Three warriors? :S

That's one thing I don't like about DA:O, there are too many warriors! I used to roll with 1 warrior, 1 rogue and 2 mages.
There is an amusing mod to let you change NPC classes and specs. I was playing with a full female party with Morrigan tanking and Wynne dual wielding at one point.

I'm sad, because I love quicklooks and I can't watch any of them. A couple of months back I lost the ability to watch any video on GiantBomb, they all stop at "loading...". I've tried several versions of Firefox, I've tried the development version of Chrome, I've played with user agent strings in case Linux for some reason is blocked, I've tried several versions of Flash and nothing works.

A long shot, I know, but has anyone here had the same problem, with no videos loading, and if so how did you solve it?
Do Flash videos work on other sites? Is your sound configured properly?

Does the browser download the video? Check with a system monitor, look at the network traffic.

Do you use AdBlock Plus? That can sometimes screw with video sites if you've got the wrong list. Try disabling it for the giantbomb.com domain.

Check whether you can access the videos directly with mplayer. Here's what you should type on the command line:
Code:
mplayer 'http://media.giantbomb.com/video/vf_heavyraindemo_ql_700.flv'

I'll look into extensions for saving flash video. As long as I can watch the stuff somehow, that's all that matters.
DownloadHelper is alright. But you have to start the video first to get the direct URL that points to the FLV. So that might not work then.

Also, upgrade your Ubuntu. You can do this directly from the Update Manager. http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgrading

Yeah I wish they kept as real as possible. I mean they should have gone for the forensic laboratory approach. It would have taken a few weeks to analyse the evidence in the game, but at least it would be realistic.

Video game is video game, news at 11. Would you rather be pressing 'X' at every bush trying to find clues, hunting the pixel in a 3D space? Or have clues pop up on screen by themselves?
I thought they handled the investigation stuff fine in Indigo Prophecy (you know, before the game went completely off the rails). It may not have been "true to life" but it didn't feel out of place like magic future sunglasses and a Michael Jackson glove do. But again, it's all contingent on how they explain it away. All they have to do is give you some BS explanation of "we're giving you this experimental new equipment so you can test out how it works in the field" or something and I'll be fine with it. And maybe the tech and the setting of rest of the game warrants its existence without an explanation. Who knows, maybe it's semi-future despite being contemporary a la Southland Tales. It's just incredibly jarring to see some Blade Runner-style ish in a game where the main thing they've been selling up until now is the mundane "realism" of it all.

Yeah, everything such as YouTube works like it should, and that used to be the case for GiantBomb as well.

But fuck it. I'm writing my own GiantBomb video downloader. URL in, video out. Sucks that I can't give them the ad views though.

Edit: Oh, and yeah, I can wget the videos just fine. I should have no trouble automating this.

Well, that's a completely valid solution! And it should be incredibly straight-forward to do this.

Still weird that it's broken on your installation while it works just fine on mine.

And freakin' upgrade your Ubuntu already.

Where did Vinny work before Giant Bomb? I've been watching the endurance run for a while now & it occurred to me that I've never heard of this guy before :lol And I sure don't recognize him in the vids either (like that FF13 video the other day).

Like Jeff, Ryan and Brad, Vinny was at Gamespot. I think he was doing some video stuff and he hosted the HotSpot for awhile too.

It's not about where he came from, it's about where he's going, on a rocket ship to Awesomeville, Awesomnia, Planet Awesome.

did you accidentally upgrade to the 10.1 flash beta? that could've caused it.

Funny you should ask...

Before being discovered at GameSpot, Vinny Caravella was a freelance video editor/producer working in New York. While living there, he worked on "professional education videos", which are basically tutorial videos for aspiring workers in various domains. Some of his early work includes interactive videos for various firms and being on the staff of the Dave Chappelle skit "The Prince". He also worked as a DJ at an ice skating rink.

In early 2006, Vinny's friend Carrie Gouskos offered him a job at GameSpot, as they were searching for video editors. Since he always wanted to live in San Francisco and had been a GameSpot user for years, he took up the offer. He worked there as a video editor and producer up until his resignation in May 2008, after which he joined Jeff and Ryan at Giant Bomb.

In 2009, Vinny created color-blind-friendly textures for RockinRoll, a puzzle game for the iPhone.

Seems like it's sacrificing something for the pretty art style. See when your character wall jumps? There are a few extra frames of animation that make it look clunky. Same with the combat; there's an ugly pace to it because you have to wait for a flashy transition in between juggling or slashing. Devs need to play Shadow Complex and emulate that type of precision. SC is fun to play because your character turns, jumps and bounces off walls at lightning speed. I need something more than Penny Arcade prettiness to play what looks like another slow, shallow brawler.

?

This is like the exact opposite of what I'm seeing. It seems you can cancel everything into each other and the whole thing looks really fluid and fun.

Ugh..still no platform mentioned though. Stop fishing for exclusivity and just release it on everything!

You're comparing apples to oranges.

Also Shadow Complex & precision, really?

:/

LTTP but I must say that presenter from the Giant Bomb X10 Game Room video actually managed to get me interested in game room with how enthusiastic he was (He had shiny lips though). Use that man more MS!
