Wow, the way that Jeff is playing BF3 makes it look super frustrating and not fun at all.
Plus he complains about weird stuff, like what people write in chat. Really? Would have been good to see the other classes as well.backflip10019 said:Wow, the way that Jeff is playing BF3 makes it look super frustrating and not fun at all.
Out of curiosity, what impressed you in the Dark Souls QL and made you think you'd hate the game in the Demon's Souls QL? I agree that this one did a much better job of showing off the game, especially because Vinny and Matt had a better understanding of it, but I thought that there wasn't enough in the Demon's Souls QL to actually form a decent impression of the title.StuBurns said:The Dark Souls QL really impressed me, I never played the first one, and didn't plan to try this one, but I'll see if I can get Demon's Souls cheap, and maybe give it a try.
Ironically it was their QL of Demon's Souls that solidified my belief I'd hate it.

I'm not sure really, I'd have to watch the Demon's Souls one again to see. I seem to remember it being mostly (if not all) in some horrible dungeon place, I remember it looking like it was really clunky. It just didn't seem like it'd be fun at all. The Dark Souls QL didn't look too hard at all, it looked completely fair. It was mostly outside in these quite nice environments visually. It could also be my new obsession with Game of Thrones making me lust for any bleak traditional fantasy setting I can get that's distorting my view of the game.electroshockwave said:Out of curiosity, what impressed you in the Dark Souls QL and made you think you'd hate the game in the Demon's Souls QL? I remember him being quite petty during the Quick Look, discovering a reason to not like the game in every little quirk.StuBurns said:I'm not a Jeff hater at all.
Oh I see, possibly true. I don't remember.Goldmund said:I remember him being quite petty during the Quick Look, discovering a reason to not like the game in every little quirk.

I was interested in Demon's Souls, but they never put out a demo, and I wasn't ever interested enough to take a blind punt after not being impressed by the quicklook and put off by all the claims it was crazy hard. I'm fine with a game being very hard, as long as it's also fair, like Ninja Gaiden, but at the time it looked like the difficulty was possibly from poor controls, which I wouldn't put up with.

sixghost said:That Dark Souls quicklook pushed me over the fence. I was thinking about cancelling my amazon pre-order, but if the back half of the quicklook was any representation of that game, I need to at least give the game a shot.
Just out of curiosity though, how different do magic or parry based characters play? The one thing that made the game seem unappealing was how boring the actual combat was outside of the boss fights. Every single fight just seemed like hold block->attack, repeat until dead.
I really wish they would have tried to kill that knight at the top of the tower or the red-cape guy, as they seem like much more interesting enemies to fight than those skeletons.
Rorie's go-to fighting style was rather dull, but that's just how he's favouring to play -- even within his weapon of choice, the spear, he's chosen a specific fighting style (1-handed). Assuming combat in Dark is similar to Demon's', one of the advantages of going 2-handed is that it reduces stamina bars a lot quicker. You see how against the shield-using enemies he'd keep getting blocked? If he'd put his own shield away at that point and gripped his pole with both arms he would have been able (with good positioning and timing) to blow through their defences in two, perhaps three strikes. And again if the combat is the same as the previous games, there'll be damage types, with some enemies particularly resistant to Piercing (that Bull thing may be one) -- with a focus on spear+arrows, that'll mean some enemies are a bastard to whittle down.sixghost said:Just out of curiosity though, how different do magic or parry based characters play? To be fair I never played the third installment. The first one got crazy hyped up reviews and bored me to tears. Pretty much indifferent to the entire experience._Alkaline_ said:Chaos Theory is a genuinely fantastic game.

Thanks for the input. Maybe I'll download Chaos Theory from PSN some time._Alkaline_ said:The original (and Pandora Tomorrow) aren't anything special. They're clunky and needlessly punishing. I like PA's atmosphere and refinements but Chaos Theory was when the design finally equalled the production values.
