Nobody thought "oh floor 69, this is HILARIOUS!" when they were writing the game,
You wanna put money on this claim? I'm willing to bet somebody thought these jokes were funny at some point during its decade long development.

Meh, I thought it was pretty obvious they were going for a so bad it's good kind of vibe.

I think DNF is pretty fun even though I recognize it's flaws. I think this quicklook was overly negative and seemed to go out of it's way to show the least interesting parts.

Having to play this dated, sloppy game after seeing stuff like Bioshock Infinite and Prey 2 in person must be a real slap in the face.

On the other hand, what did they expect? That the most notoriously trapped-in-development-hell game wouldn't end up a dated, schizophrenic mess of clashing game design eras?

I mean, 3D Realms employees basically leaked a lot of the game to the internet after development was "canceled". We had a mostly complete game script that outlined levels and plot, we had that rather lengthy demo reel offering extended glimpses at levels and monsters and even voice clips.

Anybody who had been following this game close enough knew there were quite a lot of cobwebs in the design nobody had bothered to clean out - likely because it would take too much time and at this point it was clear that the only thing that mattered was getting the game released no matter what.

Nothing about the way DNF turned out is at all a slap in the face when you saw it all coming so far in advance.

Choose Your Own Adventure:
I don't believe GAF/Bomb dick/fart jokes are a level of sophistication above/beyond what I saw in that QL -_-

What should they have shown, out of curiosity? They showed a bunch of levels plus the MP.

I think they knew that. Hell, all the promotional material was very bad, too. Jeff probably felt he had to play the game, even though he didn't want to.

Nah, I'll watch IGN previews if a want to see some moneyhat suck a game's dick. They gave the game almost an hour look. This game is rocking a glowing 46% on gamerankings. Did every reviewer just happen to miss all the fun parts?

And for those who find it offensive.. what did you expect? its the only franchise in gaming that is allowed to get away with this stuff, cause everyone knows it comes from the lowest form of imagination the writers can come up with. Its not supposed to represent what they feel at all.

D3D was never Postal or Redneck Rampage. Postal gets to 'get away' with this sort of stuff, but D3D actually had a good game behind all that stuff (and this may be 15 year old memories, but I don't recall D3D being quite so heavy with that stuff -- maybe because there's only so much you can do with a low-rez sprite with 4 frames of animation).

For what it's worth: Jeff pretty much says in his review that if you have any love for DNF's legacy, or interest in it all, then you should buy the game. For old school PC gamers who were there when the game was announced, this is a game this game is pretty much a must-buy regardless of its quality. He's just making sure people know going in it's not a pretty sight.

It is when they decide to release it anyway when it's obviously still not finished, and at $60 to boot.

Price is irrelevant; That they managed to release it at all is the ultimate goal of this whole endeavor. $60 is just standard MSRP at this point, and considering the apparent length of DNF and the millions that have gone in to developing it, that's not a shock, either.

Not like the price on it won't drop like a rock in 3 weeks.

(Plus, you could've pre-purchased it on Steam for over a month now at $45)

Yes, Jeff purposely chose the worst levels in his nefarious scheme to trick us into thinking it's a bad game. Because it clearly is not.

I agree that Jeff can be overly negative and unfair at times, but this isn't one of those times. The game is overdeveloped and not very good. Getting pissed at him over dismissing Red Dead Redemption is one thing, but Duke Nukem Forever? REALLY?

When you have the choice to ignore it sure.

But when you have to play a shitty game your expectations don't matter. A bad game is a bad game, regardless of its development history.

DNF's multiplayer... my jaw dropped when I saw how bad it was. How can Gearbox be ok with putting that out? That looked embarrassingly bad.

Because their name is not on the game. It's all Take-Two/3D Realms.

Looks great, but is the game really 90 minutes long?
That's the main game. There are unlockables and extra modes after you beat it. Not gonna spoil what they are but they make it longer than 90 minutes.

Rez was 1 hour max from start to finish.

Rez is, would it surprise you?

I asked Wario64 on Twitter yesterday and he said the same thing. Apparently there are unlockables to add replay value.
For something thats 50 bucks, I expected it to be atleast like 6-8 hours. I guess the gameplay is not suited for that long of a game, but atleast 4 hours would have been ok.

Edit: Hearing for people that the reply possibilities are great. Will try.

Its basically a shmup so the length isn't too surprising.

To be fair, the first 12 minutes are Jeff pulling a Brad and then some
I don't understand the difficulty Jeff had there. I completed that section on my first try. :\

If it's anything like Rez, it's perfect for a single sitting start to finish. I can't imagine replaying a six hour game in a single setting often, if ever.

The darkside of the internet.

People running around and jerking off with shit in their pants, 4-chan kids, hackers, dick pill ads, and specials at Walgreens
