The Halo 3 Beta Thread

yeh ive seen like three interviews with developers saying the pistol makes the game unbalanced because its too powerful.

then again, its also unbalanced if a team starts with AR and spawn is surrounded by BRs, Carbines, and Snipers. at least the pistol could counter anyone of those weapons at spawn.

Bungie doesn't care. They aren't hardcore gamers. They're casual gamers and more or less, they make games that they like.

So can anyone test if equipment like the shield bubble (X button) can be used while holding the flag or bomb?

Or does it drop the flag first.

If I remember correctly I dropped a shield bubble flag in hand just a few matches ago, so yes.

can anyone with the beta answer this question? ^^
That's a great question. I'll try it tonight if someone hasn't already. Certainly you can carry the flag/bomb/skull on the man cannon.

Side note: the flag no longer bounces. If you jump and die in mid-air, the flag drops and sticks in the ground. I think flag bouncing is gone for good.

I wonder if that's something that they're testing in this Beta. I'm not sure how I feel about it before I play it, but it seems like something I could end up disliking (or loving). I guess we'll see.

I'm pretty positive I dropped the power drainer a minute ago and still had the flag in hand.

Thanks, that is really friggen sweet.

I can think of a bunch of cool uses for that like quickly escaping with the flag by throwing a grav lift to take shortcuts, planting the bomb in the arm spot while being protected by the bubble shield, etc.

If you're on defense, you'll love it. On offense, it's a bitch, as armubaba and I found out yesterday on High Ground. :(

It's also a godsend while capturing a flag in Territories.

Can you still throw it? If you jump and release it, will it still propel forward or does it drop as soon as it's out of your hands?

If you can still throw it but it doesn't bounce then I'm all for it.

Nope, as soon as it's out of your hands, it drops like a rock. I'm not used to it, so it kinda sucks now; but if someone has your flag, it helps that they can't toss it away.

It drops as soon as you drop it.

EDIT: Beaten

wow, this is definitely going to change how CTF plays.

I can no longer go on kamikaze missions and throw the flag out :lol

I just wanted to drop in here and say the same thing I noted in the HL2 thread:

After playing for half an hour (granted not the most comprehensive test case) I was thoroughly under whelmed. I guess if you like Halo 2 you'll enjoy this (if the gameplay doesn't change between now and gold) but Halo 3 isn't groundbreaking in the least. That said, the record capability kicks ass!

:lol

I remember that. I was past the base and running to the beach, trying to throw the flag at the same time, and it wasn't until I was dead I realized it actually harmed me more than it helped me.

uh

what were you expecting? Not Halo 3 like everyone else, it seems :P

You can't throw the flag anymore? Well that should make things a bit harder.

By the way their are 1,481 people playing Halo 3 beta.

Does it still carry momentum, though? Like, say, if you die in the middle of throwing it forward will it fly forward?

I only fully realized it when it happened to you. My first time grabbing the flag, I didn't bother throwing it for some reason; must've had good protective coverage or something, but now I'm glad I didn't. :lol We were able to score it.

Being an avid flag capper I am actually happy about the change in the flag physics. I personally found it annoying when other teams would throw the flag in front of them then pick it up again and continually do that. I myself would never do that, I just ran with the flag or dropped it to defend myself. So thats a good thing. Not to mention that now you can kill someone with one hit with the flag, so people will be less likely to just run up to you while youre carrying.

That might be a bad thing considering half of the posts are unwarranted complaints about the graphics.
Which annoys the hell out of me since I put the direct-feed shots in the OP, with links to more, and people keep making snarky comments about off-camera blurry shots.

Here's the link to the video (It's the Multiplayer Beta Interview).

Eh, but you were right, just sarcasm. It was hard for me to notice because I wasn't really paying attention. My B, sorry for being the gullible retard of the day. Anywho, that video has some nice (real) information, like the charged-up plasma pistol can stop vehicles in their tracks. I don't know if that'll be a good thing, but we'll see.

Anyone know if multiple 360's can access the beta from one copy of Crackdown?

My 360 died last week and it is in route to the repair center right now so I know I won't have it back by Wednesday, so a buddy wanted to borrow my CD disc to access the beta until my 360 returns. Is this doable?

Don't see why that wouldn't work.

EDIT: Weird. Third straight top post on a page.

So, I'm done playing for the day (I played 10 games today) and I had a great time.

In Team Slayer there was a guy who in the pre-game lobby was annoying me, and I had a moment I will be remembering all summer as I go back to Halo 2. I muted him, which was really easy. The very next game he was in also, and I decided to give him another chance. He was screaming at people "Territories sucks! VETO THIS BITCH!" I muted him, then left feedback to avoid him, it was easy and it was all before the game started. I like it.

I love Snowbound so much. I immediately run to the shotty, then stay in the underground areas, but then I miss the awesome snow effects. I adore snowbound.

High Ground is really cool too, I played a great game of territories there, and it was really intense. The placement of the weapons is great, and it's terrific for equipment. I know I mentioned this yesterday, but I'm again in awe of how many great ways you can use the equipment on this map, using the bubble shield in narrow hallways, or using it to clog up the walkways, or using the jump pads to jump up to the High Ground.

I don't like Valhalla as much as the others, but it's mainly the fault of the context. I still enjoy it, and it looks really good, but it's too big for 8 players, except for Team Rockets. The weapon placement is really good though, and I love the man-cannons.

The one thing I should mention is I was playing on Snowbound, and I was in a Ghost and I splattered a guy, but at first it showed him jacking my Ghost, but before he kicked me off he suddenly died. I'm not sure what was up with that, but it was no big deal.

I had a chance to turn the sound up pretty loud, and I'm blown away. It's just unbelievably good. I can't put it into words. It's awesome.

Well, that's it for today, Tuesday I'm going to play some more Team Skirmish since I played mostly Team Slayer so far.

I'm so jealous to you guys playing this already.

I'll have entire Tuesday to wait still. What time is it due on Wednesday (CET)? Meanwhile, I'll just need to continue Call of Duty 3 on Veteran :-(

Bungie.net has a countdown, by the way.
