I thought the fitness games looked decent. And I haven't checked the KInectimals or Dance Central videos yet.

What strikes me is how laboured and slow menu navigation with the Kinect is.

i think ubisofts fitness title and Kinectimals look decent. everything else looks shallow or broken.

going through menus does seem horrible and when you add in reports of kinect messing up tracking and drift issues it doesnt sound like a fun experience.

Kinect Sports looked kinda cool as well. Even the turn-based strategy version of Soccer.

Avatars/Miis make everything 48% more hilarious.

I agree with Ryan that allowing you to move around your avatar's arms freely while running around or in cutscenes is pretty awesome.

It's silly but makes everything a bit more fun.

Ryan running down the track screaming and waving his arms in the air might have been the funniest thing I have seen out of the Kinect QLs so far.

'Rider meet horse/horse meet rider' was just depressing.

kinect sport / adventures and dance central are the 3 worthy titles imo. With DC being a maybe killer app. It certainly got me interested in this heaps.

The fitness titles, are so stupid and pointless to me.

Kinectimals has by far the best interface and presentation out of all the games (just watched it).

I personally don't give a shit about pet simulators like Nintendogs or this but they seem to have done a good job there. Credit where credit is due and all that.

Kinect Sports comes after that. It's not a surprise that the first party stuff is leaps ahead of the competition, that's just how it is at launch.

Can anybody else watch the happy hour in HD? Whenever I try to I just get a black screen with no audio :-/

"High" works well enough, though.

I wasn't too shocked when he said he weighed 305 pounds at 5'10''.

I was, 305 seems way too low for how he looks. I enjoy GB as much as everyone else but Ryan especially has a problem. Go look at his old Gamespot videos and see how "thin" he looked in those. He has exploded over the past couple years.

It makes me feel sad when some of my favorite personalities just can't shake the weight, especially when it makes them really self-conscious. I feel this way about Kevin Smith. It's amazing that nobody ever brings it up on his podcasts. I think if I had a friend who was morbidly obese and pursuing a relentlessly unhealthy lifestyle, I'd want to help them change so they could be around longer.

On the Bombcast they do the opposite and talk about how unhealthy they are, it's funny and it's their lives so we really can't judge them for doing what they want. They talked a couple times about a pizza place that had an unlimited buffet and they would just go try and out-eat each other back in the day.

Vinny and Brad are quite possibly as unfit as Jeff and Ryan. It's possible to be slim, yet completely out of shape. From the sounds of it, they all eat the same junk.

A few friends of mine eat like shit but cannot gain a pound.

I don't see what anyone's weight as to do with anything, especially in this industry. If anyone is personally concerned for him, write him an email. :) Weight is just a very visible health risk. You can't tell what other Journalists are doing meth, or drinking at 8am.

This topic has no merit! HORSE MEET RIDER, RIDER MEET HORSE. Yes. Back on topic.

Go look at some recent pictures of Brad. He's got a huge gut on him now.

I think Vinny goes to a gym periodically. He's definitely mentioned it before.

ryan and jeff are both extremely out of shape. anyone thats been watching giantbomb stuff for a while should have noticed they'll break a sweat just standing for a period of time.
Standing in front of hot lamps that evenly light green screen can make sweat everyone fast.
But I agree, they are out of shape.

I think Jeff has been losing weight recently, but Ryan seems to have picked up what Jeff lost.
I was seriously shocked by his weight during the Biggest Loser session. Considering all the energy drinks they drink plus all the other unhealthy shit we see in their mailbag videos it's not that surprising. Still I'd like to see both of them get a bit healthier.

Seriously, it's not even what they eat. I bet Jeff and Ryan would instantly lose a bit of weight if they just replaced all the soda and energy drinks with water.

P90X as a workout game would make me buy kinect for sure...

that would be so awesome...

yup. I’d love to see a digitalized Tony Horton (with that unnaturally jet black hair, of course) yelling at me to dig down deep and bring it.

I’ve been doing P90X on and off for around a year now. One of the main reasons I got Your Shape and the Kinect was for the visual feedback on the yoga positions and the more interactive take on cardio. I think it’ll be an interesting way to mix it up with the standard p90 bits, which are getting a bit too familiar now.

So is the quicklook thread just going to be talking about bombcasters' weight problems as long as Kinect games make you move around?

Also I caught up on the Motion Sports QL this morning and holy shit. :lol

That's because they have a high metabolism. Fat around the waist can be related to poor cardiovascular health but it's really a separate health risk. Being unfit and carrying a huge gut is sort of a double whammy.

Also, while we're discussing fitness, shadow boxing is a good exercise because you have to use your own energy to stop your punches.

meh they're grownass men, if they're for some reason unhappy with their physical health they'll do something about it and switch lifestyles. If not, then keep enjoying life whichever way you please

I'll donate a dollar to Child's Play for every pound the 4 main GB guys lose between now and whenever Child's Play ends. I'm serious.

Are they doing a Child's Play this year?

I am fairly sure they are and are going to be kicking it off this week or the next, I know there's an Umloud event going on early December.

Damn, let it go people. So he's overweight, big deal. I'm sure you've noticed before today, and I'm reasonably sure he's aware. Maybe he'll go on a diet and exercise kick, maybe he won't. Who gives a crap? That is a personal thing and we don't need to fucking stop the thread and discuss this for three pages just because the dude looked a little winded ten hours into a quick look streaming bonanza.

You can do, drink, or smoke whatever you want, and it's nobody's business, but apparently if somebody eats too much RELEASE THE FUCKING HOUNDS.

Release the hounds? You think people are attacking them over this? It's the opposite really, people are only bringing it up because they care about the GB dudes. I personally think they can live life whatever way they want as it's their life but I understand why people want them to get healthy.

Exactly. I have similar worries (not losing sleep over it, mind you) about Gabe Newell and George R.R. Martin. I admit that I would not think about this at all (except in Martin's case, because he is old as well) if it weren't as apparent a problem, like smoking, or drinking, or whatever.

I think the effect a person's level of fitness might have on their enjoyment of motion gaming is a relevant topic, especially when that enjoyment may translate into a review score.

Like how they are overwhelmingly positive on Dance Central, fairly positive on the excersize games, and the motion-controlled games they didn't seem to enjoy didn't require nearly as much movement? It's a stupid tanget the thread got onto, and hopefully isn't the norm as they move onto more green-screened Kinect stuff.

I'm in the same boat; I care because I love. I don't want to see a genius like Gabe Newell suffer a crippling heart attack ~5-10 years from now because he's obese.

Go take a look at what Peter Jackson has done for himself, he looks healthy, younger and ready to make movies for decades to come.

Also, the reason is gets discussed is because of things like this:

Ryan Davis is the reason I know the website This Is Why You're Fat exists. He posted it. And he said "I have to try some of this stuff" at the end of the post.
Some of the things there look terrible, but others are amazingly delicious looking.

Too bad I'm not fat so I can't use that website. :(

The type of movement required is going to have a much larger effect on how strenuous an activity is than the amount of movement (like six inch leg raises, for example). Enjoyment is secondary for an exercise game since the main point is, well, to exercise. That type of game may require a different approach and a different skillset to gauge its effectiveness. Like rigorous, continued use over several weeks, which isn't something I think the GB is really interested in.
