So, last night I decided to turn the 360 on after a few months of inactivity. I downloaded some demos here and there and then I went to the games on demand section. I was like "Hey, cool! Bayonetta is in here. I'll just save my 900 MP and buy a Microsoft Points card tomorrow".

So, after a few minutes I decided to go back to my PC to play some Batman (left my 360 on downloading some stuff). I switched my HDTV signal to my PC, synced my 360 controller with the PC wireless dongle and started Batman.

I was like "Heeeeeeeeey, what is going on??? The controller is not working". A,A,A,A,A,START,A,A,A. After a few seconds it hit me "Ohhhhhhh noooooooo...". I switched back to the 360 and I had this Ghostbusters game on queue :(

It could have been Beyond Good and Evil or Hard Corps or even that Poker game, but nooooooooo! I got stuck with this.

Bottom line is: This game is baaaaaaaaaad. Boring and repetitive. It has framerate problems and you don't even play as the original Ghostubusters. Not worth anyone's time.

PS: Sorry about that. I'm still mad salty about the whole thing :'(.

That really sucks, dude. It is pretty easy to accidentally buy something on the 360.

Quick Look: Yakuza 4 (49:50)

Ryan and Jeff being Japanese dudes.
I really wish I had a PS3 to play these games. Everything about the pacing and atmosphere just seems right up my alley. Is going back to the first Yakuza at this point still a good experience for newcomers? Basically does the first one have all the cut-scenes and deliberate pacing that the ps3 releases have, or is the experience less feature rich than the PS3 releases?

The old games feel totally the same. Of course they don't look as good.

Some of us are playing through the old games right now in the linked thread. I'm about to wrap up Yakuza 2, and essentially the experiences are identical, albeit with lesser visual tech. More and more content is added with each release, but in terms of the main event, the games all follow a very similar formula. PS2 games hold up quite well actually, the PS3 games are obviously visually superior and seem to clean up a few of the inefficient design quirks, but the core games are fine.

Y2 is far superior to part 1 I found(most especially in narrative and characters) but they are great primers for the sequels. The game's all feature 'catch-up videos' that get you up to speed on previous events and characters, but if you do have an interest in the saga, you will get so much more out of the game's by starting from the beginning. Unlike most sequels, these really do feel serialized, and since the environments center on the same locations in Y1 in every game, it is neat to see the world evolve.

I'd take a Yakuza Endurance Run. Problem is, idiots constantly emailing them about Endurance Runs have made it virtually impossible to express genuine desire for an ER without feeling self-defeating. :(

Never been into the series, but 10 minutes into the Quick Look I came here to post I'd love a Yakuza ER. Maybe just Yakuza 4, if they either went through the entire Reminisce section first or briefly ran down the prior events in some way.

I thought about bringing this request to their attention, but couldn't think of a way to not make it sound desperate or ironic. Maybe the Lincoln Force can help us out.

Thanks for the replies I'll definitely pick up the first Yakuza and give it a play over the summer when I have more time.

Keep in mind that the first Yakuza has an awful English dub.

Should we expect some 3DS QLs? IIRC they don't have the neccessary equipment to show it, but not sure. Obviously it wouldnt be in 3D, but still.

They already did a quick look of monkey ball and did some tests with having a 3d version of it.

That's gotta be one of the most slowest things i have ever seen, by the end i was pretty much done like Jeff, they spent more time watching cutscenes than playing the game! Thankfully the story and the world seems great i just hope there's a great payoff behind the brutal pace.

The publisher brought the capture equipment to the office. As far as they've said, they do not actually have a set for themselves.

they picked a fairly bad spot for a quick look. Game has a lot of gameplay variety.

Yakuza 3 and 4 both start off pretty slow. It's pretty much like a long TV show where it slowly builds up over time. So it's rather unfortunate that the quick look format shows off the game quite horribly.

A quick look of Persona 4 would also be super duper slow for at least the first couple hours of only pressing X.

They said they knew it wasn't like that though.

Persona 4? Yeah I was just using that as an extra example of a game that isn't suited to the quick look format.

EDIT: Ok just reached the end of the quick look. You were talking about Yakuza 4.

I think he's talking about Tactics Ogre, The Third Birthday and Dissidia 012 that just came out on PSP.

Also, who at SE thought it was a good idea to release it all at once. -_-

I love Tactics Ogre but I don't think it would make for a good QL. I wouldn't be surprised to see one for the 3rd Birthday or D012, even though they tend to ignore psp.

I think Brad hated the original Dissidia so I don't know why he'd try Dissidia plus one. Atleast with Yakuza 3 I recall Jeff being interested in the story but not the gameplay.

Tactics Ogre wouldn't be terribly exciting. Third Birthday will probably happen. Maybe even Trails In The Sky, but I'm doubtful

A Yakuza 4 endurance run would be perfect because it has the same cognitive dissonance that existed in Persona and Deadly Premonition. If they played it on easy, they could also probably get through it without doing any of the sidequests either and boil down the 40 hour experience to like 15.

But yeah, that'll never happen. I'm just glad they admit it exists, because Y4 will probably be my GOTY short of some miracle.

I did the same exact thing a while back thinking I had the 360 controller synced to my PC and bought some jigsaw puzzle game.

Heh, this one was special in that I haven't even played the game and yet I was still annoyed that Ryan was playing it wrong. He kept loitering and letting his combo expire, or bunching together and trying to avoid obstacles when he should have spread out and let a few swarmites die to keep his combo going like Alex told him. But still, it all looked like a lot of fun until it locked up.

And FF4 Complete, yesh...

Why ahven't the covered any of those games? I mean, I thought Brad was big on RPGs and stuff that was outside the realm as well.
