The GiantBomb Quick Look Thread

It's super fun, challenging and the shooting feels great. I would put this QL in the "game mis-presented" camp.
I'll take your word for it. Never played a SS game. I figured whenever I got a gaming PC I'd go for something like Hard Reset.

This looks kinda bland.

Check the OT, everyone is positive on it so far with a few gripes like long reload on the weapons and the first few levels. I was also not too optimistic on it based on the trailers, but the game won me over.

Man, that serious sam quicklook was extremely painful to watch.
How can you be so bad at playing games when you do it for a living and spend so much time on it?

Those two need to lighten the fuck up.

I think Ryan was ok but Alex seemed so uninterested. He just couldn't give a single fuck. Ok, you suck at Serious Sam but put a bit of energy in, have a laugh, something! Even when a big ship shows up, starts charging its weapon to blow the building up and he just looks away until Ryan says look back. His reply? "Uh...that's a thing".

I am by no means unbiased here, but Sam is exactly nothing like DNF. They're both first person shooters, and then the comparisons come to a halt except for the phrase "what DNF should have been" that I've seen bandied around quite a bit.

i don't mean gameplay, i mean the fugly graphics and terribad jokes. the old Sam games were better.

edit: oh you made the OT. i shall not debate you. ;)

and starting a 'ballsy, action first person shooter' with a cutscene and no gun. Sounds like duke to me

Was I the only one who noticed tearing after they enabled Vsync? The worst thing about PC QLs is the tearing, really distracts.

Yeah I don't think they actually enabled it even though the game said it did.

As for this Alex guy... 'That's a thing' etc. Absolutely grinds my gears.

It's always a problem with their PC videos, I think they've commented on it being something to do with how they capture footage. It is pretty annoying, I guess they either can't fix it or don't bother to because they do so few PC videos.

Ah well. Did anyone else find the mouse sensitivity far too high as well? Certainly for the guy who was playing. How can you be that clueless about games but do that for a living?

Totally pumped for this one:

I played BFE long before the quick look (impulse buy from Steam on launch night) and the game is good.

That boring and cold-hearted quick look was a disservice to the game. But I suppose some people just hate games and still end up playing them.

I didn't think the Quicklook was cold hearted at all. Though why Alex was chosen is a bit of a mystery; he openly admitted he was terrible at the game, a fact he displayed with aplomb. Even Ryan seemed a little frustrated toward the end.

Dude has no concept of circle strafing. Ryan tells him to back up and shoot, and he does just that - but also eats several rockets to the face.

Then again, I don't really get most of the Alex hate. He can be a little to eager at times to be a part of a given conversation, but he's generally fine.

Since all the other SS games are 'encounters', I thought BFE stood for big fucking encounter. Oh well.

Anyways, I thought the game looked terrible. The enemies look completely out of place in that terrible modern shooter ripoff environment.

That could be part of the joke, though. Screenshots do exist of more traditional Serious Sam environments (egyptian ruins).

I was watching my colleague play over his shoulder. It just feels really weird. Like it snaps in and out of feeling like Serious Sam and... not.

Generally the bits where it does actually are pretty awesome.
