The GiantBomb Quick Look Thread

The main issue I have with *every* QL is that they don't seem to pay attention to things on the screen. I wonder if they have some brightness issue or something blocking them or something.. he spends so much time trying to find an option only to get it on screen (Turn X: Always) but never actually check it.
 
Yes yes yes. Conduit 2 is worth it for the hilarious ending. GiantBomb gang we know you read our threads. At least youtube the ending. It's sooo bad.

I have to admit I was raging a little bit on the inside when Ryan ignored the big red barrel next to two enemies he was shooting at.

Absolutely. Its like Thom Clancy convinced the rest of the studio to tailor the ending specifically to Ryan.

Hope Teddy Roosevelt was one of those other folks coming out of the portal. Think about it, smashing aliens with a gun and a big stick.

Wow,This is awful, really, really horrible and ugly and all over the place.

And I agree with Ryan and Patrick, Motion FPS is fucking terrible, I know some people here thinks it's better than dual analog but for me it's never felt right, it's just slow and like shooting while raiding a crazy camel jumping on trampoline.

Conduit 2 is ugly as hell, Half-Life and The Chronicles of Riddick on original Xbox look better than this crap imho, but well at least the guns look decent.

I said it on Thor QL and will said it again, SEGA should work with only good developers, stay away from these shitty developers, you don't have to publish crap like this game.

I would rather see them do Capsized myself. Garshasp they would just be down on because it's not as polished as a God Of War game.
 
I'm kind of not digging Patrick. At first I thought he was alright but he is starting to bug me.

Also, I've never played the conduit but I don't think it looks too bad.

I really wish I had video of how people actually look while they're playing these Wii games. What, are you holding your arm straight out and moving at the shoulder? Are you spinning all over the place?

What could you people POSSIBLY be doing that makes you think that pointer controls on a shooter are in any way inferior to an analog stick?

Hey you know how terrible it would be to play something like House of the Dead or Time Crisis using an analog stick for aiming? Horrible, right? SAME FUCKING CONCEPT, just slightly less bad when it's an FPS. Just because you're used to dual analog controls doesn't mean that they're BETTER than pointer controls.

HotD/TC are on rails, you don't have to deal with camera control while aiming within it, which is what is so shockingly shitty about motion shooters in my experience.

And that gets worse when you're trying to press buttons other than a trigger or do motions with the controller you are aiming with (e.g. Killzone 3 w/ move).

Doesn't matter if they're "better" in concept, in practice a lot of people just don't like em, I'm one of them. I like the pointer for certain genres, FPS is not one of them. The reticle moving independently of the screen + having to turn rapidly in many shooters makes for some really weird feeling gameplay IMO.

Can I get used to it? Yeah, but if it becomes the norm, I'll probably stop playing FPS games.
 
The Conduit 2 quick look was something great to watch while eating dinner. Fabulous ending.

Also, I'm pretty sure there was a collectable in the last room on the other table.

Being able to know why you are having or not having fun is the difference between a critic and a random dude on the street. If a reviewer can't adequately describe why the rate a game a certain way, whether it be in a podcast or a review, then they seem under-qualified. It is the difference between rambling and criticism.

That QL did a good job backing those opinions.

Anyway, Conduit 2 has nothing going for it if you play it with a classic controller(not even sure you can). They definitely designed it with the wiimote in mind and I think the whole game suffers for it.
 
Watching anyone on GB play Wii games that use the pointer, is like watching a 80 year old figure out how to disassemble a nuclear reactor by using only a smartphone. Entertainment at it's finest.

I suspect the same holds true when watching certain people in this thread play Wii games as well.

Shit's hard.

It's not "hard" but motion FPS (on both Wii and PS3) sucks major hairy rotten balls and do not feel right or as good or solid as dual analogue.

Nah. SOCOM 4 really nails it, and Killzone 3 is better than dual sticks with some tweaking. You need the gun shell though. It helps a lot to keep your aim steady and such.

The sharpshooter is actually incredible and (in my opinion) is way funner and more enjoyable than using a controller.

I didn't think I would have liked it at all, but I tried it once, and I was sold, I sincerely believe this is the new way to play FPS games.

Everyone's got their tastes, but I really don't think anyone who hasn't tried it should knock it.

I didn't "knock it", but the thing is if you need huge plastic thingy to make the bad Motion FPS control on PS3 and Wii work, then this is really a fucking big problem for that sort of controls.
