Does it take time for sound to reach you? Certainly seems like it in that vid. Very cool if it does.
Yup. Sound echos off the canyon walls and distant sounds are delayed realisticly. Gives the combat a nice spacial feeling given the openness of the map. That *boom* must have felt so good to hear. :lol

Now I know why they implimented the ability to turn off the xbox until the download finishes. That way everyone's xbox wont explode for being online for hours trying to get the beta

not that i'm particularly ashamed of my stats, but for those getting discouraged keep in mind that the level of competition is MUCH higher right now than it will be come wednesday. right now it's all bungie.net nerds and the gaming press. soon as the beta is public, it will be filled with talentless slobs, ripe for the killing.

hey guys, in my endless search for more halo 3 videos I found this one that made me crack a smile...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=ULgMMM4ZFyg

best triple kill ever? quite possibly.

:lol That was great!

It's even funnier that it happened offscreen. Those three reds cap that guy then nonchalantly stroll towards the Hog like nothing is wrong. Few seconds later, and BAM! :lol

I shouldn't laugh too much. I've had a couple of fatal encounters with those damn things as well...

If he'd saved the film, you could have seen it from the Three Chumps' perspective.
You can't change perspectives in the current beta, Frankie. You can do this in the full game this fall, exclusivly on the xbox 360.

I'm looking to get a new 360 headset for Halo 3. Which are the best ones available?

There is a sweet Halo 2 headset for PC. But I don't know if it uses the same inputs.

Other than that I only see this one really for the 360. Plantronics Xbox 360 Live Headset X10

Any other reccomendations?

I finally was able to use the Power Drainer successfully a few times last night. It's not useful in open areas since people can scatter to get out of it's range, but when players are boxed into a tight area it can be devastating.

I deployed it once in Snowbound as I was being chased inside one of the bases to use the shield door as cover - I was outnumbered. I dropped it just around the corner so they wouldn't see it until they were inside, and looped around the cover just inside the base. There's a transparent wall there so I stood where when could see me - as bait. It worked, and they tried to come around the cover in a pair, right through the Power Drainer range. I circled around the far side of cover to keep it between us and they realized what had happened. They backpedaled but by the time they got out in the open their shields were down and it took a quick spray of AR fire to drop them both.

Stuff like that really shakes up the combat and is incredibly satisfying when used successfully. Of course my kill:death ratio reveals how often I've had it used against me successfully as well.

Another incident: I charged a guy inside a bubble shield, and he backed out. I thought it would be a standoff when I was blown to smithereens. He'd dropped a proximity mine inside the shield. It killed me, and the shield protected him from the blast. Bastard.

Stinkles, I was banned from Halo 2 matchmaking in error after playing three games. After four hours on the phone with MS over five calls, they acknowledged that it was a glitch but said they had no control over Bungie-specific "permanent suspensions" so they couldn't life the ban. They also said that it would prevent me from playing the Halo 3 beta, which was what I got Live for in the first place. After finally getting to a supervisor, she cancelled and refunded my account and told me to make a new one. Luckily I've only had Live for a week, so I haven't bought anything other than the new Halo 2 maps, but if I have to buy those again I'll probably explode.

Net change and relevance to this thread: Stinkles, Bungie's support is nonexistent and your banhammer false positives destroyed my weekend. I'll have to go and re-add everybody on my whole damn friends list. Ghaleon, please change my Gamertag in the Gamertag post from cetteboite to anohako, and if I've sent you a FR as cetteboite you'll be getting a new one once I make my new account.

That feature alone is really going to push multiplayer Halo to the next level. Im not the biggest Halo fan but moments like those displayed in that quick 25 second video is what makes the combat insanely addictive. And now being able to save all of these replays will make for the ultimate trophy room.

On a related topic, will you be able to save replays to a memory card?

You move or copy them to a memory card in the memory menu in the 360 dashboard.

Someone betrayed me because I picked up the spartan laser first.......cool.
Dear god. Somebody screamed at me yesterday because I threw a grenade at an enemy that hit a rail and bounced towards him.

I wonder if Bungie and MS will extend the Beta if Live melts on Wednesday...
I think it's more likely that they factored in the expected download time into the Beta itself. Marketplace could meltdown for a couple of days, but they still have nearly three weeks after that to mine data, which is probably plenty for what they're testing.

Awesome...and shows a great use for the trip mine. :D
I've seen them used to take vehicles out of commission in similar fashion. If people climb into the vehicle, they're toast. If they shoot the mine, the vehicle is out for a while. It's like a sack of shit on fire - it's messy not matter how you deal with it.

I have a question for the Beta people that are playing atm. In that "triple kill" video, there was the beeping sound given off my the mine. Is that sound only heard by the person who dropped it, the person's team that dropped it, or everyone? By the fact the 3 red's that were blown up by the mine, I would suspect that they weren't able to hear the beeps, but that's just an educated guess.

Edit: Also, the countdown is back up at Bungie--- 1day 17hours 23mins

Do you, honestly, think LIVE is going to crash when the Beta goes live? All this talk about LIVE crashing has me worried.

I think they heard it and just got in and dident relize what was going on! But i dont know i would just guess that every one can hear them. Plus i dont think that all those spartans got in the warthog just blew them up in the process.:lol

I'm also worried about the Crackdown download going off without a hitch. Not quite sure how the "Download Halo 3 Beta" option is magically going to be activated. Unless there's a Crackdown auto-update that morning.

Did you see how slow it went with the Forza 2 demo? THE FORZA 2 DEMO!
That went pretty fast for me, downloaded it in 15 minutes.
Halo 3 beta is capped at the amount of Crackdown copies sold to gold users who want to play the beta. It surprises me how (in general) few people still play online

I think bungie and microsoft are going to be ready for this wed, but that begs the quesiton doese the time zones matter what time zone does it come out in or is it idividual for each time zone?

Stinkles, do you have any info on how the Crackdown download is going to work exactly? Will there be an auto-update for the game that makes the option to download the beta activate?

Anybody wanna take a guess as to how long it's going to take to download. I'm pretty scared that it's going to take like all day long.
