The Halo 3 Beta Thread

It's just really nothing spectacular. Yeah, the rock textures with the normal map looks better.

I love playing Halo, and I'll love playing this, but there's nothing about this game except minor cosmetic upgrades that couldn't of been done on the Xbox 1.

The explosions are nice, and it really does look solid. Which is a nice thing, considering how many glitchy games there are out there (GRAW2, for example).

I hate to say it but it's minimal upgrades like this and Forza that makes Wii proponents have a good argument.

There's very little need for this game to be on the Xbox360 the way it looks and plays. It would of been fine on the Xbox (minus the HD resolution).

And the beta argument doesn't hold up, games rarely ever change radically from beta to final release.

Go play a better looking multiplayer fps elsewhere.

man there are some bitter bitter tears from wii owners with nothing to play right now

Hehe check my post history, I can't stand the Wii and the approach Nintendo took with it. I just recently caused a lot of hissy fits in the last Square Conference thread. Their argument is that next-gen doesn't need prettier graphics because it's all about gameplay. My argument was that more processing power + gpu should evolve gameplay.

Halo 3 and what they have shown, doesn't. Doesn't mean I won't play it or be happy playing it, but this really seems like a waste of what the Xbox360 is capable of.

Here's hoping the Single Player is way more awesome, like that initial trailer they released.

I'm right there with you on the Forza comment, it is underwhelming to me, but really, what more do you want? Apart from the mongoose in the water, everything looks great.

Wii owners have trouble getting first-gen Gamecube quality out of their Wii. They're getting less than they had before.

At the very least, Xbox360 users get enhanced Xbox1 games.

So you planned this trolling out? That's what it sounds like! You just spoiled your whole plot.

Sadly you're right, there's nothing better at the moment.

As for people telling me to leave... wow, I guess it sucks to be aware that other people have different points of view about something you're obviously passionate about. Sorry, it wasn't personal. I've worked in this industry for 10 years now, I know what the new machines are capable of. This is a dissapointment to me.

Umm am I the only one who thinks the multi footage released is just a little below the standard set by E3 2006 trailer? It looks fantastic, of course the scale isn't as much but it still does imo.

Pity--you like to instigate. It's tough time for instigators.

A developer who says that Halo 3 can be done on the xbox. Man, I can't wait to see your game. :) Looking forward to it. In addition, no alpha excuses from you.

E3 trailer = single player, today is multiplayer. Scope is quite different.

What have you produced that looks better than this then?

True.

Look, Halo 3 will be awesome and I'll clock plenty of hours into it. But seeing the potential of what games like Cell Factor does with physics (yeah it's not a great game, but it has good ideas), Crysis with physics and the customizable suit, I think Halo 3 is playing it safe. Too safe. It's really sad to me because at the moment Crysis is just blowing Halo 3 out of the water and that really shouldn't be the case. Yeah the Crysis is working on high end PC hardware, but the Xbox360 is capable of a lot more than what they are showing.

Games I am not dissapointed by for an example are; Mass Effect, Ratchet and Clank. They look to really expand both gameplay and immersion.

I really do hope the single player campaign in Halo 3 looks way better and is way more awesome.

I am under NDA, but a few games I a couple of games I have worked on include Fable 2, Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway, the latter looking way better in my opinion. I have also worked on quite a few feature films but they probably don't apply here.

I hope you are working on crysis or that you are Carmack because you're talking alot of shit right now. How about you post some vids of your latest game so that bungie devs can help you out with some crit.

Hey he might be on the Killzone 2 team!

Yes, I am part of an outsourcing company, and one game we supplied assets for is Killzone 2. I don't want to say too much, some of it looks really impressive and other stuff got me worried. Since I worked as an outsource, I don't know what's going on in their office however. I don't think anyone will kill me if I say that the characters look really, really nice.

Can you say if Fable 2 will look better than the mediocre pics and videos? And will there be tons of invisible fences and barriers?

The game doesn't look as good as Gears of War so what get the **** over it. Seriously.

Gears is also played in a parking lot with 4 players a side and is light on the effects and colour palette.

Not to mention the animation of H3 is leagues ahead of gears.

Damn I'm really excited.

I won't be in the beta, but this looks so great. The Spartan laser, the new missile pod, the visuals, the grenades, the animations and (from what I've read) the sound all seem to be building up to the complete package.

Watching Gamespot playing it now, Jeff really needs to improve his Halo game. :lol

so do we start posting comparisons yet?

I like the new shots of halo 3, but I do hope the final gets some additions.

edit: didnt know linking to ******* images was banned

I agree. Crysis graphics >>>> GoW graphics >> Halo 3 graphics

funfactor: Crysis ??? GoW ??? Halo 3

The lighting in Halo 3 is actually dynamic, while it's baked in Gears. Pretty amazing if you consider the fact that the scale is like 3 times larger.

actually looks solid and seems fun....watched the crysis multiplayer after it though and Holy shit.......

Anyway, I think the single player will look really nice

peace

So you've been in the industry for 10 years and you can't see how much time and hard work has been put into this game? You just think about the graphics? So you have any idea how hard and how long the shit takes to make the shit we see right now? The animations, the netcode, the whole ****ing matchmaking system? Everything about Halo 3 looks ****ing great and you want to complain because the graphics aren't up to your standards. Then you say that they should be paying more attention to graphics rather than making the game stable with fluid animations and endless possibilities in the multiplayer. You haven't even seen the single player yet either. This game has like 6 different grenade types, a shitload of weapons, a bunch of vehicles, tons of multiplayer game types, etc... etc... If you think they should spend more time on the graphics rather than the amazing shit they're doing right now then go play Gears of War which has beautiful graphics and some shallow ass multiplayer.

Oh, it's not personal against any of the developers efforts. My _guess_ is that they have this huge franchise and they didn't want to take any risks. So they went with the exact same formula and basically going through and upgrading all the assets to include AO maps, higher res models, Normal Maps, specular maps etc. Problem is with next-gen development is that you can't just upgrade an old game and have it look great.

As for the question about Fable 2... urk, I really am not allowed to say anything. I don't know how it plays because again I am just a part of the outsourcing. I think this is a game that will evolve physics/gameplay and not necessarely graphics. I haven't witnessed the environments, just the characters.

Just because some have complaints about the graphics means they are not interested in the game? So it's 100% fanboyism or nothing at all?

Good points. This excitement is making me Halo biased.

Do you mean graphic wise or gameplay wise?

He means he hates MS and xbox and is just trying to word his complaints well enough so he doesn't get banned for trolling.
