress much either. Sure, it looks like a fun time but much like Mercs 2 there are other games I should probably play instead of it (AC 2, R&C, Dragon Age, etc..) .

I'm sure it could be a fun diversion during the summer drought if my Backlog hasn't ballooned to unmanageable proportions.
 
saboteur looks like it would be good if you could do everything with stealth, like if there was a perfect stealth solution to everything. if it always ends up as that shooting though it looks terrible.

i was mildly curious after the QL but ign uk gave it a 6.2..

The rogue warrior game that was just brought out has only had something like 6 months development time. Bethesda took it off the original devs and gave it to rebellion in April, they then started from scratch.

Shame, the previous concept for an open-world shooter with you running around north korea seemed pretty cool.

A must watch if you want to see Jeff constantly crashing an ATV, and wait till the end to hear Dave crash a chair. Also, some deep discussion on whether it's okay for mud textures to be muddy.

I have to say, that game actually looks pretty cool. Sure it seemed mostly out of control, but that's kind of what I'd be looking for in an ATV racing game. I don't think I'd be happy with an ATV game where you aren't constantly on the verge of flipping to your doom if you are speeding through the woods.
