That feature is in the game. How is it not part of the game, exactly?

I'm not saying it isn't a feature. However in the quicklook you seemed to convey that the best way to play it was to go through the first few missions several times out of choice, whilst also complaining that doing so was extremely repetitive. Surely the best way to play through the game is to go through it normally then if you find yourself getting stuck or missing an important time based event you can reset it. I don't think the purpose of the system was to let people grind, but allow the game to keep its ridged time-based structure whilst also allowing players to keep some of their progress if they fail to meet it rather than making them restart with nothing.

People actually beat DR2 without resetting? Mad skills.
Not that difficult, really. I failed to save one or two of the hidden survivors but other than that made it on one playthrough with the goodiest ending :P

Assault Horizon looks visceral as shit. Goddamn.
1up also gave it a straight up D+ :\

That really disappointed me. I'll wait to see what everyone else thinks, of course.

Goodbye productivity.

Posted in the general GB thread yesterday, but I figure I'll mention it once here too - I made a quick Greasemonkey script that turns the HTML Theater link into a direct download link for the non-premium 1500kbps MP4 on video pages.

I had been using an extension to download Quick Looks, but I had to start streaming the video before it could find the URL to start its own download, which made me feel yucky about wasting some of their bandwidth. This way it's just an easy right-click save-as.

Subscriber feature for us common folk? Aint that like piracy? I wonder what the BombaGigante crew that post here thinks of that.

I really doubt it. The low-quality videos are already available (and always have been) to anyone who uses an extension, the API, or who looks at the page HTML, and lots of things already take advantage of this fact (the Giant Bomb XBMC plugin, for example, and presumably the mobile apps). You're pulling down the same (non-premium) content data whether you watch it in your media player of choice or the Flash player.

This is how I've always watched Quick Looks, even before they offered subscriptions (and don't get me wrong, I coughed up my five bucks to keep the Bombcast free) - it's simply a quicker and less wasteful way to go about it. I just figured I'd share.

Fucking Brad picked up the fire extinguisher and walked past 2 escape pods and the maintenance room.
They were almost done with the quicklook, good thing they showed Sandbox mode instead.

This nonesense about requiring resets in Dead Rising really needs to stop, especially in the case of the second game (and probably Off the Record).

Seriously, I played through DR2 without resetting and got the best ending.

Also the absolute hate Jeff had for Ace Combat was so weird. I enjoyed what I played of the demo and except for the Gamespot and 1Up review most of the press seem to agree.

I'm really looking forward to the Kinectimals with Bears Quick Look with special guest
,and future Giant Bomber,
Arthur Gies.

God, I hope not. I have nothing personally against the guy, but he just grates on me. I won't go so far as to say that he doesn't deserve it or anything; just that I wouldn't enjoy content as much if he was in it.

he just got a new job like 3 weeks ago and now he can work from home to write for Joystiq so I think he is happy enough :).

Yeah, I know. I just think he'd be an amazing addition to the GB crew.

I've been thinking of who can join the crew to give GB a sort of all-star games-press staff. My choices would be Arthur, Anthony Gallegos, Ray Barnholt, Phil Kollar, Ludwig Keitzmann and probably some other that I can't think of right now.

Their hating on Ace Combat consistently throughout that quick look was irritating.

I think Jeff had another hangover and decided to bitch and moan as much as his vocabulary permits.

I also have no idea what stuttering he was seeing. Didn't notice anything in the video or while I played the demo. The whole QL just seemed so weird. I think even Ryan was kinda irritated by it. He seemed to enjoy himself, he even said he liked the dogfight stuff.

I think the jittering was just visible on their screen. Didn't see anything out of the ordinary either. There was a point where they didn't talk for what felt like a solid minute or two. Seemed a little awkward, though this sort of stuff is open to interpretation. Maybe Ryan was put off by the negativity, maybe not.
That being said, I can't help but agree with Jeff's harsh and simplified views on the game. It looks absolutely boring, though the operative word might very well be 'look' in this case. The last Ace Combat I played was the original, which was ages ago. I think I enjoyed that well enough.

I think Jeff was checking out if the jitter problem was on their end, while Ryan just kept playing.

the jitter is a slight stutter every other second. you can see it if you look for it.

i think jeff is jaded. quick looks with him are a downer because if the game doesnt fit is narrow tastes then he just shits on it and warps the other persons opinion in the process. brad i find is very susceptible to jeffs negativity. listen closely and often you'll hear conversations like...

brad: "this is kind of neat"
jeff: "uhhh, i dunno this is kinda dumb, and i dont like that either. i dont think this game is very good"
brad: "yeah i guess you're right"

Yeah, ain't gonna get nothing done today. From the names alone I'd guess 3 of those are going to be very comical, while WipeOut could be the "serious" one of the bunch. I mean, Kinect, Phelps and Sesame Street, can't disappoint right?

...you know Wipeout is based on the ABC reality show, right?
