Game looks far more interesting than Blur.

Good QL.

The environment looks great and the explosion effects look cool, but personally Blur looks much more fun. From what I've seen of Blur (which, admittedly isn't much because I don't have Live Gold and couldn't play the beta) it just looks incredible.

Gonna chime in here since I've spent some time on the blur beta and a marathon 2 day session playtesting split/second. In my personal opinion, split/second is miles more fun to play and more exciting. Some of these levels can be compleatly altered during a race, pretty much everything can and will explode in your face. It feels like some sort of burnout spin off, which isn't a bad thing at all. With that said, blur certainly has it with the multiplayer stuff. while split/second gets even more fun and chaotic in the multiplayer, blur's is a much deeper with the whole COD esque leveling up and mods.
All in all, I have to say that for now, I think split/second is a far superior game but that could just be the fan boy in me talking :-p

Without having played it, Blur just doesn't work for me visually.
Split/Second looks far more intriguing, as does ModNation Racers.

It's apples and oranges, really. Split/Second isn't nearly as arcadey as people think. It controls more like PGR than Burnout. But Blur is even more arcadey than Burnout. It's more like the Rush series. I've played both games and I don't see any reason not to get both.

Oh I don't disagree that it looks very good, I'm just more interested in Blur. I prefer arcadey racers, I don't like racing sims. Anything that takes it further in the direction of over the top, arcadey, and not simmish is good in my book.

The only reason I have to not get both is that I don't have need for that many driving games. I'll try both out and see which one I like better, but right now Blur more up my alley with limited exposure to both games.

Probably the only time where I'd like a quick look without them talking during the cinematics. Damn yous!

Yeah, they turned the subtitles on after the cut scenes were over. I've transcribed the Zeus one though:

"Grr! I'm angry"

"NO! I AM ANGRY!"

"I SAID I'M ANGRY!"

"I'LL KILL YOU BECAUSE I'M ANGRY"

(lightning bolt)

God... I wish I had a website that was cool enough to have people send me free games so me and a friend could record ourselves fucking around with it.

QUICK! I need to get employed at CNET and give Dog Days a 6.5!

I know I'm just nitpicking but I find it "annoying" that there's no feedback when a car land from a jump. Other than that it looks pretty cool.
The controller vibrates. The feel of the driving is different than what you expect from an arcade-ish racer. The cars really grip the road and have a real feeling of weight to them, which makes all the crazy that more satisfying.

I generally leave these going in the background while I'm at work. it's great white noise to "admin" too.

I used to do that while I was multitasking but just always ended up watching them again to see what I missed when I wasn't paying full attention.

Yeah...I'd say a good two months or so, I watched every single Quick Look twice until I realized it happened every time.

Have they ever talked about offering their Quick Looks as a download? iTunes/Podcast would be the best. Thanks. :D

edit: Setting up a torrent would also be great. :)

quick question if anyone knows, is there a way to get to the actual mp4 videos of giantbomb and bypass the flash video player? flash absolutely kills my macbook (makes it heat up to over 70 degrees c) but i still want to watch the videos :(

I use Firefox with an addon called flash get in order to download giantbomb's videos in FLV form, then i play them using media player classic, no idea if this will work on a mac.

Download the videos and watch them with Quicktime. Use DownloadHelper for Firefox for that.

That's exactly what I do, except using VLC (mac + firefox)

And if this still causes issues for you qwerty2k, use something like Handbrake to convert the FLVs to whatever format you prefer (MP4/M4V/MKV/etc).

And now that I think about it, Split/Second could be one of the most hardcore racing games released this generation. It's pretty easy to race a good line when you know the track, but try doing it when the track is changing on the fly.

Help out a gaffer at work - whats on the plate for this week?

Aloooooooot.

Sounds like we'll be getting a bunch of DS Quick Looks, Infinite Space, Pokemon and Shin Megami Tensai: Strange Journey.

Perfect Dark, Resonance of Fate and Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening Quick Looks sound likely too.

There's were a bunch of other games mentioned but I forget them now. I think alot of them were next week and/or stuff that'll be written about though.

Am I the only one who doesn't like these sorts of quicklooks with the devs basically walking you through the entire thing and citing features/hyping up the game. I prefer the first impression commentary you get when it's just one of the GB guys.

Maybe it's just me.
I agree with you.

I agree. I know most of these feature an unfinished game, but sometimes it's just awkward when it has glaring problems.
