zoner's right about the innaccurate quick looks. Watching something like the Monster Hunter Tri QL after having played the game makes it clear GB is clueless about games which are more complicated than Halo/CoD style console FPS. They had difficulty finishing FF13 judging by how long it took him to get a review up, and that was one of the most casual/streamlined JRPGs I can think of. (Please don't bring up stuff like Assassin's Creed; those games are as easy as they come, and the same could be said of the other games GB hypes.)
Reading through this thread it seems clear to me that people like GB for the 'humor' of the main staff, not for the quality of information they provide. Now I'm not going to dredge through hundreds of pages for quotes but I can remember people saying stuff like they hope that fat guy starts losing weight because his personality is so endearing they want him to stay healthy. I think people were even talking about stuff like videos of the BG staff's switching offices and other stuff not even vaguely related to video game coverage. Then there's the things with people paying for a subscription to watch the guys get drunk and maybe talk about games or watching who knows how many hours of endurance run or mailbag fluff. That's another thing, it blows my mind why anyone would want to mail these guys sodas and other junk, what's the point besides getting mentioned in the already pointless mailbag segment?
Personally I find that sort of one-way internet friendship creepy, but a weirdly insular and obsessive fanbase seems to be the main thing GB has going for them (didn't they go crazy because some woman ruined a podcast? that's not exactly behaviour I'd call normal). Certainly it's the only way their subscription model could bring in money.
You may be wondering why I singed up to post in this topic if I don't find GB quicklook's all that useful. Well it's because the idea of the QL is great and something I'd like to see implemented elsewhere or improved upon, which is why I've keeping track of this topic. Also it's really eye opening seeing how bad GB's accuracy is, since these guy's used to work at a pretty mainstream review site it's made me rethink how trustworthy game reviews are.
Elsewhere in this thread when GB was criticised or questioned at all their fans got furious. My question is what's the point of having a discussion topic that consists of nothing but parroting praise for content updates that can be easily found at GB's own website? Accusing me of trolling just because this is my first post and am not echoing everone else would reflect poorly on this forum I think.
