Traveller's Tales go and do new IP ,new game, new something, wake the hell up be real developers for fuck sake, do you guys want to make these same awful game for rest of your lives?

And it's absolute disgrace Disney decided to put money on this and cancelled Armada of the Damned the promising Action RPG that many journalists said it was like Mass Effect of the the Caribbean...What a shame, Disney Interactive is a big pile of fail.

Jesus christ calm down man. The Lego games are all pretty great. Yes they're by and large similar to each other but they're made to appeal to fans of whatever license they're carrying.

I don't understand the thread and GB community implosions that come from the quick look videos. I mean, I fucking love Demon's Souls and don't hold it against the guys when they say they don't enjoy it. Saying "they should do more research" is dumb as hell when a quick look is jumping into the game "raw," so to speak.

I don't think the majority of people's problems are coming from the GB crew not liking stuff that they themselves enjoy (or at least it's not my problem with them, could be wrong about anyone else's perspective). However, the purpose of a quick look, in general, has never been so defined.

Sometimes they've played the game previously, sometimes they haven't. There's different expectations for those two scenarios, but when you start of a video about Brink saying, however he did, that you don't like the game. Then for nearly 50 minutes in that video about Brink fail to articulate why you don't like it in any way beyond vague statements like "the shooting feels unsatisfying" or whatever overused phrase is currently in the rotation of GB's vague criticism catalog, thats where things begin to get a bit annoying. It honestly wouldn't have surprised me if he had called it "dated".

To be fair, and for the record, I like giant-bomb a lot, and Jeff's points on the bots were conveyed much better. In a multi-player only game that is somewhat likely to not have many games filled with human players, I consider, a valid criticism.

To be extra fair, Jeff totally went deeper into describing why the shooting controls were inadequate in his review, probably will as well on the podcast. This, however, isn't always the case; especially on the podcast.

I don't mind if Giant Bomb doesn't like everything I like, I just expect more out of their criticism because it's often times very good. Even amidst the "Killzone 3 is dated" comments which showcased, more than anything, their sometimes reliance on vague phrases like "dated". Jeff was actually making a good point about the rote nature of Modern FPS design. He's also been very interesting and astute making points on how head shots and the easy path of least resistance is ruining some of the fun in modern video games.

Giant Bomb is funny, but it's not like it's all these guys have ever been. A lot of the time their funniness is coupled with them making an interesting point about games or the games industry, it's been that way dating back to the Hot Spot. These guys are certainly more than capable of informative, in depth criticism. Which makes the times when they cop out with those vague phrases all the more noticeable.

Didn't some of the developers behind Armada say it was an non-consistent mess even after years of development, and that there was no single vision, that the stuff they presented at e3 was everything they had in any presentable form after two-three years of development time?

I can understand the Lego hate, if you played on of the more annoying titles - BATMAN. However, Clone Wars was good (even if the story made no scene to me). Lego PotC seems to be that same good gameplay, but with a plot I know more about.

Chillax, dude. The Lego games are still a pretty big step above most licensed kids games, and they always sell well. It's a proven formula. The last time TT tried something new was when they made a game called Haven, which you've probably never heard of because it sold like crap.

Also you seem to assume that Travelers Tales has complete control of what games they want to make. Do you really think Neversoft wanted to make seven Guitar Hero games? Ultimately its what the publishers want.

I like Pirates of the Carribean, I like lego. Those lego games look great but I'm not a fan of star wars.

Oh look, a market opportunity.

Too long;I read it anyway.

I agree with you here. It's a bit disappointing when they aren't always giving it their best. But then again, I'm pretty okay with Jeff kind've mumbling through this Quick Look.

So, yes, I'm going to tell you that it is Only a Quick Look! But really that isn't all. I kind've enjoy a ton how the guys never try to veil how they feel about something. It's absolutely one of the best qualities about Giantbomb that somehow they have a level of professionalism that a majority of sites have not reached while staying completely themselves as personalities, only attempting to sell what they offer when they absolutely need to so that we can continue to enjoy what they do.

I'm glad that they all get to act out exactly the kind of gaming criticism that they want to instead of ever feeling forced to do their jobs. I feel like that's how we've gotten so much that's worthwhile out of them. I wouldn't go to the site nearly as often if I came by one day and the most recent Quick Looks are hiding how the guys actually feel about the game while playing it in, replaced by some rote, obligatory breakdown bullshit. It's good that they can get this out of their systems every once in a while.

Oh, you were also talking about how vague they can be! I remember that part. Like I said in agreeing with you earlier. It is definitely disappointing, but like I also said, it's understandable. I can see how Jeff wouldn't be up to articulating some of these points when he's not enjoying the game enough to care. Hell, you could even say he was trying to step around saying anything to infuriate the community before he posted his review, but that would be incredibly unlikely.

Regardless, Jeff does a much better job elaborating on how he feels about Brink in his review and on the podcast, but you, seemingly faithful Giantbomb fan, have probably already experienced both.

Addendum: You have a pretty great username.

While I'm certainly not against detailed criticism, the gameplay that accompanies these vague statements did a good job of backing them up. Everything said to not be very good is clearly seen to not be very good.

Also, for the record, I find the dismissive attitude toward Giantbomb's style of game criticism is kind've unneccesarily disrespectful and arrogant!

Oh wait.

Hello Internet!
(Man, I should not post this.)

Edit: I decided to clarify this by saying that a good amount of the criticism tends towards this! Some of you are actually incredibly fair and open-minded in your OPPROBRIUM.

Sometimes you can't exactly place your finger on the root of the problems of a game, but the end result is all the same: you aren't having fun.

And folks, that's simply all that matters. Jeff clearly wasn't alone either based on other forthcoming scathing reviews.

In my opinion, the quick looks are perfect for what they are - a quick look at an unreleased or just released game.

The commentary is usually pretty funny and they give a good enough look at the gameplay.

Quite a few buying decisions have been based on that quicklook. Games I thought I'd like didn't look like they played as well as I would have hoped and some games just came out of left field for me.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. The pro's do outweigh the con's and I definitely prefer the occasional jaded dismissal to an emotionless overly analytical, boiler plate style of criticism; that goes down the check list of how many guns, levels and frames per second the game has. At the very least Jeff himself seems to be aware of this specific shortcoming, He mentions his sometimes reliance on somewhat vague phrases on their PAX panel.

While I'm certainly not against detailed criticism, the gameplay that accompanies these vague statements did a good job of backing them up. Everything said to not be very good is clearly seen to not be very good.

I agree in terms of showcasing how terrible the bots looked (they looked pretty busted). But his criticism of the bots wasn't vague anyway. However, as far as I know, I didn't see anything in the QL that made the shooting seem particularly busted. Not that it really matters anymore in lieu of the review and podcast.

Close. And by close, I mean not close at all. He's gone from the office for good, like, next week. Moving to New York and doing out-of-office work for GB and Screened there.

that was the most painful brad moment.. he even knew it was there from the start but just ignored it because he thought he couldnt move it, and it kept appearing in the radial menu with a tick next to it showing that they had already found it..

Plus, you kill lego people in Pirates.

Looks like the dream will never be. :P

And not just regular ol' killing, either. You flat out decapitate lego people and they comically reach for their head which is no longer there.

Chewbacca would tear the arms off lego stormtroopers, so being lego-gruesome isn't new.

I mentioned it to TT on Twitter and got this in reply:

Lets be honest, if Lego hasn't whored themselves out to a property its simply because no one asked them yet

The lego isle at stores is a hollow shell of what it was in my youth

Edit: TT needs to do lego games based around the classic lego sets like the ice guys or the space guys with the green/black theme.

Quick Look: Conduit 2 (32:30 min) (Ryan / Patrick)
If they don't end up reviewing this (which they probably won't, just a guess not having watched the QL), Ryan has to at least YouTube the final cutscene. I have a feeling he'll adore it. Anybody at Whiskey reading this, make it happen and record impressions.

Ryan Davis is the first person I thought of when I watched the ending of Conduit 2. It's almost as if they made it for him.
