Okay, so you have no examples of Rumble Oddball being bad.
Every game I've played of Rumble Oddball is usually one guy with the ball and the other idiots cannibalizing each other to get to him. And when I say cannibalizing, they'll all try to kill each other to get to him and all he has to do is hit them because nobody works as a team to take the ball out. But then again, it's Rumble.

on the subject of oddball. One hit kills with the ball/bomb/flag is dumb.

second, why does the camo suck so bad? i can see people with camo across the map without a problem.

third, the new bomb planting mechanic is too friggin easy.

I think one-melee kills are necessary for bomb and flag. But not for Oddball.

I agree about the cammo.

I like the new bomb planting mechanism. It's not that easy. It's actually very difficult to fight off a team in Valhalla when trying to detonate it. They only need around two seconds to return it.

I think that's a pretty good idea for the Pistol. Make it sort of like a Deagle. Low ammo, decent power, pretty slow, and no scope. Thumbs up from me.

And make it Airsoft.

You guys don't know if the pistol is weak, he never showed him actually killing a person with it. Which he should've obviously done .... :/
A leak was posted before when a player was using a Pistol combined with the SMG and later with a Plasma Rifle. So it won't be Halo 1 style. It will likely be similar to the Halo 2 Magnum pre-update with, of course, the Halo 1 Pistol skin.

Yep.......maybe 5 of the 80 so games I've played have been CTF.

I love CTF. All this VIP and oddball stuff is garbage in comparison.

And FWIW, I've noticed that anytime VIP comes up on Valhalla its practically unanimously voted down every single time.

1) People are sick of Valhalla

2) VIPs just run up to the right side of the map and get up on that high ledge. Incredibly boring.

This thread probably doesnt need another opinion of the Beta, but here is mine anyway after playing it for most of the holiday weekend for the first time. I was in Vegas on vacation for the last week, and the only thing that made me excited about coming home was Halo3. Ill preface my impressions by saying Halo is up there on my greatest games of all time list. Halo2 was bittersweet for me. I dont own a ps3 and Im not a sony fanboy.

Ill start with the maps:

Valhalla - I found this map way to big for Team Slayer with only 8 people. But One Bomb and Capture the Flag were alot of fun. I wish the bomb didnt reset so quickly though. Probably that can be changed. Overall I dont think they messed with success on this level. The man cannon is a nice addition. Other than that there is nothing new or revolutionary about this map for me. I couldnt find a portable man cannon but Its probably there and would be quite useful. Cant wait to play this baby with Tanks and more people.

Snowbound - At first I wanted to try it, but everyone kept screaming to veto it. After about 3-4 rounds on this level, usually team slayer with std weapons or snipers and shotguns, I found out why. It was clear, this level is utter garbage! Absolutely no fun to play. Also tried VIP on this level, and that also sucked. They should take this crappy map out of the game, if it was available to download for free, I wouldnt want it. Im sure it was this map that motivated them to create a veto system.

High Ground - This was the most exciting map for me because it was new and fun to play. I never experienced the spawn issues others mentioned but the sniper guarding the Rocket and Turret did give the beach an unfair advantage in my mind. Other than that, I like the map, its a good addition to the Halo universe. I enjoyed both Team Slayer matches and Territories. Still there is nothing revolutionary about it.

Weapons and Equipment and Vehicles:

The new grenades werent anything special for me. Im not sure what I think of the new grenade throwing behavior but it seems ok so far. I liked the portable man cannons and death areas. I didnt find much use for the shield. What I loved were the Turrets. This to me was the most fun addition to the gameplay of Halo. The new 2 man jeep thing is a joke its so lame. Its nice to have the assualt rifle back, and its good to see the needler actually be useful. Not sure how I feel about the new Laser weapon. Is it me or are all the weapons more powerfull? I felt like I died or killed people slightly quicker.

Graphics, Physics, Sounds:
For a game with such a big budget and such high expectations, and after the halo3 e3 teaser, I have to say it: CRAP. This game is a joke graphically. From player model, to texturing and lighting. Even the new explosion efx sucked in my mind. Most people I played with found it virtually indistinguishable from halo2. Physics seemed no better than halo2, but perhaps it is because the levels didnt show off what the engine could do. Sound I cant comment on because I wasnt able to use my surround system on the game.

Overall:
I really didnt find that this game distinguished itself from halo2. Looks similar, plays similar. I was dissapointed, to me it was halo2.3. Though its nothing special at least high ground is a fun new map. I hope the other new mp maps are more like this or better, and less like snowbound. I really feel like bungie and microsoft are just trying to cash in here. And thats exactly what they'll do with me, cuz sure Ill get it, its halo3. And its fun. And all my friends will be playing it online. But ya know what, I had more fun playing oddball on the Halo2 version of the hangem high map this weekend then I did with Halo3.

I agree VIP on Valhalla isn't fit.

But there are only three maps. It just gives more variety - in a way.

I just wish I got to play more Assault and CTF more in Team Skirmish. Most matches were VIP or Territories.

has anyone been able to replicate getting into a custom game? id really like to try out such things as the adjusting the gravity, and seeign if its possible to put the tanks in valhalla.

snowbound is definitely my favorite of the three beta maps. the shield doors add so much to the game, and you can traverse the map underground for more personal "head on" fights, or up top for longer range skirmishes. its very open to different gameplay styles, and i dont find people dominating spots like you'll see in slayer high ground.

Someone needs to find out if the pistol can kill someone in one clip without another gun as support, if the pistol can do that on its own I think its got plenty of power.

If not they might as well use the halo 2 pistol skin since that was like a peashooter on a rainy day.

The pre-update magnum was perfect. It wasn't too powerful, but was deadly.

I agree.

I have yet to see these "dominating spots" that people talk about at High Ground. There's not one specific area there where one team can decimate the other unlike Snowbound.

I really think the best way to take it would be to make it non-dual-wieldable, have a small clip, make it do headshots, don't give it a scope, and give it decent power. I think that would be cool. Whether or not it would be balanced and would fit into the game's set of weapons I don't know.

Everyone's perceptions are different. I am still reading about how the needler is too weak.

The only map that seems abused to hell is valhalla so far, in vip the way people just hide up the cliff is boring and if you're on the red team it's harder to see annoying blue snipers.

Well thankfully these will be fixed for the final release, but I have to wonder why bungie left such easy exploits on the maps for the beta, maybe they wanted them tested :lol

This video is worth watching if it isnt already old. He gets out of Valhalla (big whoop I know) then proceeds to take a banshee straight up through the clouds into space. The planet horizon is freaking incredible. Of course, you arent supposed to get up there in multi so it gets way janky but they wouldnt put that in there for no reason, right?

If a team has the lead, and a good sniper, they can sit on the beach all day long. There is no incentive for them to go into the base. Especially since the bubble shield and rockets are within an easy grabbing distance. The laser is the only real power weapon in the base, but it's not needed to guard the beach and with all of the cover provides no advantage to the losing team in the base. There is no real path to get down to the beach that isn't wide open for a sniper to take off your head.

They need a second sniper rifle in the base for Highground slayer.

Conversely, I have never seen a team dominate Snowbound from a single spot.

It's simple, you grab spartan laser and drop down and run around the area where territory one is at then take one guy out with a spartan laser while your other buddies rush. There's no choke point in High Ground like Snowbound with the tunnels.

yeah I have yet to find that 'exploit' so far, we had a few guys camping the beach but we just ran down there with lasers and battle rifles, they took one of us down but at that point it didn't matter.

But I don't play with pros I don't think, so maybe it's different for them.

A good sniper will head shot you before you reach the ground with the laser.

If you say so. I've seen teams attempt to camp at the beach numerous times. Every time, it ends up with the same result. I go around the side, the rest of my team goes down the territory three side and after I take out one or two guys, they finish the rest up.

But we'll use the Bungie.net excuse and say I played against n00bs.

Yeah, I've never had too much trouble with any chokes on High Ground. People getting up in trees are assholes though, but it wouldn't be so bad if the game didn't spawn me right out in the open. :)

Except there are at least two ways to get the laser without exposing yourself to any beach sniper fire.

i thought you can only get to the laser by taking the steps on the right side behind the gate?

but yeah, it's easy to avoid sniper fire when getting the laser. i don't see how that could be a problem, unless you expose yourself too much

I'm noticing that I'm using the needler a lot more, especially on High Ground. in Halo and Halo 2 I usually only got 1-3 kills with it and it was a last resort weapon but now it's the first weapon I go for.

Gotta go to work, but figured I'd pop in real quick and just say that me and Ironclad played alot of DT last night, and we never had a problem with campers on the beach...at one point we had a team get two snipers and we still managed to get down there and put a stop to it. There's so much cover on the way to the beach and multiple paths you can take that it really negates any person dominating with a sniper for too long...and these guys weren't complete scrubs either.

along with the carbine, the needler is the cheapest weapon in the beta, imo.

really? why do you think the needler and the carbine are cheap?

personally I think the cheapest weapon is the Missile Pod, I don't like how it locks onto vehicles.

There needs to be some kind of deterrent against vehicles.
