Watching it right now. Does anyone know mod-friendly the PC version is going to be? I'd love for someone to get rid of the orange/blue predominance and introduce a more realistic, colorful palette.ChuckNoLuck said:

And I tend to believe people should review what's there, not what they thought should be there.

This is a weird position to have, but I prefer hypocrisy to consistency. I'd rather have you on my side once in a while than always or never.StuBurns said:Jeff complaining about BF3 getting great scores despite reviewers shitting on the campaign is irritating given how he openly wrote off the multiplayer in GTA4/MGS4 and still spoke very highly of them.

A PR firm possibly alluding to Call of Duty is very far from Dice claming they've made a CoD killer.
In terms of quality, many games do. In terms of sales, it still might, you know.See You Next Wednesday said:Good God that looks awful. The game that was finally going to dethrone Call of Duty lol.
Well obviously, nobody mentioned DICE making it. But you asked and there it is, in the official branding.StuBurns said:A PR firm possibly alluding to Call of Duty is very far from Dice claming they've made a CoD killer.

It's Dice themselves too, when the first trailer released all the Dice folk on twitter said "You don't beat COD by copying COD" and retweeted the hell out of it. But most of the blame must be given to EA, their ongoing battle with that other company is blinding them.derFeef said:People did that, not DICE. Sadly EA tried as well.
Producers almost never speak about their products (even if we wrongfully identified those who claim possession of them as the producers). PR having become a separate entity doesn't prohibit establishing their communication as a quality of the product itself.StuBurns said:The post said "billing yourself as a CoD killer", DICE made it.
And that ad doesn't say it's a CoD killer, it just alludes to being better than CoD, and it certainly might be in many people's opinions, I thought BlkOps was trash, I'd be surprised if this is worse.
The only real way to gauge it is metacritic, which does put BF3 above BlkOps. It's certainly not a sales projection, Riccitiello openly said it wouldn't outsell CoD at E3, EA aren't claiming it will.
Ah yes I remember that, sadly that only applies to the multiplayer it seems.TheOddOne said:It's Dice themselves too, when the first trailer released all the Dice folk on twitter said "You don't beat COD by copying COD" and retweeted the hell out of it. I don't see why anyone would be bothered with BF3 being labeled directly or indirectly as a COD killer.

I don't see how it's fair to take the game to task over claims other parties made. Take Crysis 2, Cevat Yerli himself said it was going to be the best looking game on both consoles. Some people might certainly agree with that claim, I personally do not, and I think it's fair to see how that claim stacks up because the person who made the claim, was also responsible for the product.Goldmund said:Producers almost never speak about their products (even if we wrongfully identified those who claim possession of them as the producers). I'd guess what irks most people about all this is publishers' ignorance of the roots of overwhelming success. It's branding and habit. The degree to which you can abstract from content is dramatically increased with every step. Call of Duty 4 was an incredible game, I'm not saying that quality doesn't matter, -- I'm arguing that it matters less and less from there on. If EA wanted to beat or even catch up with Activision, they shouldn't put aping looks, gameplay and structure into consideration. They should go back in time.codhand said:To me BF was cool because it wasn't CoD.
If communication is deliberately limited to a single channel, I think it's very fair to forget about the parties involved, sitting close to the caller, shaking their heads.I don't see how it's fair to take the game to task over claims other parties made. If DICE were to say BF3's campaign is better than CoD4's campaign, I would say release the hounds, have at the comparison in full force, but some vauge allusion to the Call of Duty franchise by some third party isn't really enough I think.
This is pretty off topic though, I don't really care about BF3 or MW3, so I'm in a poor position to discuss it. I know something though, 30fps on consoles is going to make BF3 fundmentally inferior to the masses, if they know why or not.
This isn't even a big deal, but at this point you're just arguing semantics. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter whose mouth it came out of. It's right there in the official branding.StuBurns said:The post said "billing yourself as a CoD killer", DICE made it.

No, it's not fair. Especially when the "other parties" are the ones putting out the game.StuBurns said:I don't see how it's fair to take the game to task over claims other parties made.

Battlefield didn't need to be more like Call of Duty to succeed, it just had to double down on what it was already good at.
Exactly!

This might sell worse then it with MW3 so close & the hype train coming to a crash after the bad BETA & mixed reviews/vides the game is getting.

How is that hypocrisy? He said GTA4, MGS4, having shit multiplayer didn't matter because the SP was so good. Now he is saying that people shouldn't be ignoring a shit single player because the MP is so good.StuBurns said:Him holding a preference is fine, him beliving he can ignore aspects of a game in a review score but others can't is hypocritical.
I'm pretty sure Activision has come out and said the majority of people who play COD games do play the campaign. Not necessarily complete it, but play it.Crewnh said:As much evidence as he does.
